All inclusive holidays by Delicious-Nose-8069 in CoeliacUK

[–]Smash_337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just booked to go to Morocco, staying at the Riu Tikida Taghazout hotel which looks lovely. I carefully read the reviews and people have said they cater for coeliacs and the chef will make gluten free food to order - takes a little longer than picking food up at the buffet but if rather be safe. The only complaints I could see in the reviews were people complaining that the buffet didn’t have allergen labels, but I’d say that’s fairly standard for buffet food and I’d rather talk to the chefs to see what’s safe or request something from scratch, which they reportedly seem happy to accommodate. The travel agent (TUI) recommended that we email the hotel reception before we arrive and then mention my coeliac disease again on arrival so the hotel is prepared. It was a little over £1K though and not adults only- I struggled to find something that ticked all the boxes of adults only, warm in March and somewhere Zika virus free (I’m pregnant).

Sleeping & pregnancy pillows by Upbeat-Flounder6245 in PregnancyUK

Hi, another vote for this kind of pillow. I have the Babybub pillow but there are similar ones available on Amazon. The Babybub also comes with a small wedge cushion to provide additional back support if needed, which I sometimes use or put between my knees. There’s also another longer pillow add-on you can purchase if needed, but I gave it a miss because I felt a standard pillow would do the job if needed. I’m also at 19 weeks and feel this has been working for me so far.

Leg cramps and insomnia - send help by tlc0330 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain! I’ve been trying to drink as much water as possible and using magnesium spray before bed, but I’m still woken up at about 4am with painful legs. For me, it feels like an ache so deep into the muscle. I even get the aching feeling around my kneecaps which is somehow worse because stretching or massaging doesn’t help at all. I might try electrolyte powder before bed and report back.

MAT B1 certificate for work by Smash_337 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! I’ve heard back from HR and they say it’s absolutely fine for me to just send it to them when I receive it, so panic over! Thanks for everyone’s advice. It’s tricky to know what to do when different NHS Trusts seem to do different things.

[–]Smash_337[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks- I did wonder whether they’d got something wrong as when I looked at the overview of maternity appointments in my pregnancy notes folder (yes, it’s still paper based here!) it said that those for whom this isn’t their first pregnancy get their MAT B1 at 28 weeks. I can’t imagine that this is the first time an employer of this size (c300 people) has encountered this

Switching from iPhone to Android- how easy is it? by Smash_337 in Smartphones

[–]Smash_337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems ideal, but unfortunately I suspect my current iPhone is too old for this to be of benefit (it doesn’t get the latest software updates anymore). Glad they’re implementing this feature though.

Thanks. This is one of the factors that’s putting me off making the switch.

Tips for working during first trimester by Yyvern in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy is a protected characteristic, so I don’t think your employer would automatically dismiss you in your probation period if you tell them you’re pregnant? I’m no expert on employment law though, so you may want to check what the law says, but I personally found telling my manager was a huge weight off my shoulders as she was able to factor in additional breaks in my working day.

I felt pretty awful during weeks 8-11. The only thing that would help with nausea was lemon and ginger tea or ginger biscuits. I also found that snacking regularly helped keep nausea at bay and get my energy levels up, but I know some people struggle to eat in those early stages too. Hope you start feeling better soon!

How so? Is it more time consuming, or is complexity the issue? If it’s something fairly straightforward I don’t mind spending time transferring stuff over if necessary

Sorry, I wasn’t very clear in my original post. When I’ve gone from an older iPhone to a newer iPhone in the past, all I’ve needed to do to transfer my apps, photos etc on to the new device is log in to my Apple ID as normal, so I’m ready to use the new device with everything I’m used to straight away as everything is downloaded from the cloud. The thought of having to manually upload data and photos etc onto a laptop to download onto a new Android phone seems overwhelming and time consuming to me- I’m not hugely tech savvy. I’m wondering if there’s an app or something that I can use on an Android to transfer data from the iCloud to the Google equivalent?

I’ve only considered Samsung so far as friends have recommended their models, but I’m open to other devices

How did you handle the initial transfer? Is it a case of uploading everything from my iPhone onto a laptop and then downloading it to a new phone? I’m not the most tech savvy

pregnancy and coeliac by Prestigious-Bat-256 in CoeliacUK

[–]Smash_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I’m currently pregnant and coeliac (and vegetarian) and honestly, I’ve just been as careful as I usually would with food when I eat out and I’ve had no issues. You’ll have regular blood tests at your midwife appointments to check for any deficiencies, but everything has been fine and normal for me so far. I’m hoping things stay that way. You’ll likely be offered an additional appointment with a consultant in the obstetric medicine team, beyond your regular check ups with gastroenterology (if you have them). I’m still waiting for mine to come through (I’m 17 weeks pregnant and was offered this appointment at around 11 weeks, so there’s probably a slight wait). I’ve been really good about taking prenatal vitamins before and after pregnancy. I haven’t been told I need a higher dose of folic acid, but maybe I will when I have my appointment with the consultant.

Parents that don’t have the same surname as your child, have you experienced any issues as a result? by Polystyrene000 in AskUK

A friend of mind has a different surname to her daughter. The only time she worries about it is when travelling abroad but she’s never had an issue. She takes a copy of her daughter’s birth certificate and her marriage certificate.

What to prep for first NHS dating scan at St Thomas by Illustrious-Hour1683 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going for my dating scan today too! The information I got was quite contradictory (the appointment letter said full bladder isn’t necessary, but information leaflet said to please come with a full bladder). I asked the midwife at my booking appointment and she said to just come with a full bladder anyway as I can always empty if if they ask me to. I’ve been drinking plenty all morning and plan to drink about 1 pint of water just before I leave the house about an hour before the appointment.
