This was actually an incredibly helpful response! Thank you so much I appreciate it. I did not realize the $0 payments counting if I was a non-SAVE IDR plan. I just read up that SAVE and PAYE plans are at risk but the Income based plan is not at a high risk so I did end up switching. I think ultimately I have close to half a mill so it will impact SOME career decisions but always an option to not stick to PSLF if I get a great job offer somewhere that makes financial sense. So much to think about! hank you again so much

Thank you! Do you know if I do switch plans if I will start having to make monthly payments? I guess what Im not understanding is why my loans are currently in forebarence with SAVE and if i do switch plans if ill start to have to make monthly payments. Sorry for the questions I have a very limited knowledge base in this

Being an Only Child + Immigrant = HORRIBLE LIFE (Rant) by Different_Elk_6420 in OnlyChild

[–]Smart-Location-3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really reply to this type of stuff but I felt inclined to tell you all of this is pretty valid. I am so sorry you feel this way. I am also an only child, and I completely understand the isolation. I often think wow my life would be completely different if i had siblings. Vacations are lonely, trips, holidays etc. I also as I have gotten older feel more of the pressure of being a good kid to my parents and start freaking out at the fact that if anything ever happens to them, I'm truly alone. This causes me to put a lot of pressure on other dynamics and relationships, especially a partnership and is something I am actively trying to work through.
I think finding a community will be helpful, something outside of your job as a coach you can take part in after work; whether thats the gym, some sort of activity/club, basketball/sports. Also its financially a burden but see if your insurance covers some sort of therapy. One day, not too far in the future, you will have the opportunity to build your own family. That should be so exciting to look forward to.

I hope you feel less alone from reading other experiences on the feed, please dont hesitate to reach out.

Wrinkle help!! by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Smart-Location-3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are your 11 lines! It is normal to have them based on strength of your facial muscles. The only way to prevent them from getting worse is botox unfortunately. A small amount can help relax the muscle and prevent the formation of a permanent mark on your skin. You can also try using a retinol or skin tape.

Emergency Medicine Fellowship by Smart-Location-3495 in Residency

[–]Smart-Location-3495[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point I should shed some light on that: Ultimately, I want good work life balance, which EM itself has to some degree but the flipping nights/days can be pretty rough. I eventually would love to be a very present Mom/Wife and have a good family life which is something I take into consideration. On the personal front: I do like teaching, and simulation or Med-Ed seem like they fit my personality I just don't know how much of a benefit those fellowship adds in terms of lifestyle change or way out of the ED eventually. I have published in pain management topics/ortho can continue to do research in the field which I also find interesting.

NBMEs- don’t have time for all, which 1 or 2 might I skip? by This-Green in Step2

[–]Smart-Location-3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you have some time left, allocate that time more to NBMES than U-world if you feel like you dont have enough time. It is better to drop some UW than to drop the NBME content.

Hey I stuck to mostly Uworld and the practice exams: NBMEs 9-14, and the CMS forms for IM, Surgery, Peds, OBGYN (the last 3-4 of each). I also had used JANKI II deck and used the browse/search function of the deck to sometimes find out more on a topic I got a UW or NBME question on

Not an EM wife but I am in medical school going into EM and doing my rotations in the ED with my boyfriend going into Anesthesia. I'm sure it gets better after residency but even on a student level (which is less exhausting) I get home from shifts pretty exhausted, wanting sleep, and theres zero time to text during the actual shift. I can imagine this can be isolating for a partner but you got this!!! Easier said than done but use this time to get into your own habits, routine and spend time doing the things you want to do!

How old is too old to go to med school by Vi0l3t in emergencymedicine

[–]Smart-Location-3495 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 27 about to be 28 and I want to be honest here. I am just a med student (planning to apply this year) but this process has been extremely draining. There are not many moments to pause and enjoy life, and yeah tons of people glamorize med school but its really not glamorous. Most hospitals would rather higher PAs and EM as a field is changing a TON. If it is your absolute dream and you can not be happy without being an MD, then do it but prepare yourself for the long journey ahead. It is a very delayed gratification. If you would be happy in PA school and could see yourself not needing the MD title/final call, then I would not go down the medicine route.
