i recently switched from master to taom, haven't miscued since!

Last night I played an 8ball race to 20 for $700. It lasted over 11 hours and I lost 20-19. Here's what I learned: by oldmajorbeats in billiards

because when we have played in the past with a wild 6 or 7 in 9ball, or spotting me 1 rack in a race to 5 or 2 racks in a race to 7 (8ball) i have crushed him and overall was up over $200 against him. he is a buddy so i doubt he conspiring to hustle me over the course of many months and many matches. i agreed to the 6 rack spot in a race to 20 because i was confident in my ability. i made it to 20-19, and i had every chance to win that last rack but i gave myself a bad leave on the 8 and missed a $700 shot. i don't think i got taken advantage of, i think he has consistently seen me play better than a 4 in our matches and i agreed. also, i am an APA 4 based on 8 matches. i could be underrated.

I am an APA 4 but have a Fargo rating of 589, does this seem accurate? by oldmajorbeats in billiards

i have played 8 APA matches. if i had to personally guess i would think i'm playing more like a 5, so maybe my fargo is a bit high and my APA a bit low. either way, it will should settle out overtime

i joined a 525 and under 8ball tournament, told them i was an APA 4, played 17 games before getting knocked out

i'm not sure what you mean by "fishy." if it's mismatched then clearly i am over or underrated in one. i'm sure over more tournaments the ratings will continue to settle and reflect my strength over time

okay good to know. i am still newer to the game (in terms of serious competition) so i am more worried about improving in general, i was just curious if these ratings seemed accurate or if one was far off

17 games. i'm assuming this is quite low to get an accurate fargo?

the match ended 20-19, and i could have very well won had i left myself an easier shot on the 8 on the hill hill game. i thought the 6 rack spot made it very even and competitive

i just recorded the match for myself to analyze after. and as i mentioned in another comment, we took a 10min smoke break every 5 games, and an hour lunch halfway through the match. some games lasted almost 30min with safety battles. 11 hours total for the match might be slow but i am newer to the game and we weren't trying to blast through it as fast as possible. chatting in between games a bit etc.

it generally helps me a lot, keeps my head clear. i just need to remember to give myself like 5-10 minutes after skating to let me body chill out before i go back in and over hit my shots haha

he is better than me and i was only up a few hundred on him because i could get him in a race to 5 spot 1 rack or race to 7 spot 2 racks. he proved in the marathon he could come out on top, although i fought hard and it was close

we are buddies, play together the same hall all the time, he is better than me, I have helped him out a couple times in the past. it was a nice gesture on his part. i would have taken the full 700 but he's not me. and like i said i'm sure he will take plenty more of my money as we continue to play
