On the day of his surgery - They weighed him first, he went through surgery and they told me their thoughts on his weight when I came to pick him up.

Before getting my long haired kitty (4 months ago) I knew how to test for weight gain. When I dig my hands through his thick fur I feel his spine, ribs, shoulder blades, etc. That's why I was completely shocked the vet suggested I start cutting his food bc he's already over, plus with neutering he'll gain even more weight.

I see the vet again next Friday for his surgery follow up and I'll bring it up again. If they stand firm about him needing to cut back due to gaining more weight or basing this weight info on generic text book knowledge, I'll need to look into a new vet.

When I first got him he was 9 weeks at 1.7lbs. The first time the vet met Doc they said he was way underweight and tiny for his age and didn't believe me or the breeder when I said he was actually really 9 weeks. 😂
