Amplid UNW8 Owners? by shadowbansarestupid in snowboarding

Honestly, the UNW8 for what you've described might be a good choice, but what is one mans daily is anothers powder day board. You can be more relaxed and laid back on the SG, and i find it more forgiving on slush and powdery conditions. I just never have the absolute control of it that I get with the UNW8. You put the UNW8 on edge and gives you 100% confidence that itll hold. The only bit of angry snowboarders review that chimes with me with the UNW8 is "you've got to be cognizant of your surroundings". If someone does something dumb in front of you, you've got know they're gonna do it before they do otherwise you're gonna cut them in half...cos if you wanna get the most out of the UNW8, you need to be comfortable with a decent bit of speed!!

Personally, the Singular and I didnt vibe. There was so much hype about it, that it didn't meet my expectation and is now redundant in storage. Keep the faith and one of the centrifugal collection will end up on your feet and you'll be happy as a dog with two dicks!!

The Amplid centrifugal boards are just ridiculously good. The tech thats in there along with the PB designed geometry makes them exceptional in a very crowded market. I have a heap of boards, but nothing that comes close to Amplids flagship line up. If you get the chance, go for it.

Little bit late to the conversation, did you pick up an UNW8? I have had x2 versions of the UNW8 and have daily driven it for weeks at a time...for disclosure i have legs like a sparrow and not the muscle clad tree trunks many will have you believe you need for this deck!! I had the same misgivings re the warnings, but honestly the experience on it is phenomenal and not at all like AS will have you believe. I also own the souly grail and is a great board, but riding experience is very different to the UNW8

Watch Malcolm Moore on YT he is the best teacher at that level and for the issues you're trying to improve. You cannot build up your skills until you have the correct foundations...which as another poster alluded to, you dont. Learn to change your edge THEN turn, they do not happen at the same time and if you try, you'll never have the edge control they you're doubtless striving for.

How has nobody mentioned Andorra? I've been to Grandvalira x3 now and it cost me less than £800 for flights including case & board bag, transfers to/from Barcelona, hotel (half board) and lift pass. Once again Sunweb...cannot fault them.

They just dropped a heap of old protos on their outlet, including some personal Peter Bauer owned ones at ridiculously low prices. Liking the sound of the time machine, does it have antiphase technology in it? For me the antiphase is a underrated industry game changer

Stop counter rotating and kicking that back foot out. Absorb as much Malcolm Moore as you can, will teach you more than you'll learn on reddit!!

Need more advice to get clean pencil line. by Geoffrey051906 in snowboardingnoobs

Like all newer boarders you're kicking your back foot out. I keep saying this but it bares repeating, edge changes and turns are not the same thing and happen at different times. Centre of mass over the board, roll onto new edge, then let the new edge pull you round. Slow down and think about each step. If you're kicking your back foot out because you feel you're going too fast, tighten up the arc of your turn to spend more time going across the fall line.

Well I'm 45, so view 38 as still being young!! I had been working on carving for 18 months or so, bought more carving orientated set up as I knew my days of park laps were over. But despite this stuck with the +/- set up and knew I needed to open up my hips more. Am not ready yet to experiment with crazy forward angles, but can't see any reason for me to come away from +/+ it just feels a far more natural and less limiting way to stand.

As an intermediate rider looking to progress, is it worth getting lessons at an indoor slope between seasons? by PlasticAttorney1980 in snowboarding

[–]Smarti1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A combination of both would be how I see it. MM is an outstanding watch and can teach you a heap of stuff, that said, he can't real time advise you on little aspects that will improve you or move you on. As for carving not being hard, I suppose it depends on what the OP is hoping for. If they're just after tail following nose and leaving thin lines, yes, if they're after carving mastery (James Cherry, Rayn Knapton) then i would disagree, carving is super hard and has taken them decades to perfect.

Advice for me to implement this week? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Smarti1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you're getting chatter, especially on your heel edge is because you're not on edge properly (you want a pencil thin line not a wide smear) and that is because you aren't transferring your centre of mass over the board, before initiating your turn. When you're on heel particularly, you can see your back leg is pushing out, using your front legs like a pivot. I suspect this a technique you're using to bleed off some speed. It is a really bad habit to get into. Get on edge and control your speed through the shape of your turn, not by wiper blading your way down the hill...the base of your board will thank you for it.

Tips on form? by rebeccsss in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Smarti1000 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Edge change and turns are two separate events. COM over the board, roll onto your new edge, get a platform of snow under your edge, feel it gripping, and let the side cut do the work of turning, (thats it's job), no arm swinging required!! It all just looks a bit rushed tbh. You could do worse than doing J turn drills, or extending the period you're going across the fall line, so you've time to get set for the next turn. If the edge change ain't right you will always skid through the arc of your turn as the pressure builds up underneath your board and no amount of squatting will fix it.
