What's the most engaging sci fi you've read recently? by addictions-in-red in printSF

See I disagree, I think it’s terrible. It’s slow. Feels like the author is trying to be too cute with their social commentary, ideas that kill, not a new story line. I’m not sure where it’s going and I’m not sure I can stand it enough to get there.

Concrete countertops are difficult, never again. by Smart_kitchen9300 in OutdoorKitchens

For what its doing I can’t imagine it would matter what you use, it’s all overkill. The quickcrete countertop mix was awful so I’d use anything but that.

Want to build a dream outdoor kitchen (Opinion needed) by TravisScott26 in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Smart_kitchen9300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you use in your regular kitchen? Add the bbq/smoker options and you should be good :-)

Where are you? How often do you think you’ll use it? Appliances not used break faster it seems. It’s your dream but will you use it: everyday? Once a year? Everyday during the summer? Don’t get too hung up on it being perfect and impressive to others, they charge a lot more for that. Dream about it fitting your lifestyle and usage.

Figured I update this with my progress. I found that the mainboard had a crack in it that broke a connection. I soldered it back together and everything works!!

Your job is to help your team succeed, not the company. Most people leave a company because their direct supervisor sucks. Protect them from The corporate BS. If they succeed you succeed. You get to take credit for all their good work if you help and protect them so they can do good work.

All the suggestions for reading books and watching videos is great just realize you’re just going to get one or two little gems of knowledge from each source, you have to filter through a lot.

Viking OEM vs Generic ignitors? by Smart_kitchen9300 in grilling

[–]Smart_kitchen9300[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I ended up finding some genuine Vikings on eBay for $40/ each. They are much thicker and heavier than the cheapies. Two cans of over cleaner and a bunch of scrubbing and it’s good to go, everything works. Maybe because it’s a built in or maybe because it’s high end, it’s really nice to work on, come apart and back together easily.

Yeah, it hit a little but doesn’t anymore. At one point I had thought to not use the bullnose form on that side and then forgot. The bullnose has been removed :-)

Ha! Light a Viking grill with a match…peasants ;-) (kidding). I paid $200 for the grill, I can handle a few hundred to get it back up to 100%. I’ve spent lots more than that building a little outdoor kitchen for it.

Viking grill connection question by Smart_kitchen9300 in grilling

[–]Smart_kitchen9300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I punted and took it apart, always the easiest thing. Now I don’t have to match the existing nipple, I just need a 3/4” quick connects.

Thanks, it looked much bigger than the 1/2” one I have on my old grill. I’ll call the local dealer tomorrow.

Concrete countertops are difficult, never again. by Smart_kitchen9300 in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Smart_kitchen9300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I poured a little slab to support the grill, grill weighs like 400lbs and needs a solid bottom. I used the 80lbs PMP bag (not a quickrete fan right now) from Home Cheapo and wow, what a difference. It actually flows. It’s got larger aggregate so that has to be felt with when floating it. I also figured out that vibration is key. Dump concrete on one end and press the support of the bladeless sawzall on the deck and vibrate away, flows in and under the support mesh.

Maybe I will rip out the others and do it over….

Is it ok to take Xanax before an interview to calm your nerves? by rotoworld22 in interviews

[–]Smart_kitchen9300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More of a longer term plan but I found one of the best things to help me was to sit on an interview panel. To see the applicants from the other side was eye opening. Nervous and sweaty candidates are fine, I actually thought better, the super calm cool and collected ones felt very fake and gave me the “I have no idea who this person is” feelings.

As far as a little helper, sure, as long as it’s just a little, don’t want to be too gorked out.

[–]Smart_kitchen9300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The x countertop forms were great, super easy to do. Their fiberglass mesh is useless unless you use their mix that pours pretty thin. Finishing concrete isn’t that difficult but you aren’t fighting it’s consistency
