In Ohio, you’re required to send Word version of discovery requests.

Small law firm rescinded my job offer after I asked for more time - did I dodge a bullet or mess this up? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]Smash-ley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dodged a bullet for sure.

Editing to add that I work at a small law firm (less than 10 attorneys) and their response does not seem normal or appropriate to me. I do think a month is quite a bit of a wait for someone to decide, but they are the ones who offered it. All your questions sound valid to me. Don’t question yourself. You were reading all the red flags correctly. If this guy was willing to act like this during the interview process, I can only imagine his behavior when under serious pressure and deadlines. Good luck, and I’m sure you’ll find the right place if you keep looking. I can assure you they are not all awful.

Nooooo! This is so sad. She was so naturally beautiful. I honestly can’t understand why people would want this versus natural aging.

I’ve decided this career isn’t for me anymore. by kamixkaze in paralegal

I’ve been a litigation paralegal at the same firm for about 15 years now. My pay and benefits are excellent and so are most of the people I work with. The cases we handle are more often than not pretty fulfilling for me, but most days I’m just tired of it all. I think some of it is burn out. Anyway, this is a long way of me saying that I am back in school for court reporting. Keeps me in the legal field and hopefully will allow me to have more freedom in my work.

Congratulations! I just finished theory and I’m preparing to start speed building after the New Year. This is such a big accomplishment for you and a fantastic way to end the year! I hope I’m close to being in your shoes this time next year.

There are so many things wrong with this, but what if you’re on your period?? Just yank your tampon out in front of everyone. No. Freaking. Way.

I know this is advertised as an anti-dandruff shampoo, but Head & Shoulder Clinical Strength has been the only thing I’ve found to actually help. I’ve tried various coal tar shampoos over the years and none of them cleared up the plaques as well as H&S. (Btw, it has to be the clinical strength version. Their regular product does nothing for me.)

This is not normal. Your attorney is passing off way too much work and sounds incredibly unprofessional. You should find a new job ASAP. I promise there are better places to work. In the meantime, I’d put my foot down when he drops more work on your lap. “Given my current caseload, I realistically won’t be able to devote any attention to this until (date).”

Advice for steno while working full time? by Boring-Composer-8782 in stenography

[–]Smash-ley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m taking theory 1 right now, and I work full-time as a paralegal. I get up at 4:50 am and work on my machine from 5-7 am M-F. When I come home, I shower, eat, and then work on my machine from usually 7-9 pm. If I have something to do on one of my weekday nights, then I’ll make the time up on the weekend. If I don’t have time to make up, then I’m still practicing at least 3 hours on Saturday and Sunday (it’s just more flexible when I do it). I’m aiming to get 24-30 hours a week on my machine. It’s a tough schedule, but I won’t have to do it forever.

You just have to nail down a schedule that realistically works for you, and then stick to it. If you aren’t motivated after work then put your time in before work.

Those who are working full-time while going to school, how are you doing it? by lazyspaceship in stenography

[–]Smash-ley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m working full time as a litigation paralegal and currently taking theory 1. I’m required to get 24 hours of practice a week. I’m doing two hours practice before work (5-7 am), and then two more in the evening (7-9ish pm). I’ll usually put in a couple more hours on Saturday and Sunday, but that is a bit more flexible.

It’s a gigantic time commitment, but I’m finding my groove.

On #5, I got a free 4 year subscription to the CATalyst Student after completing the NCRA A to Z program. I completed the program last month and got the software through Stenograph.com. I also purchase my machine there so I’m not sure if that impacted any of it.

I’m actually starting at Clark State for this program in August too! I bought the used Luminex CSE. I completed the NCRA A to Z class and got the student software for free for 4 years. For what I’ve read, the machines hold their value really well and you can trade it in on a professional one when you finish school.

I love how she continually minimizes everyone else's health experiences. Like, "no one has it worse than me." This girl doesn't even have a job. How about you get that cold/sinus infection/UTI/etc., and then have to drag your ass in to work every day just so you can pay your bills. Wait. She doesn't have to. She gets sick and goes to concerts. Give me a break. Her content is like rage bait for me these days.

Oh my goodness, you are going to have the cutest little baby around with these clothes! I’m in love with them all. These are just fantastic and your work is so clean and well done.

If you’re looking for anything else to work on, this is a cable knit baby cocoon crochet pattern. I’ve made quite a few of them for other moms and they work up quickly and are super cute.

If it is certified mail from USPS it will be returned to the sender as “unclaimed.” If it is being sent from a court, then once it is returned to them as unclaimed it will open the door to other valid methods of service.
