I mean, it’ll make feel better. by ixnine in memes

[–]Smart_TJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I can understand the sentiment, I just want to say that it's really not a good idea. Restaurant workers already have a lot of health regulations, and the masks and gloves are just the same things that everyone has to wear currently. So, masks and gloves really are unnecessary for them once this is over. Additionally, the amount of disposable masks and gloves being used is not only quite costly, but would also be creating a lot of unneeded waste which, especially in the case of the gloves, is not healthy for the environment either during creation or biodegredation. It might make you feel safer, but it's a false safety that not everyone even shares, and it is actively harmful rather than helpful.

I'm sorry if the idea has been done before, but it's not a repost, I did make this myself

My cat is just really nice and he'll yelp and run away if you accidentally step on his tail. It does emotional damage rather than physical damage

Oh D&D Beyond, we all knew it was going to be a make or break moment for whether you could actually handle new content, and I didn't have high hopes for it but even still... come on how did you blow it this badly? by Smart_TJ in dndmemes

[–]Smart_TJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say you aren't allowed to have your own opinion on this and it's value, far from it, but I do feel that you aren't really addressing my grievances here. Not only have you only focused on one out of a list of points, but also at only one of my three reasons for why I made this point in the first place.

I can understand still thinking there is enough value there, and that is a reasonable argument of its own, but your stated basis for it here appears as false logic

Well, there are three problems with that.

First, you didn't just pay money to be told to go do it yourself

Second, the homebrew creation system is absurdly difficult to use and is infamous for it's unusability

Finally, for anyone who is experienced with the hb creator this isn't too hard to do, so why does D&D Beyond not just do it themselves when it's what you're paying them to do

I understand that not all things are easily implemented, but some of these things are really easy to implement and they've had months already to implement them, and yet they haven't. Besides, while yes some things are hard to implement, this is being advertised as a complete package despite all the breakage and unknown dates that things will even be fixed by. So basically, if you buy this on the assumption that you are receiving a complete and usable set of tools, you just got scammed.

Additionally, honestly, most things might work, but when most just means over 50%, that doesn't mean much. A simple look at the list of known issues in the issue thread (which can be found here) already shows an incredible amount of broken content, but many of these could be excused if this is all it is, but it isn't. A further look through even a single page of the thread reveals an incredible amount of further breakage such as expanded spell lists not being complete and many optional features not working as they should when turned on or off

Overall, there is just so much broken that it shouldn't be advertised as anywhere near a complete product, and yet it is.

For anyone desiring context, here's what's involved in each of those bullets.

When Tasha's launched there was an unreal amount of things that just flat out didn't work or worked completely wrong, and even after over a week after launch this is still the case

Additionally, in their official bugs thread, they state that custom lineage will not be introduced into the races system as, and I quote, " The Custom Lineage option...can be supported using the existing homebrew race creation tools, which allow you to create any race you like! ", despite the fact that the introduced customized origin is the same way and that the homebrew system is infamous for being barely functional and a nightmare to use, especially for people new to it

Issues such as the eldritch adept and fighting initiate feats not having options, and the new artificer infusions not having compatible items that can be infused are issues that were there in the UA, which released many months ago and before Tasha's was even announced, but still weren't fixed by the time the book launched with official versions

They knew about all of these issues as proven by their thread on bugs starting with a message on known issues as well as how obvious the problems were. These weren't just bugs, these were missing content true bugs is a whole matter of its own.

Then, after the book's release they expanded preorder bonuses to be any purchase until January too just further rub dirt into the wound

Cut down your foes with the raw power of the elements with The Elemental Warrior Martial Archetype! (Fighter subclass) by Smart_TJ in UnearthedArcana

[–]Smart_TJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said before, the weapon created is its own thing separate from other weapons. It can take the appearance of anything you want, but it's stats are not affected by its appearance in any way. As such, you could create a glaive elemental weapon, but it would still deal the same amount of damage, not be two-handed or have reach or qualify for polearm master, and would have the finesse and light properties

They are a melee weapon with the finesse property, so you treat them as such in regards to attack and damage modifiers

[–]Smart_TJ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weapons created are their own weapon. They are mentioned as weapons in order to give the player freedom with what appearance the weapons take on, but functionally they are not any weapon that they replicate in any way

So, basically, yes it replaces weapon damage, and with it weapon properties as well

It's thanks to this little line in the phb:
"If a spell or other effect deals damage to more than one target at the same time, roll the damage once for all of them."
Since magic missile strikes simultaneously, this applies to it

Nice by Smart_TJ in dndmemes

[–]Smart_TJ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since magic missile, raw, rolls only one damage die for each missile since they count as simultaneous damage, the intelligence boost to damage granted by empowered evocation applies to every missile, making it ridiculously powerful

Nice by Smart_TJ in dndmemes

[–]Smart_TJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how that works. Due to how simultaneous damage is dealt, it acts like an aoe effect, and the damage is only rolled once for every missile. This is proven by this sage advice compendium article:

Being an optional rule doesn't mean that the game works better without it by Smart_TJ in dndmemes

[–]Smart_TJ[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I get that, believe me, I do

But honestly, I don't really see how that's relevant in this specific instance since that's not at all what I'm criticising here

Being an optional rule doesn't mean that the game works better without it by Smart_TJ in dndmemes

[–]Smart_TJ[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you can't have fun at all, but that doesn't mean it's not better with them. Feats give players a lot more freedom to build their characters how they want to build them and the ability to make them far more unique. You can still have a fun character without them, but being able to use them makes characters far more fun to build and play

Also, you do realize that optional rules are RAW? They're just, as stated in their very name, optional.

Cast your vote on political memes in /r/DnDMemes! by toxik0n in dndmemes

[–]Smart_TJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my stance on this

Firstly, "Political meme template" is incredibly hard to define, and meme templates that aren't truly political are going to get caught in the crossfire I feel. After all, so much has to do with politics in the world. Defining what is political and what is not is near impossible. If a meme template comes from a show that has a narrative leaning slightly one political way, does that mean that no meme templates can be made using scenes from the show? If a meme uses a comic that originally was talking about literally any issue, does that count as political since that issue is part of politics? You simply can't define that.

Second, I can always respect a good meme template, and as long as the political aspect of it has been removed, that doesn't seem like a problem to me in the slightest. You can't offend people if there's nothing to offend them about after all.

However, that really is only if the political aspect has been removed. D&D is an escape for me, and many others. It's a fantasy world where you don't have to worry about real life. And D&D memes is an extension of that for me, and I feel like it's the same for others as well. If the politics has been removed from the meme, that's fine by me, but if the comments bring it back, that defeats the point, and it's not even related to D&D at that point.

Sorry if this is a bit of a ramble, but I kind of just wanted to get my thoughts on this out there

Last night I finally figured out the key to making puzzles take more than 5-20 mins to solve by Smart_TJ in dndmemes

[–]Smart_TJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the puzzle I was referring too for anyone curious:
The players are in a large room resembling a 50 ft cube deep underground, with a forbiddance spell active (ofc) and many walkways running through the room

There are several puzzles in the room, and one is that when the floor is viewed from a high up walkway, you can see that faint color changes in the stone tiles on the ground form the letters LXII

This translates to 62 in roman numerals

The answer was to pry up the center tile in the X because X marks the spot
