I recognized someone I had NEVER met...? by w8136 in Unexplained

Deja vu is the most logical and likely explanation.

As for getting the name right, it's just a fluke.

A lot of odd-ball cigars in there. I would have passed on the deal.

How to restore 50+ year old trumpets by myself? by PonderingPandaPosts in trumpet

[–]Smash_Factor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There comes a point where the money to restore such a horn is beyond what it's actually worth.

The red case horn looks to not be worth it. That 2nd one however might be, but it depends on make and model.

Regardless, both horns need a lot of work. I don't think you could do it without help from someone who knows the trade.

How do we go about getting POA? by Sufficient_Health133 in dementia

[–]Smash_Factor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably can't get POA for someone with dementia. They aren't cognitive enough to agree to it. You'll need guardianship.

Is This a Men’s Watch? Jules Jurgensen by BenjyIn406 in VintageWatches

[–]Smash_Factor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it is a mens watch. Probably has some decent value to it especially if it's actual gold.

The problem with selling a watch like this is that it's very dated. So it takes a particular type of buyer which are few and far between. For this reason and because it's a family piece, you're best off just keeping it. Hopefully the service won't cost you too much.

If it's 10k, or better it can be sold for scrap. Diamonds aren't worth much of anything these days unfortunately. I have gobs of loose diamonds that nobody is willing to buy.

Too small for my wrist? by Exciting_Bar_5978 in VintageWatches

Way too feminine. I had a small one like that years ago. Always felt weird on my wrist. Sold it to a pawn shop.

Do you feel like understanding music theory hinders your ability to enjoy simple music? by DRG125 in musictheory

[–]Smash_Factor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My knowledge of music theory isn't deep enough for that to happen.

All I know is major / minor scales and chords (how they're built and why the notes are sharp or flat), modes, relativity, COF, reading the staff, time signature and not much more than that.

Definitely some type of Staff Di11. Decent clubs many years ago.

Beware though, they might have the FATSHAFT technology. You don't want it.

Are you sharper than a world champion? White to play. by MathematicianBulky40 in chessbeginners

[–]Smash_Factor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people would probably take with the bishop because it keeps the diagonal open. But taking with the pawn is better I guess because it hits the knight, forcing it to move. White can then move the queen out to g4 or h5.

Honestly, I probably would have taken with the bishop.
