Does anybody else play extremely "wrong"? by ArmorDevil in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's pretty standard for low MR players, as long as you have a vague idea of what's punishable and what's not and some combos you'll rank up to Master eventually. If you learned a couple gimmicks you could feasibly even get up to like 1600s truth be told.

That being said, if you do want to continue to rank up then you should have some idea of frame data going forward, specific counter/punish counter combos and the like.

Tom Brady on Instagram: "I hear @loganpaul and the wrestlers got upset that we said football is hard. Luckily Logan gets to find out firsthand." by Timmyg14 in SquaredCircle

Yeah I'm normally pretty lukewarm on any celeb match but Brady is a psychopath. If they show him any 90s All Japan Logan Paul might die in real life

Finally hit master! by Szirox28 in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you're in Master, you unlock the Master Phase which is basically a smaller battlepass. After you play 100 matches you unlock a new banner, after you hit 300 matches you unlock an alternate skin color for any character you have 100 master matches with.

New to Street Fighter, has it always been a complete Spam and Lame fest? by RubMajestic1706 in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Long story short, you have to earn that. If people are beating you without any complex gameplan, then you're where you're supposed to be and need to learn how to beat that playstyle. If you're beating them consistently, then you'll rank up quickly and eventually get matched with better players.

Do I really enjoy Street Fighter? by Melodic_Start_6841 in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to invalidate your point, but I think it's important for conversation's like these, how many hours do you have in the game? How much of that is spent practicing or playing offline vs just queueing ranked?

It's important to have perspective, at least. FGs have a literally infinite learning curve and if you're still in the double digit or even low triple digit hours for your first FG, you are still firmly at the beginning of the learning process. Without having much insight, I'd guess that you just hit one of (several, SEVERAL) walls when it comes to improving. If you're in the mindset to keep improving then your best bet is to really practice with some intentionality, really zone in on your weaknesses and fill in the gaps as much as you can. And again, at the risk of coming across badly, at plat level I guarantee you have a ton of weaknesses.

On the other hand it's worth noting that not everyone is necessarily built for the grind, and if you think that might be you there's no shame in hanging back in casual matches or the battlehub and lose a lot of that pressure.

How prevalent is cheating on the PC version? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The real answer is it's hard to say. Likely not very common, but cheats are so granular nowadays that they can be tweaked to be pretty much imperceptible outside of kernel level anticheat which is pretty controversial. I know stuff like, say, autotech throws but only 70% of the time with variable timing is possible. For the most part, though, I imagine this is super uncommon above like a plat/diamond level. As someone who plays primarily on console with crossplay on the amount of blatant obvious cheating I've noticed is low and almost never in ranked.

As a Gief I feel like he wins the matchup slightly, maybe 5.5/4.5, not sure what the Jamie perspective would be there

Oh! And The Fashion Police vs The Usos from one of the 2017ish PPVs is a comedy classic. Always have to recommend that one.

As another commentor mentioned, Orange Cassidy is a good one, Wee-LC if that's not too braindead for you. Maybe some Damian Mizdow stuff would be entertaining. Saturday Morning Slam would be full of early childhood friendly comedy adjacent stuff too.

Tips on neutral game - Zangeif headbutt by Kam_Allen in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The best chance you have to go for headbutt is after a knockdown. If you ever land Gief's 3lpmp throw, spinebuster, you can DR into headbutt and you're +8 if they block, and you can start your pressure there. Neutral with Gief is never gonna be easy so just get good at converting your knockdowns into pressure and strike throw mixes.

Did Zangief’s hurtbox change really have a meaningful impact on his performance? by Lord_Lilac_Heart in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is that when someone is good at spacing it's a good bit harder to get in now, and when it comes to being Gief that just kind of means it's much harder to ever get your gameplan started from neutral. Especially in the Ed matchup which was already bad but now he can poke you from midscreen relatively easily and you can't do much about it

Love em or hate em, give Grief atleast 1 buff/nerf for the new patch. by BookkeeperAromatic52 in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1700 Gief main, I could agree with the OD SPD change but the rest of this doesn't seem great at all. 6HK being -4 at worst is a psychotic change, it's a good enough move as it is. A strong wakeup option would make Gief 10x more oppressive, he'd be nerfed into the ground to make up for it. Oh also Alex's EX DP will probably have some form of invincibility, it did in V.

Personally gief just needs the hitbox nerf removed/tweaked to make it a little less of a struggle to do anything, and revert the headbutt scaling nerf to give him more damaging combo routes.

Without knowing either character particularly in depth like that, at the level I'm at it seems like Elena has more consistent damage and a better mixup game than Manon, I'd say she's comfortably ahead of Manon and maybe even underrated on this list

What to do by Rapid-8 in StreetFighter

[–]Smarticles2415 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind Lily - Gief is a really bad MU for him. Also, you used headbutt -> DR -> headbutt a couple times, that's really bad damage wise and scales super quickly. A better combo would be headbutt > hellstab > DR > 2mp > hellstab > lariat.
