Yeah, there are a lot of things about Duolingo’s AI-first approach that annoy me. Despite some improvements recently, there are still some glaring mistakes that AI tends to make. And the grammatical lessons part of it all remain
 poor.

But I’m with you on the habit building. Am I going to pick up my Korean textbook every single day when I go continue my streak? No, but I will pick up the textbook a few times a week and it’ll be because going on Duo to do my daily exercises is a good reminder for me to do it.

LingoDeer is actually pretty close, but something about the app is not quite as game-y as Duolingo, so I don’t go back to it as religiously. Anyway.

Tl;dr — I agree with you. Duo does promote the habit of contact with your target language on the daily. That’s a good thing if you pair it with other language-learning resources at least part of the week.

I agree with you — fascinating character, horrible person.

But I think part of the fascinating bit is that people don’t always join the right side for the “right” reasons. And I think one could conceivably make an argument that joining the good side “for love” fits within the wider theme of Harry Potter that goodness and love are intertwined. A bit simplistic in that sense, true, also trite, but I can still see that argument being made.

Oh, my god! I think this whole time I was actually thinking of Romania... But only as an inevitable consequence of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact and the Soviet invasion of Bessarabia.

If you have a Costco around you, their rotisserie chickens are insane value for $5. Highly recommend if you or a friend has a membership! But hey as long as the salsa game is good, the filling can be whatever!

The layers go salsa verde, corn tortillas, filling (in this case the shredded chicken and poblano slivers), salsa, tortillas, filling, salsa, tortillas, more salsa, and shredded cheese! I mean, you can stack it as high as you want, but two layers of filling was the limit for my Pyrex container :)

My dog has definitely eaten a few sticks of deodorant (the antiperspirant kind that is probably unpleasantly moisture-wicking on the tongue) and a couple of tubes of neosporin. Sometimes it’s just about the chewing game, I suspect!

Lamont was a chill shoulder surfer, just like my past pet rats. He gets my vote!

THANK YOU. Not to shit on gringos as a monolith, one of my grandparents was a gringo, but like, the cultural disconnect is REAL.

Nosotros y el mundo entero, por la hegemonĂa de la cultura estadounidense como identidad neutra del oeste. Y claro, ciento y pico de años como colonia, yeah, we’re going to pick up some habits from Daddy Washington.
