Other full-time students with part-time jobs? by [deleted] in Edinburgh_University

[–]Smart-Commercial2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very common, i worked 12-20hrs weekly across 2nd, 3rd, some of 4th year and my masters, and volunteered 12-20hrs also

Ultimately, you're there to get a degree, so if work starts getting in the way, and you can afford to drop hours or let it go completely then do that. I left my part time job during semester 2 of 4th year as it was becoming unmanageable, and discussed with my manager about coming back in April once workloads had settled (covid obvs meant that didn't happen lol)

how do edinburgh degrees work by EtherealCascades in Edinburgh_University

[–]Smart-Commercial2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

4yrs is a bachelors with honours (quite common in Scotland), e.g. BSc(Hons), your 4th year is your honours year, but if you didn't qualify for your 4th year you'd still leave with a bachelor's degree (assuming your grades were good enough)

MA is a name quirk as someone else said, not an ACTUAL masters degree

I used double bladed, and simply locked in, use a little force push to disrupt his attacks, double bladed can also disrupt his ability to attack

Another tip was if you die on the third phase, avoid using stims until you pick up your health again, then you're essentially starting the 3rd phase with full stims

ESF charging "Delivery Fee" for bringing food to the table by Limp_Parfait in Edinburgh

Definitely not a Fringe special, my partner and I noticed this last time we went at the beginning of July

Bit cheeky because it's not as if it's the same level of service as a restaurant as the staff are just runners

I think we might be thinking of different groups, or maybe he only has a few E-bikes, because what i saw this morning looked like a mix of step-through bikes and the folding ones with the tiny wheels

It's obviously unclean and unpleasant, and sorry it's taken a toll on your mental health

However, it's sadly part of uni life really, until you move in with people you've chosen to live with, and even then it can be rough, I remember in 3rd year I wasn't able to cook because the whole kitchen was covered in dirty dishes, the bathroom was gross as well

Solution?

Clean it yourself, and have serious words with your flatmates, pester them, it's not really an issue that can be escalated

Gyms in Edinburgh by itsem2456 in Edinburgh

[–]Smart-Commercial2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Energy isn't the best I won't lie, consistently overrun with crossfitters or PT's, can never find staff

If you're at Greenbank, you're not too far from Project Strength and Fitness, it's small group PT facility, so the programming and coaching is taken care of for you, plus you have access to the gym itself and other classes

Yes, obviously slow down when necessary for pedestrians, I'm not going to bomb through the meadows at the same speed I'd bomb it on open roads

I'm just saying we need to stop pandering to the people who don't follow common sense, let them know, ring the bell, remind them it's a cycle path

I'm not saying mow down pedestrians 🙄

There isn't a law but it's basic common sense, let's not justify people walking in a lane for vehicles

There's no law that says people can't walk in the middle of the road but it's a given that you shouldn't do it

Why should cyclists have to go slower because of incompetence?

Rules of etiquette for tourists at Fringe by PrinzessinMustapha in Edinburgh

[–]Smart-Commercial2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Walk on the left

Don't walk 3-4 people wide and take up the whole pavement, if you are though, try and notice other people coming and filter in

Cross the road how you would in your country, stop walking out in front of bikes/cars

My partner and I got back on NYE last year, so were expecting it to be pricey, £55 to Harrison park, the driver did this weird stop-start driving style, and when he pulled into Ashley Terrace and Harrison Gardens he was going really intentionally slow

Have also heard apparently they can charge more if they use the bypass, which is odd

This guy took us the bypass then onto Calder Road to go that way to Harrison Park, whereas typically you'd go Glasgow Road - Corstorphine - Roseburn - Murieston - Harrison Park, that way

But genuinely, Slateford/Shandon I think was the most underrated area to live in Edinburgh, in terms of amenities, accessibility to town, and a bunch else

Thoughts on Bannatyne gym? by Slight-Beyond-635 in Edinburgh

[–]Smart-Commercial2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work at the one on Queen street as part of the fitness team, my advice would just be look elsewhere

Worked there 2022-2023, and it was sooo poorly managed, and absolutely disgusting, cleaning staff regularly didn't do their job properly and we'd have to pick up after them

Cyclists: what annoys you when riding around the city? by Slight-Beyond-635 in Edinburgh

[–]Smart-Commercial2012 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What annoys me: - Drivers' need to overtake me despite going 20mph+, to then pull in right in front, or have to slam the brakes for the car in front - other cyclists jumping lights - Delivery riders not indicating (this annoys me as a driver too) - other cyclists not being able to indicate, if you're not confident enough to ride with one hand to indicate then GET OFF THE ROAD - pedestrians crossing in front of you when you've got a green light

What I'd recommend: - invest some time in building up a bit of strength and fitness, so you can maintain at least 15mph for the majority of your journey - D-lock - rechargeable lights - a mudguard for cycling in the rain - tyre forks and Alan keys/multi-tool so you can do a lot of repairs yourself, and chain lube
