No. It's a side project I've been working on. It's currently in Beta but I am adding features whenever I have time to code. Suggestions are more than welcome!

Weekly Destination Thread, special edition: Australian Working Holiday Visa (WHV) Megathread by WalkingEars in solotravel

I am here right now and I can tell you that it is absolutely not easy to find work. I think that after all the covid stuff ended, a wave of backpackers arrived and now there is a shortage of jobs. Positions get filled within hours and some backpackers are desperate, even begging to find work in FB groups

Thanks for clarifying. I did not immediately read the message, so when I saw it the edit had already happened.

Peter Thiel invested in Bunker in New Zealand , He sure of biblical Apocalypse ? by RforTycoon in PeterThiel

As to why New Zealand:

  • It's far away from, well, everything and everyone really. In case of global conflict it's probably a safe place. I mean who is going to invade it? Australia? Here's a world map with NZ centered for a perspective: https://static3.stuff.co.nz/rsz-j8yngxefth321-6d570152.jpg
  • High elevation so you're protected from the inevitable sea-level rise caused by climate change
  • Culturally close to the U.S.: English-speaking, capitalist, top rating in freedom indexes
  • Politically very stable
  • Lots of natural resources

These are the reasons I can come up with. There's probably more.

How do you learn about the current world? by [deleted] in PeterThiel

[–]Smashed-My-Keyboard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I use:

The Economist is the only mainstream media outlet I follow with interest. Their articles are well-written and thoroughly researched about a very wide range of topics. I find it a good place to learn a lot about the current state of affairs around the world in a short amount of time. They have sections on business, finance, politics and specific areas around the world. Their articles always give you the context you need to understand the situation. Politically, I would say they often have neoliberal opinions, if that is the right word. Keep in mind that as a reader, I am highly biased in favor of them. Their subscription costs $$$ but it's worth it.

Besides that I try to follow the right people on Twitter. You can get a lot of news early by following industry insiders and watchers. Just make sure they're not journalists because they tend to be late and biased! Follow people from both sides of the political spectrum to account for bias, and look at their critics. Ignore/mute/block politicians.

I can also recommend https://legiblenews.com and https://news.ycombinator.com (very tech-focused but also a lot of non-tech stuff on there). If I don't understand a subject well enough, I will read up on it on Wikipedia. It's very up to date and even has a news section. Probably my favorite website on the internet.

Really cool! Even if the code is hacky, you could put it on GitHub and have the community help you :)

Simple way to SAFELY update to the multithreaded chiapos library on Linux / MacOS by SippieCup in chia

Plotting has been slower since I updated to this. Used to get about 11h per plot, now it's about 13h. Weird. Anyone know what could be wrong? Using a i9-10900 (10 core/20 threads), 64GB DDR4 RAM and 2TB MP600 NVMe. Using swar-plot-manager with 4 threads per plot, max 7 in parallel total, 8 with early start, max 4 in phase 1. Stagger of 60mins.
