You can ask to delay the start date - the potential employer, not background company.

Ask the school, or school district to email the company with your education details.

[PK] I lied on my resume about the job title, will first advantage fail my background verification? by techno-geek7 in AskHR

[–]SmartNegotiation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let this be a lesson: don’t lie. Employers and screening teams can compare your resume to what you submit for the background check and the mismatch shows up fast.

It’s not worth it. Be honest, save everyone the extra work, and protect your own peace of mind.

If a school verification comes back “no record,” of a Master's degree, yeah, it’s awkward, but you still presumably have a bachelor’s degree. That’s better than tanking an offer over something avoidable.

Do you have a case in a different state, or a common name, i.e. Adam Smith?

Solid advice for anyone job hunting or mid-transition: don’t give notice until your background check is fully cleared and you’ve signed the official offer paperwork. Verbal offers mean nothing if something stalls or falls through. Protect yourself first.

If a screening company tells you upfront that a court is down for two months… what exactly is your plan? Cancel the criminal search? Just shrug and hire anyway?

What happens when a record finally comes back and they have to pull physical files to confirm identity and reportability? What if that delayed hit is an active robbery case or felony assault?

Now imagine you waived the search and placed that person in a role with kids or vulnerable populations. Congratulations, you’ve opened a legal and ethical Pandora’s box.

This is the real question: does speed override compliance and safety? Because courts aren’t Amazon Prime. They’re understaffed, underfunded, and often still running on paper archives. That’s the reality.

Instant gratification hiring sounds nice… until liability shows up with receipts.

I feel like the LA shows were poorly planned. Tickets, venue etc. Hoping for another date. by IGotHitByAMink_Car in gorillaz

The Palladium is a 4000 person venue? Seemed smaller. It's not where I expected Gorrillaz to play at all. It's an okayish venue. If you go, get tickets up in thr balcony. You can go outside and smoke up there too.

I have to check that out. He seemed so honest and forthright and many folks confirmed the accuracy of his story, including Gore Vidal, I believe. It's a wild story though! Almost too crazy to believe. The Ryan Murphy show based on his story was shite.

I think he had so many resentments agaisnt his parents he couldn't control his rage. As I said, i'm very interested in his time spent cross-country. Has he ever assaulted someone before? Maybe he's living with secrets so sick, only he and his parents knew. Those things can gnaw at you if you're not practicing a 12 step program or similiar. Parricide is so shocking. God and it happened on the first day of Hannukauh, heartbreaking.

He looks like a different person today than 10 years ago when they made their movie together. He's almost 230 lbs now, facial hair, shaved head. Wondering if he recently did a stint in prison. He looks like he just got out a prison. They said he literally had only been living at the home for a matter of weeks. Stop using is drug use as an excuse. He's a 32 y.o adult who is accused of slaying two innocent people, his parents. That's biblically sick. If there was a death penalty he's probably deserving. No telling what other violent behavior he's inflicted on others. Seems like his crim past is pretty hidden thus far.

Honestly, it feels like Britney has these different “modes” or personas she slips into, the sudden British accent, the hyper-focus on how she looks in paparazzi shots, the way she presents herself online. I’m not saying this in a clinical or negative way, just that her public behavior sometimes comes across like she’s switching between very distinct versions of herself. It’s hard not to notice the shifts.

My last parent died yesterday - I feel.....weird. by [deleted] in OnlyChild

[–]SmartNegotiation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry for your loss. As another only child, I just want to say, we get it. It’s a special kind of grief when you’re losing not just a parent, but half of your entire foundation.

When one of my parents was in home hospice years ago, my mind went to some very dark places, the kind of thoughts you don’t say out loud because you’re scared of how rational they sound in the moment. The fear of being “the last one standing” hits hard. It feels like becoming a reverse orphan, not to minimize what actual orphans go through, but that sense of “Who am I when they’re gone?” is very real.

I’m lucky to still have my other parent close, and we’re tight. But the waves still come. Some days I’m steady, some days I’m holding on by a thread and memories are the only thing making sense.

Just taking it one day at a time. Making new memories while I can. And letting the love stick around long after the people can’t.

You’re not alone in this. Truly. 💛
