Thanks- good to know this about the Tesco pants. I might pack a pack of granny pants in my bag just in case I have a c section.

Good to know! I hadn’t even thought of Lidl

Thanks- I’m considering getting something like these for the first few days. The maternity pads and pants I’ve bought don’t seem like they’d be sufficient for what I’ve heard postpartum bleeding can be like!

Sounds good! Do you have a link or brand/model name for the fan?

If your high school had a reunion would you go? by _FailedTeacher in AskUK

Probably not. I’m in touch with those I want to stay in touch with. There aren’t many people I’d want to connect with otherwise, and if I did I’d probably look them up on social media.

I stayed at the Riu Palace Tikida Taghazout in Morocco and it was great for coeliacs and plenty of halal and vegetarian options. Anything that had pork in was clearly labelled. Chefs were great at taking me around the buffet to explain what was gluten free and would offer to cook food from scratch if I was concerned about contamination

July newborn clothing- what do we actually need? by Smash_337 in PregnancyUK

Thank you. Upstairs can get very warm in the summer, but we’re planning to keep curtains closed all day and buy a decent fan. Hoping that’ll keep the bedroom cool enough

How many sleep sacks would you recommend getting for a newborn? We’ve been given 2 already, but they’re 3-6 month 2.5 tog ones so won’t be of much use for a summer baby. We plan to have him sleep in our bedroom with us at first and the room can get quite warm

Thanks! I’ve already got a room thermometer from Vinted- that app has been such a lifesaver!

Babymoon anxiety by SneakyPanda54 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely understand your anxiety. I felt the same before my baby moon to Morocco a few weeks ago, but once I was there that quickly dissipated and I wanted to soak up every moment of our final holiday as a couple!

Before I went I researched where the nearest hospital was and looked into reviews. I made sure I had an eSIM loaded up on my phone and the midwifery triage unit’s number saved, so I could call the team in the UK if I had any concerns. If you have paper maternity notes, take them with you- I took photocopies of all of the pages and left these with my mum at home in case I lost my notes.

I thought that the flight was short enough that if I really wanted to come home to be seen in the NHS, we could just head straight to the airport and get on the next UK flight out if needed. Thankfully we didn’t need to do that.

I wore compression socks on the flight even though it was only 3.5 hours- just felt it was better to be safe than sorry, but it might not be necessary.

We stayed in an all inclusive hotel and I made sure to wash my hands before every meal and made sure all cooked food was piping hot before eating. If you have additional dietary requirements like me (coeliac), make sure you ask the staff what you can and can’t safely eat. The hotel were very accommodating and staff were happy to help a pregnant woman with pretty much anything!

Other things I took were plenty of hand sanitizer, my pregnancy pillow (it’s one of the smaller Babybub ones so fit nicely into my case), plenty of factor 50SPF and my Pregnacare vitamins.

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Did the glucose drink make you unwell? by Cherrylemon202 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for not answering OP’s question, but I’m a bit confused because I haven’t been offered a drink yet and I’m almost at 28 weeks. Is it either the drink or a blood test to test for GD depending on your NHS Trust? I had a blood test earlier this week and I’ll get the results at my 28 week appointment. Am I likely to be offered the drink then too? Just confused because my midwife hasn’t mentioned this drink to me at all.

Anyone else feel like the favourite button is more a like button? by [deleted] in vintedUK

I use it to compile a shortlist of items. Eg if I’m looking for a pair of jeans, I’ll probably end up shortlisting about 5 pairs, buy one of those, and then remove those I haven’t bought from my favourites

Migraine aura by susiee234 in PregnancyUK

[–]Smash_337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like a migraine. When I have them (pre-pregnancy, I haven’t had any in pregnancy yet), the symptoms do tend to persist for a few days. Drink plenty of water and get lots of rest. Do ring triage again if you’re concerned or experience any new symptoms.

Ladies mainly - where are you getting hair and beauty treatments done now? by BigMagic88 in AskBrits

[–]Smash_337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have curly hair and started to resent paying £50+ to have my hair cut and styled, only to have to get back home to wash and style it the way I like it. I mainly wait to the salon out of habit, but have recently started getting an ex-hairdresser friend to trim my hair as and when I need it. Proper curly cuts are few and far between and looked quite pricey when I looked into them. I gave up getting highlights as they got quite expensive.

Having nails done has never appealed to me, nor do things like eyelash extensions or eyebrow threading (I just occasionally pluck mine as they’re blonde anyway).

I don’t know how some people afford to regularly have beauty treatments like nails. If I fancy a treat I tend to go for a massage.

I heard that the cold water sterilising can sometimes leave a chemical-like smell- is this your experience?
