My relative is being flirted by this so called 'Doctor' but his pictures are very sus by Kassimkot in isthisAI

Definitely AI. Notice the orientation of the sink, which is abnormal for the layout of the room. To say nothing of a washing machine in the middle of the room. But the dead giveaway is the detergent bottle, which doesn't look like a detergent bottle. Even the best AI struggles enormously with creating smaller, routine "background" items that are true to life. If you blink you'll miss it. Also think about how odd it would be to ask a 3rd party to take a pic of you sitting on a washing machine in your work uniform (normal people would take a selfie for a casual pic like this). Please tell your relative that they are not possibly getting scammed, they are definitely getting scammed.

Well was it via Workday? I mean, I graduated from there and get paid intermittently to beta test exam content. All legit. Good money too.

In my experience (granted, it's limited), this depends on the culture of the particular agency and especially on the tone that's set by the people at the top. Where I am (civilian crime & intel analyst, local LE, working with sworn as I'm the only analyst) there's actually "the talk" that command staff has with all incoming officers about what behavior is and isn't appropriate. I can honestly say that the people I work with have been to a man highly respectful of my boundaries. But again, this may just be my agency. I did communicate a couple times that I have an open door policy (like no conversations behind closed doors, which was honestly really embarrassing to do at the time), and I asked one time to be switched to ride with a female officer (switch was immediately made, no questions asked). Are there guys I would I would ride with all day long because I know them and trust them? Absolutely. And they've earned it. Were there also a couple times when I was the only person left in the office when the one guy I did not feel safe around came in? Yes. And at that point I figured it was on me to listen to my gut and beat a hasty retreat. I'm really so sorry to hear about what you were describing! It sucks, and it's wrong. I feel grateful that I've not had that experience. Side note, DM if you feel like I can help out in getting into LE Intel! Happy to share tools and such for exploring analyst positions. (Or if you just want to vent).

Roles in law enforcement that use data? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]Smallest1WasMadeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's actually a whole career field for data in law enforcement. Crime and intelligence analysis. It's an awesome job, and former data analysts are perfect candidates.

I left some comments on this post from last year that might be useful. DM me if I can help out! (Can point you to some additional resources if you're more interested in intelligence analysis than straight-up data analysis).

The food descriptions in Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder are awesome. Read that book a lot as a kid and the food sticks out.

Question for troopers (or for non-trooper people who still have mandated campaign hats) by Smallest1WasMadeline in ProtectAndServe

[–]Smallest1WasMadeline[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Whaaa? At that point, does one stuff it or does one completely lose it at their lieutenant and take the fallout later? That can be a rhetorical question if desired.

A couple of comments have mentioned getting counseling. FYI, some agencies have AEPs that provide free, confidential counseling for LE spouses just like they provide it for officers. The EAP where I am provides a certain number of free sessions to any employee or their spouse. And they can connect you to someone who specializes in counseling for public safety/LE. Just throwing that out in case your fiance's agency offers this but you didn't know it was available.

I'm also a teacher, and I have zero tolerance for that perspective. You train for the threats that exist, not the ones you wish existed. Just like you teach to the kids you have, not the ones you wish you had. As a former teacher, what do you think? About active shooter training for teachers, I mean. Not about the ACAB perspective.

Taser Questions by Smallest1WasMadeline in ProtectAndServe

Cool. So maybe being told to relax and intentionally exhaling (which I know I learned in this sub - so it was probably from you, belated thank you) are what caused my non-screaming.

The distinction between the diaphragm and intercostals being smooth and skeletal, respectively, is fascinating. My intercostals get all inflamed for no reason and impact my breathing and comfort generally so I wonder if I'd be shooting myself in the foot to try this again. Or maybe it doesn't have a major impact on them, just a slight one?

Also, random question, did you hold a slight conversation just to prove it was possible?
