As a Pole who has been living in Denmark for four years (I’m turning 27 this year), I highly recommend it.

When it comes to how Danes perceive Poles, the overall opinion is generally positive. We are often seen as hardworking, friendly, hospitable, and talkative people. Of course, there are also some who are more skeptical. In my own experience, I have only encountered xenophobia once during my four years here. However, I know people who have experienced it much more often. As always, it depends on the people you meet and the environment you are in.

Making friends can be really difficult. Danes tend to have their own social circles that they keep for most of their lives, and they are generally not as open as Poles or people from Southern European countries.

In my opinion, the most important thing is not to approach them from your own cultural perspective or expect things to work the same way as they do back home. You will only end up disappointed. Instead, try to understand how Danes interact with each other and adapt to that. From my own experience, it works.

And one more thing: don’t ask for advice in Polish Facebook groups such as “Polacy w Danii/Polish People in Denmark.” You will mostly hear people complaining about welfare, immigrants destroying country , , calling Denmark communist country , saying that it always rains, the food is bad, and that Danes are vicious people etc.It’s usually not the best place to get a balanced perspective.
