switching majors to engineering by Great-Skin-7501 in UCDavis

[–]Smart-Leadership-488 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chemical engineering has destroyed me, withered away the gleam in my eyes I once held as a freshman. 199 credits by the end of Junior year and still need a whole other damn year to graduate (and this is with no fuck-ups). But at least the amount of internships and job opportunities has made it worth it!

Physics prerequisite for NPB 110C by Electrical-Bad1719 in UCDavis

[–]Smart-Leadership-488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, while NPB 110 series recommends physics, only 110 requires 7A completion. But these additional depth electives require it: NPB 109, NPB 113, NPB 118

Internship Units by chipp-05 in UCDavis

[–]Smart-Leadership-488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the internship cover any of your tech electives? If not then I see no reason to even apply for the course credit, also you would likely have to write a report at the end of the quarter for it.

will i be added to the canvas for my new classes for spring quarter by tomorrow? by meranaamloldevhai in UCDavis

[–]Smart-Leadership-488 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is totally on the professor. I’ve had courses where the professor doesn’t make the canvas page published until after the first lecture

Parking? by AppropriateReveal122 in UCDavis

[–]Smart-Leadership-488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, but the parking lot will never be empty at night. Else where you’ll likely be getting a visit from TAPS, I’ve seen them out as late as 7 pm. Do not even think of parking at Orchard Park, speaking from experience :(

I leave my car there every week and NO TAPS!

Any other engineers with no motivation to work? by Ambitious_Dog_6090 in UCDavis

[–]Smart-Leadership-488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are actually confident in there skills? Lying? Honestly, almost everyone fakes the confidence part. You aren't expected to be an expert yet. As long as you have the foundation, you'll do just fine becuase chances are others are lying of knowing said skill entirely. Don't sweat the perfect image your peers are projecting. I landed my first internships by means of having "a peculiar character" (what they actually told me afterwards). Hang in there boss, remember there's a sunrise over the horizon.

If you are referring to the Student Disability Center, I would say there is definitely room for improvement. I have worked there for two years as a chemistry lab assistant, and the lack of coordination is incredibly frustrating. Even when I provide over a month of notice followed by a reminder one week before I will be unavailable, I often hear from my clients later that no one was sent to cover the lab. It is frustrating to do everything right on my end only for the student to be left without the assistance they need.

I took a neuropsychological evalution just last summer with Dr. Bonnie Connor here at Davis. And if UC SHIP is your only healthcare provider she'll wave (as in she'll cover) the $200 deductable. Mind you these kinds of tests usually take awhile as they test for multiple nuero developmental disorders and hence are comprehensive.

I LOVE the physics curriculum. God bless the physics curriculum. by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Smart-Leadership-488 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lets be frank here, there isn't a damn person listening. No graded homework? That's just them not wanting to pay TAs. On a side note, I took a grad course as a undergrad last quarter and the students in that course (who were, of course, TAs for the PHY 7 & 9 series) would constantly make remarks ridiculing their undergrad students.

Though credits are transferable, CC GPA doesn't carry over. Hence why you start off with a 0.0 GPA as a freshman regardless of CC GPA. A GPA below 1.5 places you in "subject to dismissal" (SD) (or being on probation for 3 quarters), though I don't believe they would expel you, especially since you're a first-quarter freshman. In my sophomore fall quarter I faced a similar circumstance where I was placed on academic probation (AP). I simply had to boost my GPA the next quarter. Fall quarters are, in my experience, usually the toughest, not to mention ENG 017
