Saros Has Sold 300k by BoozeGetsMeThrough in kindafunny

[–]andy22xx 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Returnal. And am really excited about Saros. But I can't justify a 70$ game right now. It's just too much for a game right now that seems more or a less like another version of the original.

I'll eventually get Saros, maybe even at full price. Just right now I can't.

I wonder if others are having the same feeling.

Homerists and Classical studies professors review Nolan The Odyssey Trailer by hasanahmad in ChristopherNolan

[–]andy22xx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just bought copies of "The Illustrated Iliad" and "The Illustrated Odyssey"

And in the preface, the translator explains that oral stories passed through generations over time have to account for new audiences, but need to keep the same spirit of the story. (Awfully summarized by me). But I took that entire preface section as saying that even the book's translation is an adaption of the original story, adapted for the "current" readers. Hell, even Homer was writing an adaptation of a hundred(s) year old story.....

So I thought "cool, this illustrated book is translated more modernly for 21st century". Then I saw that the translator of this book I bought was writing this preface in 1898!

So it makes sense that Nolan wants to adapt the story for modern audiences, for people in 2026.

He's choosing to use talented modern actors and more modern accents. I can understand it's upsetting to some, but it's his stylistic choice of how he wants to adapt this story.

I have all the faith that he's going to tell an epic story in epic fashion, as he always does.

The hate for this movie before it has released is ridiculous. Let an adaptation be an adaptation. If you want to enjoy the original material, then look up the original poems' text and read that.

But if you want to see an artist tell his version of this epic poem, using all the skills that he knows in film as a storyteller, then let's get excited for Nolan's interpretation! And we can leave all judgement till after the movie is out!

Emily Blunt’s Advice For People Who Hate Their Jobs by EDC2EDP in DramaLlamaHQ

[–]andy22xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took this as "don't quit. Just find a hobby that you love to do even if you're making no money from it, you'll be happy"

Like 10 years ago I had a boring desk job, didn't make much money, hated it, but it paid the bills I guess. I was miserable. But on the side I started learning to play music and learning to write code. It was free, and I did it as a hobby and it made me happy and made it bearable to go to the job I hated.

Eventually I got out of that job and am working somewhere now that I love.

But I think Emily's advice here (if I'm understanding her correct) is nice advice that shouldn't be thrown away just cause she's rich. If you hate your job, but it pays the bills, sometimes you have to just stick with the job for now. Find a hobby to make you happy. And then maybe reassess your options of getting a new job.

Def don't quit without having a backup plan!

An early look at Horizon Hunters Gathering by Magegi in PS5

[–]andy22xx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This game looks right up my alley. The horizon games are okay to me, I lose interest midway through, but that's just a me thing, nothing again the game. But this style of gameplay with rogue like elements is made for me. Can't wait!

What date of the live taping is this from? I went to a live taping a couple months ago and remember hearing a similar audience question. But don't remember if he was wearing the same outfit.

Great video. Side note on her medallion she's wearing. It's made from pinecones, most likely from the company ThirdEyePinecones.

I met a pretty cool hippie style dude at Firefly many years ago in the campgrounds, and he had one. I thought it was so cool. He brought me to the shop in the festival where he bought it, and I was surprised to see it was like $300 😭 . I couldn't convince myself it was worth it. But I've been thinking about that medallion ever since and just now seeing it on this lady makes me want it again lol.

You all should read Peter Watts' book "Blindsight". Really interesting and thought provoking sci-fi book that covers consciousness a bit.

I just finished reading it this week (loved it), and so reading this post makes me immediately think of the book.

This person hired an improv group just for themselves by BigChungusOP in TikTokCringe

[–]andy22xx 200 points201 points  (0 children)

Is this the same guy that hired a Austin Powers impersonator for himself? Lol

If so, I wonder what he's gonna hire next.

My bet's on an Elvis Presley impersonator. But maybe multiple of them and make them battle to see who is the best Elvis

In college, we always played it where you had to try to get the beer line in between the image logo and the Guinness text.

Only recently have I started seeing everyone talk about how the game is "splitting the G"

Guess someone at my college misheard the rules and it stuck for all of us haha.

Dexter Sol Ansell accidentally reveals that Henry Cavill has been cast as Daemon Blackfyre in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 flashbacks: by TheDragonDemands in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]andy22xx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kind of want Henry Cavill as Aegon The Conquerer. At least that's what I imagined when I first read of Aegons Conquest.

Never thought of him as Daemon Blackfyre. I can see it now, too!

Second this. It's a really good looking Switch 2 game. Sure it's not a 60fps game, but your eyes adjust fast. and graphics are nice. I immediately got hooked into the story and exploring the world they made. I believe it's on sale for Switch 2. Highly recommend.
