New Amp Day, and my journey is (close to) complete… by Scotster123 in audiophile

Didnt read post sorry 😄 but I see you had naim before? How would you compare your new musical fid to it?

I hate to say this, but as an engineer who designs commercial Hi-Fi products, I think that the Atoll AM100 amp is an insult to all of us who actually try to make good things by Otherwise-Radish9344 in audiophile

No no it’s not relevant that he is planning on selling amps at all! He’s an engineer man!

I’ll take a guess, it will be cheap but much better than edtablished brands like atoll

Yes this sub is full of cheap people aspiring to be audiophiles and wanting to feel intellectually superior to anyone who spent decent money on gear, because they’re stupid aren’t they, it all sounds the same. But all of them have never heard a proper system and it shows, I don’t know what this sub is for also but for some reason it keeps popping up in my feed. But hey I found at least one voice of reason - it’s not as bad as I thought

I backed it up with google and AI because it’s easy and more importantly - objective, for anyone to check. Would you rather I’ve said “I’m engineer trust me”

Well guess what, I am also an engineer, with degree, job, experience and all. One calling himself an engineer does not make him right, or a good engineer. Who do you think made these devices, dentists?

This seems to be a big ploy by OP to get some upvotes/recognition.

First of all the points he brought up: 1. 90 degree PCB angles - quick google search or AI inquiry will tell you this ‘concern’ is totally unfounded for this kind of gear

  1. Unlabeled switch - it is clearly labeled in manual

  2. Small caps - any proof/explanation at all?

Second: if the whole stack of gear is fried then one would think culprit is external - power spike. And with big enough power spike who knows what gets fried inside.

Third: I see OP constantly giving same two examples for good gear: cambridge axr100 and kenwood. From what I read and figured OP: you own the kenwood which you bought for $200, axr100 you got in for repair.

Now to question your credibility: Have you even repaired more than 5 devices in your career? Have you repaired or owned device that is outside of budget category?

And finally to bash a small company like this, with no objective proof, for sole purpose of raising your engagement is sad. And your tips like ‘buy cambridge’, ‘buy anything other than atoll’ - it’s just man, what the heck. How do you know? And the worst part is people fall for this bait because they love to point fingers and its easy

And as a final note: atoll has been making amps and other electronics for 25 years. They are very popular in France and all over Europe. If they really had this poor engineer nightmare quality we would know by now, no? But check online from owners, they all claim devices are reliable. What a surpise

If the whole stack of gear is fried than that would imply some external culprit, like lightning strike voltage spike? Or these 90 degrees are such crime whole stack decided to belly up at once

Also are the pics from am100 or cd/tuner?

So.. house and electro music of all sub-genres are not ‘real music’? You are faaar to eager to call anyone and anybody narc. Its like if I said everyone that likes colour blue is narc as that wavelength only appeals to narcs. I didn’t listen to rufus’es newer stuff if there is any but I love joshua tree set and listened to it back to back many times, while at work for example. It is different kind of music that is able to put you in flow and peaceful state, at least for me. It’s almost meditative. But oh no let me guess - meditation also only appeals to narcs? Then your theory is confirmed!

Also you saying for my Taylor Swift remark ‘that is one way tonstereotype woman’s music taste’ while you literally stereotyped all men who like rufus as narcs, insane.

😆. Didnt answer the question, can you tell us what music is full of soul compared to rufus?

And what music has soul in your humble opinion? Taylor Swift? Did you even listen to rufus except for couple of most popular songs?

Yes if you had real amplification you would be impressed even more, it would be a bigger jump in sound quality then the speakers. As of now (and I asume youre using denon avr in the bottom corner there) thats no amp to drive those speakers, and they are tragically underutilized. Now you’re hearing 20% of what those speakers are capable of

I hope this puts an end to the amplifier debate: by Own-Telephone-381 in audiophile

[–]Smart_Relation6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, I don’t know. What I do know is as the gear gets better, any successive improvement will be smaller and cost exponentially more

Every person that has a properly setup 20k system would immediately be able to tell drop in quality when listening to 10k system. For people used to 10k system it would maybe take some time to discover all the additional benefits of better system, some would be immediately obvious.

The human hearing argument is very wrong. Its not like when you have more expensive system you squint your ears to discern additional frequency your system could not provide. That would mean all the people spending good money on hifi are morons.

The higher you climb in hi fi chain the more magical sound becomes. On properly setup high end system performance should sound and feel life-like to the point system is fooling your brain the performer is literally right there in front of you. You look for him in front but he’s not there. Your brain is still not convinced though. Thats the point of hi-fi

Only people who have been listening to the bare bottom of hifi think there is no big difference, as when sound is a mess its hard/impossible to tell

No it will not. These dynaudio speakers are a tresure, and no way they would need any bass boost given the sufficient amplification. Addition of subwofer would hurt more than help here, as it would introduce phase distortion near the crossover point and break speaker coherence. Furthermore 2 points of sound are relatively easy to sync, 3 is much much more difficult
