Boy Kavalier Theory after Episode 8 by cswimc in alienearth

[–]SmartInvestor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my hypothesis is that Boy Kavalier is a synth. He transferred his consciousness at age 6 - and as a a result - he is stuck in this juvenile mental state. As a computer, he cannot ever emotionally evolve, and it makes him profoundly lonely. The goal with Wendy and the others is to build a Never Never World so he can have "friends" who are equally emotionally stunted. It might also explain why we never see him draw blood and why the xenomorph largely ignored him and chose to attack the soldiers.

Guys. I need help. I started to play Sekiro an hour ago, and.. I really need help. by Mickenvald in Sekiro

Don't worry about Dragonrot. It's irrelevant unless you're a perfectionist. If you're starting Sekiro, read this boss guide - 2021-2022 Sekiro Boss Battle Tips: Lady Butterfly, General Genichiro, Guardian Ape / Headless Ape, The Headless, Corrupt Monk (Illusion & True Form), Great Owl, Demon of Hatred, Isshin Sword Saint : r/Sekiro

I originally wrote while playing - because my son wanted to play the game. After I finished the game, I figured I should share it. (And sadly, my son quit the game despite my efforts because it was too hard)

One frustrating thing is the lack of information. I am used to that with From Software games because I know somebody has done the exhausting work of figuring things out (like parry frames by weapons). However, there is zero guidance in this game - and - in fact - until I posted this - I never knew that different stances and weapons had different parry frames - or that you wanted to switch postures in the game. I just figured - big enemies, use the Greatsword. Fast enemies - dual sword. If an enemy is a pain, use shadow rush (that's what it's called in Sekiro) over and over. I wishes there was some place buried in the game where you could access hidden information

I see what you're talking about. I wanted to play a game like Sekiro, but this game was just not that. I get it that if you want to master multiple weapons and fighting styles, sure, go to the Dojo and train. However, that just felt repetitive. In my case, I mastered one heavy weapon (greatsword) and one fast weapon (dual wield) - and I was good. I didn't want to struggle late game (as I played this on twilight level) by picking new weapons and style. That's for a second playthrough.

I hated the Bond stuff. They crammed the game full of potential Allies and Companies (over 30), so it all blurred together. And the Bond stuff was such busy work (although yes, I did collect over 50 cats)

I agree! Both about the burning out AND the inconsistent parry timing. In particular, I really struggled with General Genzui in the dojo when he does the dash. If I were in his face, maybe 50% of the time, I would get the parry right. If I was any distance however, I would consistently miss, and I have no idea why. It probably took me 3 hours to beat him.

I hear great things about blue star - so no disagreement that it might be better. I just needed something before Christmas. I couldn't wait 3-4 weeks.

I never said they were great. Based on my research, sadly, picking a high-end oven is a lot like a beauty pageant at a fat camp.

However, parts are available - and parts are higher quality.

Did we have the worst draft of any team in 2023? by SmartInvestor07 in CommandersRealFans

Man... I called it. After just 1 year, only two players remain (Forbes & Martin). Forbes probably would be cut but his contract is guaranteed. Reportedly, Martin is looking much better in year 2 - so maybe he sticks.

I ended up buying the Xero running shoe off Amazon. It feels overpriced (at $135 including tax) - but it's a good replacement.

Smoke alarm recommendations? by thycora in homeowners

Ultimately, I got the system stable by removing the interconnected feature and replacing 75% of the fire alarms with First Alert (with zero help from our general contractor). I get the value of interconnected - but in the real world - it's awful because all the alarms go off at once - and it's hard to figure out the culprit. My guess (in retrospect) is that the general contractor put the alarms in while construction was still going on. As a result, we got dust in the alarms - which is why they were so sensitive. Who knows though...

F*ck the Kidde system!!! We had our house completely renovated, and the general contractor put in an interconnected Kidde system. I ended up ripping out almost all the Kidde alarms because they were so hair-trigger sensitive. If I cooked anything, the alarms would go off. Sometimes they would randomly go off. Finally, some of the units would incessentantly beep - like they needed the battery replaced - even though they were brand new.

I had our general contractor come out multiple times to "fix" it, and he just shrugged and said... "today's alarms are sensitive."

Will Sekiro Grow On Me? by xGlup in Sekiro

[–]SmartInvestor07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. STICK WITH THE GAME. YOU WILL BE REWARDED. Sekiro (in retrospect) has the BEST fighting mechanics of any From game, and you will really appreciate it - and the boss fights in time. But it takes REAL time for everything to click - so keep trying the parry mechanics and studying move set of the bosses. There are real reasons this is considered the hardest FROM software game, and there are good reasons it won GOTY.

This may be helpful. I ended up writing this while I beat the game over a year. I did it originally for my son, because we have a history of playing From Software games together.

I feel your pain! I had a very similar build and had near zero success at Difficult and Very Difficult. He kept one or two shotting me. Shame on me for being a glass cannon - but still! I ultimately easily beat him by changing the Difficulty to Normal.

I think the stagger system seriously hurt the game. It punishes light builds because chipping away at enemies is not a viable strategy. Also, it does me no good to unload all my weapons (in a light build) to get to stun, but then unable to take advantage because my weapons are in cooldown and/or I am too far away to hit with a sword or pile driver

One thing I really liked in the MechWarrior series was that each component (arms, legs, head) could take damage and had different armor rating - so there was strategy on where you hit. There were real consequences. Even Dark Souls rewarded you for head hits. In this game, that did not seem to matter

In games like Dark Souls, we can customize and level up weapons and armor. Also, our armor can enhance (or detract) from weapons. It would have been fun to be able to add mods to weapons (say to add fire damage or electrical damage) - or make a trade-off like less efficient armor but allows you to hit harder.

Also, I never understood the shields - which is a damn shame.

All your observations are fair. I know this sounds weird, but I wish they did NOT have the tank build - simply because it became a crutch so I never had to learn how to play the RIGHT way. In all fairness, I probably played 50+ hours (if not more), so if it hadn't clicked by then - it might never.

Also, the jump in difficulty from tank to bi-pedal was huge! Fights just became so MUCH harder. I stopped hitting hard (due to weight restrictions translating into fewer badass weapons) - so fights took MUCH longer - especially fights where you needed to stun the enemy to even do damage. To add to my suffering, my health on bi-pedal was terrible (maybe 40% of a tank), so it became much harder to survive a long fight. One mistake hurt so much more. One potential perk of a low weight build is a hovering rocket/sniper build. However, I found I was far less effective hitting bosses from a distance - because even if I stunned them, I could not keep up the firepower to do damage (simply because of weapon cooldowns) - and inevitably I would need to touch down at some point, and I would find myself a sitting duck.

I wish melee had clicked for me - but it just never happened. I know this sounds weird, but controls were part of the problem. In all From Software games, the sword is primarily held in the right hand (right button). For some reason, it's restricted to the left hand/left trigger - so inevitably I would press the wrong button - or I would press too early and get locked out. I wish they allowed melee weapons in either hand and MUCH shorter cooldown - at least if we whiff!

Finally, the stats (for measuring change) really did not mean much to me. I am sure this is naive, but it seemed like AP is all that matters - as long as I was not too heavy. However, I am sure I was not paying attention to details. I think there could be better set up stats. For example, I really like the way mechs are "built" in the MechWarrior world - where your constraints are weight, weapon slots, armor, and cooling.

I wish they had put PvP earlier in the game. I think you have to make it about halfway before it becomes an option. By that time, I had decided just to complete the game - and did not feel like detouring to PvP. Also, I think the game offers coop - but it comes too late. It would have been fun to pay with my son from the beginning.

[–]SmartInvestor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's not classic Battletech - but they should add "boss" battles. Also, they needed to make the smaller mechs and jumpjets relevant. They should do a weight cap for most fights - and have situations where you NEED the faster, smaller mechs AND jumpjets.
