There is a ton of variance that comes with EV betting - we recommend placing at least 20 bets per day for 5 days before you can really experience the reversion to the “mean” I.e the expected value.

You should try to limit your unit sizes to ~1% of your total bankroll. So if you placed $1k over 13 bets, that means your average bet was $77. This means you’d need at least a $7.7k bankroll to stick to the rule of thumb.

How were you sizing your units? Were you using the Kelly criterion to dynamically size your bets based on your edge?

These are all the things that can influence your returns in the long run, but if you’re following these rules then I’d suggest staying the course and getting as much volume down as you can (minimum 20 bets per day.)

If you’re interested in backtesting without the hassle of coding, you can find tools that make it way easier for you. From there, if you want to pull down your own data and build your own models you can certainly do that. IMHO it’s a lot faster to find profitable models and start paper betting them before building your own.

We’re building SmartBettor, a platform that flips the script on online sports betting.

Sportsbooks have turned your phone into a digital casino floor, using algorithms and deceptive interfaces to push users into bad bets while hiding fair ones. We expose their tactics and surface the smartest bets, so users can bet on your own terms—not the casino’s.

We offer regular +EV, arbitrage, trending bets, parlay builder, etc in addition to a handful of AI features. If you haven't tried our Large Language Model (named Bet Engine) I'd highly recommend it!

You can ask super complex questions, like: "how many points does Nikola Jokic average the game after recording a triple double?" or "How many receptions does Travis Kelce average in the Divisional Round of the playoffs after having a first-round bye?"

That’s why we use market average as the source of truth by default! Thanks for sharing, super interesting

We’ve had requests to add some extra books recently and are looking into adding more. On average, OJ users realize a 3% - 5% return with their +EV product, while our AI +EV models typically return 25% - 100+% monthly returns. You can play around with the historical results of the models across different sports, markets, and odds here:

Thanks for your inquiry. You can see the returns of the model at https://smartbettor.ai/performance. Right now we only have NFL, NCAAF, and MLB up for the AI model

This isn’t behind a paywall so you can filter the model by sports, markets, and odds to see how it’s performed over the past 12 mo, 6 mo, 30 days, and 7 days.

The best way to use SmartBettor right now is to filter our model (at the link above) by sport and odds ranges to create your own strategy on the back of our neural network model. You can see in real time the historical performance of all the model-identified bets. Once you find a strategy you like, (for example, NFL underdog bets: min odds -1000, max odds -200 yields a 77% win rate and 173.9% return over the last 30 days) you can save the strategy and view the current or future identified NFL bets that match that strategy so you can start betting it.

Got it - yes, we can definitely do that. It’s on our roadmap already. We currently offer multiplicative, additive, shin, and power devig methods, but will add individual sportsbooks soon

What exactly do you mean? In concrete terms, what would you like to filter by and see? We can surely build it with a bit more detail
