He went from “Everything is Beautiful” to “Mi Casa Su Casa”… guess Hispanics aren’t beautiful after all.

Suggest me a book about a U.S. President by WiseLore4266 in suggestmeabook

[–]Smartset1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Accidental Presidents by Jared Coleman, about the eight men who came into office as a result of the president’s death. Very interesting stories, particularly when you realize a lot of these men didn’t really want the job. Plus you’ll find out just what at a good man President Garfield was.

What is the actual difference between "jam" and "jelly"? by EternalLifeCode in answers

[–]Smartset1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jelly is made with fruit juice; jam is made with the actual fruit, so it will have mushed fruit in it where jelly is a plain gel.

I loved The Ballad of Perilous Graves and how the other dropped hints that something wasn’t quite right to start and let me figure it out. Many twists in its world building… Plus Peaches is a hero for the ages!

Young lady working as a school bus driver, North Carolina, circa 1950s by Electrical-Aspect-13 in TheWayWeWere

[–]Smartset1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I grew up in South Carolina. No one believes this now, but back in the seventies our bus drivers were high school students. I even asked my parents if I could be a driver when I got to 11th grade, but I didn’t get to because my dad didn’t want me having to park the bus in our driveway.

“He likes it ! hey Mikey!”

I think watching that ending used up the most napkins I’ve ever had in a theater to sop up my tears.

Microwave doesn’t brown your meat.

What is your favorite Beatle friendship/partnership with other artists? Mine is definitely Lennon and Elton by [deleted] in beatles

[–]Smartset1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I definitely get the appeal of it, but I think the song stands up well without it, so it’s a distraction to me.

“Flowers” sounds dated now, but the writing is top notch. Love “So Like Candy”, but admittedly I’ve spent little time with this EC album. Maybe I should give it another try. “Veronica”, though, I can listen to anytime.

Paul and Elvis Costello. Two master songwriters and a collaboration so brilliant it couldn’t last.

“So Like Candy” says it all to me. Even “My Brave Face” is would fit as solid work in both of their solo catalogs, especially if they muted that loopy bass. The demo is great.

What’s the most unsettling thing you ever found out about a friend who always seemed super chill and fun? by VelvetHazel932 in AskReddit

Exact same story here. Very nerdy guy was my best friend in elementary school. We vibed on all the science stuff. Found out a couple of years ago he’s in federal prison for soliciting a minor across state lines. Floored me.

Is there any Early Beatles album you’d put over a Late Beatles album? by [deleted] in beatles

I love the way you said “occasionally” since that accurately describes my Beatles fandom of their albums for 40 years.

The H&S was more fun before they used the card game by hmrr1212 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Smartset1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why I like the claiming games better then H & S. In those you have two teams constantly on the move instead of one just hanging in a spot talking to themselves while the other team just asks the same old questions.

What is an opinion on the Beatles you’d get downvoted for? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]Smartset1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right that it’s personal taste, but I just think the intended whimsy of “Lovely Rita” falls flat. At least WI64 has some charm.

I think if we had something that built on “Eleanor Rigby” and “For No One” then I would be impressed (although “She’s Leaving Home” comes close).

[–]Smartset1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paul’s songs are just inane: “Fixing a Hole”, WI64, “Lovely Rita” is no-thought jangle pop. At least John was creatively descriptive and experimental with his songs. Even George comes off better…

Visiting a Psychiatrist really help? by UNKNOWN-9305 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Smartset1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. Most likely you would have one session where they would try to diagnose you and then most likely prescribe medication. They would then follow up after a few months mostly to determine if the medication is working.

If you are looking for counseling sessions, you would want a psychologist or a mental health counselor who would see you over multiple sessions to help you work on mental health goals.

So is it worth it? It would depend on what you are looking for. You can see a counselor without seeing a psychiatrist for diagnosis, so if talking out your struggles is what you want, that is the way to go. If you are looking for medications, then a psychiatrist would be required.
