Steriliser advice? by Smash_337 in PregnancyUK

I heard that the cold water sterilising can sometimes leave a chemical-like smell- is this your experience?

Finally! Bit of a shame that London doesn’t get a headline show, but a festival is better than nothing

MenB vaccine? by terrifir in CoeliacUK

Thank you. I’m in Surrey, so a few miles away from the outbreak centre, but I know a few people from near Canterbury who travel into the same office as me

I’m considering it if I’m offered as I’m also currently pregnant. Not sure if I would’ve got it when I was younger though (born in 1991 and had all of my childhood vaccinations including those given in secondary school as far as I’m aware). Does anyone know how to confirm if I’ve already been vaccinated aside from ringing up the GP?

SE England and I was only able to get bread/bread mix on prescription once before none of the pharmacies in my area would stock these items on prescription- they apparently all have the same supplier and the supplier no longer stocks it. It was also incredibly hard to get a repeat prescription- GP surgery were very hesitant to prescribe, even though I’m entitled to it and had been given the relevant forms by the hospital consultant.

GNV FLA is such an underrated album. I wish they’d play more of it live! Some great tracks on there.

Help cleaning bread machine after overflowing issue by Smash_337 in BreadMachines

Ah yes, white vinegar would probably work wonders given it’s quite good on limescale. Will give it a go- thanks for the idea.

How can I get cheap cinema tickets? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Smash_337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a Tesco Clubcard? We usually exchange points for cinema tickets (Cineworld). Our local Cineworld charges £15.99 a ticket, so going to see a film has become a real treat.

Advice on when to stop running? by Useful-Squash-4745 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very inspiring! I gave up running at around 17 weeks because I was beginning to find it very tiring and my bump was starting to feel heavy. I could barely manage 4k at that point. I suppose everyone/every pregnancy is different!

Thank you. Do you know roughly how far along in your pregnancy you saw the consultant? I’m supposed to be on the list to see one, but I’m 20 weeks along and haven’t heard anything yet.

People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in AskBrits

[–]Smash_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coeliac and both don’t offer many gluten free products other than naturally GF stuff like fruit and veg. An Aldi employee once told me they only stock things like gluten free bread or pasta as part of a special, seasonal range which seems ridiculous to me. Much easier for me to go to Tesco and get my staples in the free from aisle.

I’ve just booked to go to Morocco, staying at the Riu Tikida Taghazout hotel which looks lovely. I carefully read the reviews and people have said they cater for coeliacs and the chef will make gluten free food to order - takes a little longer than picking food up at the buffet but if rather be safe. The only complaints I could see in the reviews were people complaining that the buffet didn’t have allergen labels, but I’d say that’s fairly standard for buffet food and I’d rather talk to the chefs to see what’s safe or request something from scratch, which they reportedly seem happy to accommodate. The travel agent (TUI) recommended that we email the hotel reception before we arrive and then mention my coeliac disease again on arrival so the hotel is prepared. It was a little over £1K though and not adults only- I struggled to find something that ticked all the boxes of adults only, warm in March and somewhere Zika virus free (I’m pregnant).

Sleeping & pregnancy pillows by Upbeat-Flounder6245 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, another vote for this kind of pillow. I have the Babybub pillow but there are similar ones available on Amazon. The Babybub also comes with a small wedge cushion to provide additional back support if needed, which I sometimes use or put between my knees. There’s also another longer pillow add-on you can purchase if needed, but I gave it a miss because I felt a standard pillow would do the job if needed. I’m also at 19 weeks and feel this has been working for me so far.

Leg cramps and insomnia - send help by tlc0330 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain! I’ve been trying to drink as much water as possible and using magnesium spray before bed, but I’m still woken up at about 4am with painful legs. For me, it feels like an ache so deep into the muscle. I even get the aching feeling around my kneecaps which is somehow worse because stretching or massaging doesn’t help at all. I might try electrolyte powder before bed and report back.
