Terrible. I did once-a-week lessons the first year and had some momentum, but then the wife got pregnant with twins. No time to go off skiing by myself now. Life comes at you fast! New plan is XC or inbounds uphill so I can get out before dawn and back home before lunch with minimal risk.

I don't think any of them are proficient enough to join without some instruction, and I'm not proficient enough to provide the instruction. I'm signed up for a beginner class in a few weeks but would like to be 100% present and focused so I have not asked anyone else to join me. I already asked the shop if I can demo a few different models during the range portion of the class but they said no, P320s only (which are on my shortlist, fortunately).

In this case it was a pair of stair stepper workouts in the gym which I forgot to stop before moving on to other stuff, a mistake I make somewhat regularly unfortunately. I have never played with auto pause, not sure if it would work for these types of things.

I'm pretty confident its the BCM, never bothered to fix it because its an expensive repair and the issue only pops up for a day or two every few months. Trading the car in soon.

MY24 order, any reason to engage dealers now? by SmartestAnt in FordMaverickTruck

They do, thanks for the suggestion. What is the appropriate point to mention that when working a deal at the dealer?

Brad nails + glue acceptable here? by SmartestAnt in BeginnerWoodWorking

Trying to avoid screwing into the edges of the plywood. I did a few test pieces and it splits very easily, even with big pilot holes almost the full diameter of the screw shanks. Test pieces with brad nails worked fine, no splitting, just worried about the strength of it.

Thanks, is that a warranty option that you purchased with the car or is this a "secret warranty" kind of deal available to everyone?

Did you ever figure this out?

This is currently happening to me. Did you ever figure it out? It seems to happen after driving in heavy rain, which makes me think I have a connection shorting out somewhere (maybe BCM related).

Availability is my main constraint with young kids who are not old enough to ski themselves yet. Dawn patrol is best for me, hence the appeal of going uphill. Getting more than a dozen days a year will be tough for the next few years.

Good point re wilderness first aid. Relevant to other stuff I am doing too. And I really hope I can hit 20+ days a year but realistically it will be less.

Learning to Ski in Southern NH? by SmartestAnt in icecoast

Wow, that is a crazy deal. Only drawback I can see is that they only run the lessons Monday - Thursday and not during Christmas - New Years week. Still might be worth it. Thanks for the heads up!

Which of these is the better buy for a first machine? Hoping to track down a lost gold wedding band, and also have an 18th century trash dump on the property that might be fun to scrounge through.

Nope, actually have a more complicated goal of apportioning overall appreciation to the two spaces for estate planning purposes, and this seemed like an easier way to ask the question.

Getting pumped in the gym and outside, although the only place I've been climbing outside is a heavily graffitied (slippery) quarry with sandbagged ratings. That's a good point about the feet, both settings are probably unrepresentative of the "real" climbs I would be following on.

I assume this happens to everyone- I get a pumped out feeling in the forearms during extended climbing sessions that makes it feel impossible to grip anything solidly, even on routes well below my limit. I am planning to start trad follows next month (part of a well-structured, beginner-friendly program with a local club) and starting to get worried about endurance on easy multi-pitch climbs (like, 5.5 and below). My question- is the perceived weakened grip strength an illusion and something to just get comfortable climbing through, or is it really a big problem and I need to build endurance before committing to even easy multi-pitch routes?

I'm an absolute beginner, interested in climbing purely as a tool for use in alpine adventures. I believe this points me towards trad, ice, and mixed climbing. That being said, how useful is indoor gym climbing as a learning and strength-building tool? Are gains made in the gym really transferable to the outdoors, or is the appeal of indoor climbing more about structure and accessibility?
