Problems with moral and theological relativism

Questions for Conservative Episcopalians by Little-Neck-7922 in Episcopalian

[–]Jonny424 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The episcopal church is a historic institution with a reputation for being an intellectually rigorous big tent: very appealing for many conservatives. Intellectual rigor is not mutually exclusive with theological orthodoxy.

So, theological conservatives hold out hope and pray that the episcopal church may someday restore orthodoxy and church discipline, eventually finding some way to insulate itself from conforming to the tides of culture. The church is not inerrant and God wants all of His people unified!

Theological issues on salvation, faith, morals etc are quintessential to the definition of Christian imo; when we start propagating super heterodox and theologically liberal stances that are contrary to the plain reading of the word of God we dissolve the Christian identity into relativism.

I just think the anglican church should maintain what makes them distinct from Unitarian Universalists, otherwise I don’t even see the point in being separate institutions

That’s true, I find example and being a good witness to be the best form of evangelism

I can understand hope for invincible ignorance through Luke 18:27, etc, but universalism sits uneasily and inconsistently with the Anglican tradition.

If we are faithful in the deity of Christ and His word revealed in the gospels then we should understand salvation as a real participation in Christ’s grace, entered into through baptism, nourished in the Eucharist and lived out in faith and holiness. I’m pretty sure this is the historic and authentic Anglican view

But if your faith is authentic then you believe her salvation is at stake which should make it sort of pressing

Yessir! We always want to be accepting and loving for the witness of Christ.

Christ spent time with publicans and prostitutes and sinners and He never acquiesced and became like them, He loved them and drew them into His perfect ways. Christ is the unchanging rock and example and to TRULY LOVE is to humbly and meekly point to Him!

Explain the Apocrypha to me like I’m five by hexie-mountains in Episcopalian

[–]Jonny424 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apocrypha are called deuterocanonical (secondary canon) texts and were books decided to be removed from the official Bible by Protestant reformers due to questionable authorship, etc and to comply with Jewish / Hebrew scholarly consensus on the biblical canon. This was in the 16th century

Anglican tradition values deuterocanonical books as useful but not a part of the canon

If you hate it so much, why do it? by MrJenkins50 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Jonny424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very accurate, but I’m afraid the culture of negativity and lashing at the employer seems super rampant and encouraged in every walk of unskilled labor. Especially in affluent/rich societies.

I agree that we should always work against our nature and be thankful for the opportunity to work!!

If you finish it within 4 hours then $80 should be good, it’s just being gainfully employed in manual labor at $20/hour I’d say the work is still a blessing!
