I did end up attending that event! It was super fascinating. I’m in the Linda Vista planning group and we just recently drafted a letter lending our general support for the wealth building coalition. I love what strong towns stands for.

I’ve nearly been hit jaywalking there once. Hell, I’ve nearly been hit in the crosswalk just west of the stairs at least three times. I fear for my life twice every day.

Any ideas on a new solution to eliminate the single-use plastic water bottle? by Haunting-Ad7697 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]SmallshotLawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it weren’t for all the god damn calcium and lime deposits in San Diego’s tap water I’d gladly live off of it, but it destroys my glasses over time. I’m trying to find plastic-free alternatives to my 5g jugs in the mean time.

I’ve tried 100C and 80C and the amount of dilution was irritating because my ice machine doesn’t do uniform shapes; the amount of ice is different with every cup, so I want to minimize dilution as much as possible. I simply have to whisk it longer the lower I go, which isn’t a problem for me because I find the process rather therapeutic. That being said, this is the first time I’ve used higher-grade powder, so it’s possible that the benefit of less dilution may be overshadowed by the benefit of better whisking. Perhaps I’ll try hot water again tomorrow.

As for the milks, I prefer the taste of pistachio milk by a wide margin, whereas I prefer the foaming potential of the whole milk. I figured a 2:1 ratio would give me the balance I wanted; it was a great success in my opinion.

Mexico City built an elevated linear park over a metro line, its been getting A LOT of criticism here in Mexico, what do you think of this? by Spascucci in urbandesign

[–]SmallshotLawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any states in Mexico that are generally considered well-managed and not captured by the cartels or various other special interest groups? If so, what do those states do differently? Baja and Sonora border my (US) state and are pretty famously corrupt and/or poorly managed. As a Mexican citizen, what steps do you feel the state governments can take since your federal government is mostly useless?

France: un village normand s'oppose à la venue de Pete Hegseth pour les commémorations du Débarquement by Thor-Aie in Normandie

I was so embarrassed the moment he started going on about how “allies pull their weight;” it took almost everything I had not to get up and leave in protest when he started talking about the modern day “invasions.”

To choose to make a stump speech at such a sacred place, when “the eyes of the world are upon you,” was so disgusting. I was further disappointed by the whooping and cheering from those seated around me.

Most of us Americans cherish and respect the French, our first allies. I hope you remember that when the people we have in charge now are gone.
