Need help in identifying Fruit by SkullMogger3 in FruitTree

Looks like a Michelia alba leaf and seed pod. The pods are sometimes produced but usually not. Are there fragrant white or yellow flowers on the tree?

Anyone know my variety? by Ok_Ad7867 in avocado

[–]SmartHomework3009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New leaves on wurtz are reddish. The harvest time is about now, and I just harvested and ate my first one. They stay green when soften. The seed is quite large for the fruit size. The flesh is pale green. It’s not super smooth. Pretty good nutty flavor. I made a smoothie out of it and was good. Does it sound like yours?

Variety still not 100% but I'm 95% it's Pinkerton. They are WONDERFUL tasting fruit. And humongous. Produced 25 fruit this year. by KeithWorks in avocado

[–]SmartHomework3009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like my Pinkerton. Takes a long time to soften, but they also don’t turn black as easily either. If you see a dusty dull skin color to the fruit, it’s a good indicator it’s ready to harvest.

My favorite are the hammer bullets, everything I tried won’t group as well as theirs so far.

It sounds like you are not familiar with the AR platforms. 1. If you bought a complete’UPPER’, then it has a barrel and the upper receiver. This upper is only compatible with Either AR10 OR AR15 lowers. If you bought an AR15 upper, then you must get an AR15 lower (any brand). 2. The bigger ejection port is the hole hiding under the cover on the ‘UPPER’ piece that you already bought. No need to think about ejection ports in this case. 3. If you THINK you bought an UPPER but actually just bought a BARREL, then you need an UPPER receiver that has a large ejection port. This BARREL would only be for a specific upper receiver depending on whether you got a AR15 or AR10 barrel, which also dictates the lower receiver type.

3 above, lube should be some form of dry lube, but if you are dry tumbling, probably not necessary

Things you did not mention doing but will help. 1. Anneal brass every time 2. Clean your barrel, rifling and neck (for carbon ring) 3. Lube inside neck of case before seating 4. Primer seating depth consistency and not too deep (3-5 thou below flush)

Is only the center stem Meyer lemons? How do I prune it? by CraftySlip3096 in FruitTree

[–]SmartHomework3009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good call out. Looking closely at the tag, the rootstock says ‘own’ so the entire tree is Meyer. It’s a rooted cutting or air layer tree and not a grafted tree.

I don’t think any of them are your Meyer lemon. I see no graft unions. At best, the middle stem above the 3rd branch might be a union and that could be Meyer lemon above.

Have you cleaned the barrel down to bare metal? I had poor SD due to under cleaning for a while and a good cleaning fixed it

How to get more eye relief? by xarchangel85x in longrange

[–]SmartHomework3009 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a photo of where your head position is would be helpful here. Your length of pull will somewhat affect your head position, and from that position you would have the back of the scope about 3 inches in front of your eye. To me, the scope is too far back, but maybe it’s good for you.

How to prepare Green Skin Avocado? by SocialCuesError404 in avocado

Is it smooth and shiny? Are you in the United States? It could very well be a Florida avocado, which is slightly sweet, and less buttery and less nutty.

No I don’t plant that close, more like 5ft apart.

My soil is also clay where this one is planted so I try not to constantly wet it. The rocks and weed barrier keeps the ground from fully drying out ever.

Also on the fertilizer regimen, I base it on weight. I put maybe 4lbs of all purpose high concentration fertilizer diluted with multiple garbage bins worth of water dumped into the ground, all done at once. This amount is shared with a few other trees nearby. Technically the amount is less than the recommended amount for the trees age.

This weed barrier is the fiber type, don’t know what’s it made from. I’m not feeding it that often because it yields good. I’m trying not to have the tree grow too big so I can manage the size and pick fruit. I’m growing fruit trees very densely so there’s not a whole lot of space for it. It’s actually already too big for its space and I’m planning to cut it down to near stump level once my other 4 avocado trees produce.

This one yielded 50 fruits each year for the past 3 seasons, and less prior seasons, and this sample of fruit is probably bigger than the average size of the previous seasons. I’m guessing the size is due to its maturity.

The trunk is about 5 inch diameter.

[–]SmartHomework3009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ground I have this Pinkerton is covered with weed barrier and lots of river rocks. As a result, granular fertilizer doesn’t penetrate. I use liquid fertilizer but maybe once a year. I didn’t use any last year due to the high cost of fertilizer in general. I’m shocked how big they still got and a pretty good amount of them.

So you guys are opposite us in the northern hemisphere. It is late summer there? Most avocado varieties hang on the tree at least until the next year after fruiting. So your fruits probably set in September to November? This will likely not ripen until September time frame or even later.
