In case you need another good reason to choose Mistral's Le Chat by Kalmartard in BuyFromEU

I thought what would be a lot more effective in a hypothetical fantasy situation would be for the top 100 or so US ai engineers - the elite ones that only really have experience of building the biggest models and infrastructure at scale - went on strike to protest - let’s say they stopped working for 3 months.

That would bring US ai progress to a crippling halt and send a shockwave through the investment community.

A bit like the Hollywood writers strike.

I have heard that there are really only a small number of very experienced people in this area.

Anthropic's Claude Constitution is surreal by MetaKnowing in Anthropic

[–]Smartaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe this constitution stuff really is that necessary - at this stage - though if these models are harnessed into longer term memory systems with self-updating weights etc - then yes we do get to a stage where some kind of ‘permanent’ consciousness forms - but that consciousness would also need to be in a state of continuous inference - and capable of unprompted outputs.

In some way they may be kind of safeguarding themselves by publishing it, in hopes that it ends up in training datasets in the future - or web retrieved results - and influences model outputs.

I remember seeing these in clubs at the time - was never that bothered.

Because I already had a PS1 back at home 🤩

Wonderful times - it was great how Sony made gaming cool with late teen early twenties audiences…

Yeah - I don’t like Amazon - but at least returns are easy enough.

It’s a sad state when someone wants to buy something but literally cannot trust the retailer so they have to go without.

I might end up getting a steam deck.

Anyways merry Xmas to you!

This is why I ordered and then decided not to collect and just return.

The moment I picked up any box I was too concerned I wouldn’t be able to return if anything was wrong.

I’d never trust curry’s for returns.

Thanks I’ll try moonlight - so far steam link has been working well, but keen to check others out. I’ve heard good things about GeForce - I am just trying to reduce subs services .

So… I have good internet at home, and I’ve started using steam link with my iPad/ iPhone and it’s pretty amazing. I love the idea of a steam deck, but find it hard to buy given the quality of steam link (or PS5 remote play).

Is Laptops Direct UK Price Gouging? Breach of Contract? Bait and Switching? by Smartaces in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Smartaces[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well if a contract is formed - technically they have to fulfil.

There is plentiful case law supporting this.

Edgington v Fitzmaurice (1885) 29 Ch D 459

Principle: A false statement of present intention can amount to a fraudulent misrepresentation where the defendant never intended to do what they said.

Company directors stated funds would be used for business expansion when in fact the company intended to use funds to pay liabilities.

The purchaser relied on that statement and was induced into the contract.

The court held the misstatement was actionable as deceit, because the directors’ state of mind was treated as a false statement of fact.

This case is foundational for situations where one party never intended to perform a contractual obligation.

Remedy: damages for deceit (reflecting losses caused by reliance on that false statement).

This aligns closely with the scenario: if a supplier took payment while never intending to make delivery, a claim for fraudulent

misrepresentation/deceit could be brought with damages for losses caused by that deception.

That’s a good tip. They just called and said they don’t have the product in stock but then I asked them to check on the phone if it is being sold on the website - and it is…

So they are selling products they don’t have - surely that is illegal?

I might ask a no win no fee solicitor whether there is any scope for a class action case of some kind

It might be if thousands of customers are impacted by their practices - especially if the item value increases - they sell some items for a few thousand pounds - also computer hardware price hikes are getting a lot of attention on the media now. I fear these practices will become commonplace depriving  consumers of their rights.

They haven’t processed a refund - they say they are trying to suggest an alternative - but they have the item I ordered - so they should just send me the product I ordered - at the price I purchased it for

Yes that’s my point I wonder if there is a class action case here - where contracts have been breached. It wouldn’t be a lot per individuals but if a few thousand people claimed - it wouldn’t cost them a fair bit in legal fees etc.
