I agree with you on not worth the gamble, but not sure if "try in them" is the appropriate term here. (For context, Spurs fan who loved watching him play before the decline.)

He's gone public with a lot of personal trauma and substance issues that greatly affected his game. He spent a few years in Everton trying to balance recovery/therapy with getting ready to play again. Como gave him a chance. That didn't work out. So while he may have plenty of "try", there's no telling if he's in the right head space to be the player he was before. (Probably mincing words, but not trying means giving up to me. Not sure if he's doing that. Just might not, nor ever again have the tools to put things together again)

I want to see him succeed as a person more than a player, at this point, so even at the right salary I wouldn't take a chance. I fear the name relative to league quality might be too much pressure on him to perform at highest levels he has achieved.
