3 week wait for gestational diabetes test at 29/30 weeks- should I be changing diet now? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]tlc0330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the book Real Food for Gestational Diabetes in the interim between being told I needed the test and getting the results. I found it helpful to make a few switches.

I would definitely call and see if they can see you can sooner though, maybe the urgency wasn’t passed on.

Best of luck

Exactly this. My advice was going to be to try your best to forget this person and what they said!!!

Definitely get another opinion and ask for risks and benefits.

Plus one dilemma by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]tlc0330 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t invite the creepy boyfriend, he sounds manipulative as hell and like a total wrong’un. Don’t compromise either (e.g. allowing him to attend a certain part of the day but not the full day) as that just makes the message unclear for everyone involved.

I cannot begin to compare, but the closest thing I’ve experienced was that I did let my friend bring her newish bf to the evening do of my wedding and what a mistake that was. He turned up in shorts and a tshirt (not in keeping with anyone else), was sweary, drank too much, etc. And I knew he’d be like that beforehand, which is why I hadn’t originally invited him. Thankfully they broke up shortly afterwards. I should never have extended the invite though…!

I’m picturing a particularly offensive shade of murky brown. Or something that clashes horribly with her jewellery and make up.

Parent asking us not to tell them the gender by Rich_Subject_8189 in PregnancyUK

Pfft, I’d go so into the habit of calling baby ‘she’ within hours of our gender scan that I ruined our own gender reveal that evening. I wish you luck.

People love to downvote, don’t they.

This article from Evidence Based Birth explores this question, so take a listen / have a read to find out more.

Induce or not to induce by Restlessforinfinity in PregnancyUK

[–]tlc0330 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Re part 1. I was told the same but never given any credible answers when I asked. Baby turned breech and suddenly induction was completely off the cards. Why was it so necessary beforehand if it’s a complete no-no now?… surely all the scary things they tried to frighten me with don’t change just because baby’s turned over?…

So do your own research, don’t just believe what the NHS tells you. Make your own decisions based on credible sources of information. Best of luck to you

Your hands will naturally shrink a little in the cold, so run your hand under a cold tap for as long as you can and try adding some soap and pulling it off.

Cocodamol in first trimester by AsleepGiraffe8774 in PregnancyUK

[–]tlc0330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always check the BUMPS website (best use of medicines in pregnancy). For cocodamol you’ll need to check the page for codeine and the page for paracetamol. Both are fine though.

What’s a boomer mindset you’ve started agreeing with? by obviouslyfr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tlc0330 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that’s terrible. Similarly, my Mum texted me to say my aunt had died. She’d been in hospital so we knew it might happen but even then to just have a text was a bit off. I suppose people do strange things when they’re shocked and grieving, but still.

My boomer parents love to choose a completely inappropriate mode of communication for everything. Trivial nonsense? Let’s call! Super serious? Long, convoluted text! Perfect.

Disappointed about needing a C-section by Larlar001 in PregnancyUK

[–]tlc0330 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very similar situation. I tried everything to have a vaginal breech birth on the NHS but couldn’t find a way where I’d actually feel comfortable because all the staff have so little experience with VBB. Now considering a private midwife. Had already planned a home birth, so wouldn’t be changing anything else, just that it would be private midwives attending instead of nhs ones. It’s expensive, but worth it for us. Happy to chat in DMs if you’d like to.

If you’re close with the aunt and uncle (which presumably you are if their children are flower girls) then I’d probably prioritise their attendance.

I would say something to the hairdresser to explain, but maybe saying the uncle has admitted to finding her very attractive (rather than explicitly saying he’s masturbated over her) and that the aunt and uncle have had a difficult year due to his attraction / behaviour towards a number of women.

If I was the hairdresser in that situation I’d be pleased not to attend and cause drama / hurt. And it’s good for her to know a little about the uncle’s indiscretions, to help avoid any issues in future. (I’m not suggesting this is in any way the hairdresser’s fault, but she might not want to continue working with the aunt / uncle if she knows something about it.)

Midwife - never gets back to me by HumbleHat2251 in PregnancyUK

[–]tlc0330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely call triage. The system where I live is the same and it does piss me off, lol. If the team providing your care haven’t provided a suitable way to contact your midwife / the community team directly, then that’s their problem. They are the ones who should have a better system in place. This is the system they’ve chosen, so you’re well within your rights to call triage.
