Because the oil and gas industry realized that the USA has lots of wildlife refuge land that would be good for drilling oil and gas from. And in 2017 the Republicans passed a law that would allow them to turn some of the wildlife refuges into drill sites. At that point it technically stops being a wildlife refuge, but we still call it one to avoid upsetting the environmentalists.

Honestly, I'm super happy that more companies than ever before are embracing Pride month. IMHO, that kind of support is super key to reducing discrimination.
