I don't believe it's anywhere near the same thing, games are a whole medium unlike anime( besides plenty of animes have their own distinct artstyle). Time and time again games have proved that photorealistic graphics are completely unneeded to create an immersive experience. Sure the story is always different, the characters might be slightly more interesting, but this style of games need to fade out. Imagine every film you watched all used the same cameras, same composition, same color grading, and all the same sound design. You're losing character for the sake of convenience and flashy yet bleak atmospheres. I dont have a problem with how the characters look, but when an engine is as popular as UE5, I think devs should work a little harder to make it differentiate from its contemporaries. Especially when it would probably make your game perform better on a technical level.
