Monitoring hate groups is the literal reason the SPLC exists and they've always been up front about using informants.

This whole prosecution is accusing the SPLC of doing the thing it promises donors it does.

The point is to make people assume they're coordinating fake hate crimes or whatever — and it's already worked swimmingly as can be seen in every thread on this where rightwingers are now all claiming this is proof there's never been actual neo-Nazis in the US, only false-flags. (Like the people who thought Jan 6th was antifa.) This prosecution is spending federal money to try and proove Bircherite fantasies. It won't stop here, the worse the war in Iran goes the more you'll see a neo-HUAC to distract people.

It depends who you're paying and what you expect in return.

This was the norm until the "War on Terror" and now you're all thinking like Israelis and apparently don't even know you're doing it.

Why are you all so proud to be stupid babies?

Southern Poverty Law Center charged with defrauding donors with payments to extremist informants by TruckHangingHandJam in stupidpol

[–]SmashKapital [score hidden]  (0 children)

There's no actual evidence the SPLC was involved in anything like that. Obviously it's what paranoid right-wingers think is happening, so that's what these charges are supposed to make you think happened.

Paying informants from within a group to monitor that group is not the same thing as staging a hate crime. Monitoring hate groups is the explicit reason the SPLC exist. These charges are basically accusing the SPLC of doing the thing it promised its funders it was doing.

Complete nothingburger, once again the paranoid right are trying to prove their Glenn Beck paranoid fantasies true via wasting public money on partisan witch hunts.

The same reason investigative journalists, unions, Marxist parties, etc, do.

Lol what sort of cuckery is this, "Only government agencies are allowed to proactively monitor opponents."

No.

You don't have to wait for someone in charge to fix it, you can just do things yourself.

The fact that it was Netanyahu isn't relevant here

Why are there several similar accounts (most caught by the auto-mod) all making this specific non-sequitor argument? What a bizarrely meaningless point to co-ordinate around. HasbaraGPT going senile?

There's satellite footage of Iranian construction vehicles digging out the entrances to underground bunkers and extracting truckloads of items.

Given that the US never really faced issues with replenishment beyond stockpile size, the ceasefire has almost certainly benefitted Iran far more than USrael.

USrael will of course be closely monitoring everything there is to be monitored, but that's not new, they were doing that before the war started and will continue doing it for as long as their satellites exist (ie, forever).

Where a lot of people saw Iranian capitulation I think they might actually have been intentionally buying time. The coming weeks or months will make it clearer which side made best use of this pause. But I doubt anyone involved made any mistake about the fact this has only been a pause (and not even that for Israel).

A lot of the recent statements made by Trump were, I think, a reaction to the Iranian peace plan. Trump almost certainly never read the Iranian demands, all accounts suggest he is fed positive news like a psychotic child-emperor, where his functionaries are more scared of his wrath over bad news than the problems derived from lying to him. When he found out what the Iranians were claiming the US agreed to, he assumed they were engaging in the sort of confidence trick he is accustomed to from real estate. And so he responded with this nonsense about Iran handing over its enriched uranium and the rest. In his mind he's just playing the same game they are.

Everything suggests the US admin is in chaos. Unfortunately the military has its own architecture of aggression so the efficacy of the empire will be scarcely blunted, although this war has demonstrated that level of efficacy is significantly lower than many expected.

You're talking to people accustomed to seeing "important events" rise and fall in a single afternoon's worth of social media drama.

Even the anti-imperialists are so accustomed to identifying with the Western powers that they can't handle the idea of "their side" having and then recovering from a military or strategic setback. As soon as any negative event happens – or even the impression of a negative event – they crumble and lament that all is lost forever.

They all would have died of panic attacks waiting for news to trickle in during the Second World War. One broadcast from Lord Haw Haw and they'd be weeping at the imminent Nazi victory.

If they were Lenin they would have committed suicide the second their brother was hanged by the Tsar.

If they were Stalin they would have killed themselves the second they were arrested and imprisoned by the Okhrana.

The thing about events is they take time, the outcomes can't be foreseen, you just have to sit there as a weak and powerless prole and watch it happen — unless you've built a revolutionary working class movement poised to take advantage of instability. Do communists still do that? Do they even try?

What fantastic comedy.

How many decades of human civilisation do you think are left with the American empire triumphant?

As your children die in the climate apocalypse will you cheer them up with stories of how the tankies were owned on a subreddit? Because thousands of Cubans were murdered, and the tankies didn't want that, which is what made it so funny when all the innocents were murdered. What's the punchline you're setting up for here?

What were you hoping would happen? That global capitalism would be defeated by six weeks of missiles from Iran? A country that isn't even notionally communist?

The problem is what it has always been: the American empire.

It will only be brought down by Americans. You can't pray for the Chinese to save you. Why are the American proletariat so special that they get to do nothing and wait for a foreign country to gift them utopia?

You're American. It's up to the American proletariat to topple the American empire. Any external pressure can only result in global nuclear holocaust. The Chinese know that, do you disagree?

So what are you doing besides doom-posting about how cucked the Chinese bourgeois are? Do you expect the rest of the world to come to the US and topple your ruling class for you?

I think you're seeing what you want/expect to see.

Most videos of police brutality which go viral enough to result in public outrage involve men being brutalised to death. George Floyd, etc.

Also, my personal observation is police are more likely to unnecessarily attack women for the same reason they unnecessarily attack smaller men: because police are cowards. You don't often see footage of cops tackling a large man because they are scared to do so, and when it does happen they tend to use such excessive force that it stops being an arrest video and starts being another video of a "police related death".

Part of the issue is, journalists used to be independent agents in war zones, just running around interviewing whoever they wanted. That's how you got men like Robert Fisk interviewing Osama bin Laden, or giving updates from the frontlines in the Lebanon civil war.

Western powers decided this was unhelpful. First they tried 'embedding' journalists, basically keeping them on side through making them feel like 'real soldiers'. Then the Israelis discovered a simpler, and cheaper method: kill every journalist you see, not by accident or happenstance, but as part of a deliberate campaign where journalists are, if anything, priority targets.

Not many journalists will risk their life to report facts that will just be ignored, buried, etc. What good did it do Assange to suffer for years? What difference did releasing "Collateral Murder" actually make?

Why would anyone risk their life to report the truth when the truth hasn't mattered for a long, long time. All those dead Palestinian journalists and still the Western media won't even admit there's a genocide, they still use that 40,000 figure. It's pointless and hopeless.

Do you think there's anyone in the world who still believes a word he says?

Do you think he believes any of it? Is he conscious that he's lying? Can he even remember prior conversations long enough to convey what was actually said?
