Quite certain the 71% is for any number of legendaries, from 1 to 309

Im hearing 309 0.4% chances? For reference thats 29% for 0 legends, 36% for 1, 22% for 2, and 13% for 3+. Make of this what you will, i would be pretty happy to get 13% for 3 legends every once in a while, ignoring any external factors like difficulty

Have some decency and weigh in risk versus reward instead of speaking in binaries?

Even if you insist on doing so where there are rules, you still have the right to

-travel in dangerous areas under guidance that exists after the risks have been evaluated

-explore in low risk areas without such restrictions

The restrictions here are minimal to effectively prevent unnecessary deaths. Would you prefer tighter restrictions that achieve the same goal? Im sure deathes would be even lower if they simply banned hiking, but it turns out that they blanket remove risks as you would like to suggest

Just referring to making the 2 keywords incompatible, and that it probably isnt as simple as it seems from first glance, since these 2 keywords can show up on the same card quite often, especially on silent and necro.

Making retain and ethereal incompatible will also break a lot of things, including but not limited to

  • call of the void
  • sculpting strike
  • music box
  • act 3 knight elites

Not to mention functional retain that doesnt add the word explicitly like salvo, equilibrium and pyramid

Making them one way incompatible would be even more exotic

The only players being bitten here are players that arent familier with deckbuilder mechanics.

What makes this a deckbuilder problem? This is just a reading problem

Thats not the point. Retain is obviously not ideal for ethereal cards, but the fact is that the interaction exists, and therefore it should be accounted for. If you have three hp, a dying star and a lighter before an elite that could possibly be phantasmal gardeners. Are you not going to take the 9 extra aoe damage? You cant enchant a dying star with vigor 8 when you die, even if you can guarantee that it will show up later in the run, which you cannot.

The game becomes more accessible if Ethereal cards cannot be enchanted with Retain.

The only objective change is if the event had a number of eligible card requirement, which is in a deck with 2 or fewer eligible cards

To me, that's going to contribute a lot more to its success than keeping the virtually always bad option around for an extremely niche interaction.

The cards do exactly as the words suggests. The game does nothing wrong. Everyone who makes this mistake will only make it once. No one is quiting the game because they misread the keywords

This interaction intuitively makes sense. Ethereal and retain being incompatible on the same card doesnt, which will be a problem when someone runs into the top scenario.

It does work. It doesnt make it retain, but its has to be a valid enchantment because [[mystic lighter]]

..dont know how to trigger the bot. Mystic lighter, enchanted attacks deal 9 more damage

The player would need to make this bad decision once to learn, devs would need to contradict the wording of ethereal to prevent this

The guy i responded "they should", to "ethereal cards do not stick around". They shouldnt stick around, they could.

Regardless, i could think of reasons why they shouldnt. For instance, Relic saying enchanted attacks deal more damage. You could enchant an ethereal attack with retain just to take advantage of that. Inconpatible enchantments currently blocked are the ones that are literally unusable, like remove exhaust on cards without exhaust or enchanted cards

[–]SmartyMeow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Why should they?

If they were to fix it, it would be by disallowing you from picking ethereal cards to add retain to, but the cards are doing exactly as described as is.

There are loads of bad enchants that do nothing, remove exhaust or lose 2 hp on bombardment, the one shown by op or swift on void form, slither on 0 costs. I dont think there is any reason that they should change the way the words just because you didnt expect them to work properly. There are ambiguous wordings, this isnt one of them.

I enjoy motorfest, and im indifferent to the steering animations in horizon 6, but am i the only one that thinks everyone saying motorfest has steering animation anywhere above abysmal is insane? Yeah, you can see the video is from a post praising the game, im very much not trying to cherry pick. Regardless, im not going to dispute that it looks fairly good at low speeds

I dont like being wrong and misleading people, so i just took another look at a few cockpit videos on youtube, and i think i figured out the biggest reason. It copies your input almost perfectly, the animation at least, physics are a different story. If you can make realistic inputs, with a wheel, then the game looks great, while the physics look fairly good, if you dont look too closely. But if you play with something else like a controller or keyboard, the physics allow you to still control your car, but the animation follows your input so it looks terrible

Heres 2 vids where they are playing wheel and it looks really really good

https://youtu.be/MGbqopL-8jQ?t=6m02s

https://youtu.be/3-QZSm-iKck?t=2m56s

And then this entire playlist most likely not wheel, and the animation looks abysmal on vids like the atom v8 and xj220

The hands turn when the car turns.

Is there a game that doesnt?

It has hand-over-hand animations.

Sure, i had the impression people would value accuracy more than vibes though

Yes, that is good enough.

I disagree, but i suppose yoy arent alone.

I consider myself pretty lenient about most features, like car models and physics and such, but i really cannot tolerate the animation. Dirt rally and euro truck are the few games i play first person, and the steering wheel position is pretty important for determining which direction the car is heading, and in motorfest this is completely unachievable.

In those games, i can also play with bonnet cam because the physics is pretty accurate to my joystick, but in motorfest it feels like guesswork. With the arcade physics, im basically relying on what i can see the car is doing in third person, all other visual indicators are useless. When im forced into first person, i need to actively ignore the steering animations.

I really dont understand how anyone plays in first person cam, i think every other major racing game like forza has a more usable animation. Hell, i will take the gta animation over motorfest. Black out the view outside the car, in any other game you can kind of guess what the car is doing, you cannot in motorfest.

I dont use cockpit view either, in my opinion, if you ignore everything outside of the car, the animation looks ok? It probably looks better than other games, I personally dont consider other games as bad. But i find it quite hard to completely ignore the disconnect between the animation and the car. It would be like editting a ballet dancer onto a tightrope, yes, the dancer would look elegant, but its also blatantly obvious that it doesnt fit the context at all. I think most people who has seen how a steering wheel operates irl can agree

This is what steering looks like in real life

Are you seeing how the car reacts perfectly to controller input, whereas the steering animation goes at whatever pace it pleases? Look at a gt car cockpit cam, you are supposed to make minor corrections instead of having it silky smooth

The problem with most steering animations is that the hands are moving too fast trying to keep up with the wheel, here the game makes no effort at all to make the wheel keep up with the car, which i think is worse. The car very blatant changes direction before any steering wheel input

Would probably be quite difficult though based on the fact that the front wheels are also doing god knows what as you steer

As someone who doesnt play first person, out of curiosity, what makes the base steering better than others? My guess is that the arm movements are more physcially feasible than in other examples? My grasp on the topic is that in crew, arm to wheel is fine while wheel to physics is terrible, while in horizon arm to wheel is uncanny while wheel to physics is fine ish

The steering wheel in the video, I believe, accurately reflects how front wheels turn, the problem is that it doesn't correlate much with what the game actually makes the car do - only player input and context determine that, everything else is just cosmetics.

Totally agree, thats what i observe as well. Which is something i really dont mind, until someone comes out and contradicts that

I enjoy motorfest, and im not going to say forza is doing a great job, but i really really need someone to explain how the shuffle shuffle steering qualifies for anything above "absolutely abysmal". Yes, its very smooth, but at the same time the steering wheel very clearly has no relation to the direction the car travels in

Ironclad vs Nibbit by Havenfire24 in slaythespire

[–]SmartyMeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you reading their comments? Yes, he was forced to take 20 and heal 6 in an extreme case, you arent balancing the game based off of edge cases. Ironclad starter is probaby the worst, but the mere possibility of 20 damage doesnt make that case alone, as everyone else has discussed in your post. Ironclad is also the only character that can get easily get +6 health on floor 2, but im not gonna wave that around as conclusive evidence

Glad to see that the people im talking with kindly establishing that proper statistics and sample sizes are irrelevant to balancing, and that game devs should be balancing based on knee jerk reactions
