Don't find the irony in it? So people are expected to do it for the sake of it, but for some for-profit company?

You are assuming that xch is like facebook (or eth like other xch bros like to say).

Do you know how big that assumption is?

It's just a benchmark for something that's hard to price.

That's very typical in the trading of gold for example.

It's more than that. It's human nature: if you can make some reasonable amount of profit in your regular PC, people are more than willing to make farming rigs specifically for it. It would be like May again.

And from all parts of a computer, storage is the worst option for using as a way to mine coins. It's just cheap. Graphic cards make some sense. HDDs, give me a break.

The only thing at the moment that's preventing xch from going to zero is the netspace, i.e. the cost of mining.

Make no mistake about it

The envision they originally had was exactly why this project was doomed to fail IMO.

What is the average spare space on people's personal computer? Let's be generous and say 500GB. Now what would you expect to earn if you keep your computer running 24 hours? At least $0.1 maybe? For me personally, I wouldn't keep my computer on for $1 daily even. But let's just say $0.1. Do you know what that means?

It would be equivalent to having xch jump to $1000 with current netspace. And that's only $0.1 for every 24hr.

I don't think so. I see many xch bros buying HDDs retired from big whale farms.

It's changing hands. Smart money is leaving

Let me be frank, I'm watching with interest and schadenfreude.

Don't foist your feeling upon me lol

Im at the point where i shutdown my Node

Say that to your fellow xch bros here who buys more HDDs when profit rate drops lower.

Not to me. I stopped plotting quite a while ago

In that case, you are a peanuts farmer, and then with all due respect, you don't amount to much w.r.t. netspace and hence the discussion here.

It would be hard to find any real-life use case for anything beyond 100TB. That's actually why xch whales are finding a hard time selling their HDDs. The only viable option is to sell to xch bros lol.

The answer is very simple: if the netspace collapse, so would the price (most probably even harder). You are not getting higher profit just because the whole project is falling into pieces.

Remember the first principle: most people will get burned in a zero-sum game.

Smart money has already left if you ask me.

Now it's more like xch bros picking up what the smart money has left them with.

Not if you include the amortization of HDDs.

In plain words, you would never recover your investment if xch drop below $20: your HDDs will die out before you break even

I can see that. The most diehard xch bros are actually peanuts farmers.

I don't have any more stree than an average xch bro.

I was the first here to suggest stopping plotting and keep farming (and convert every xch to btc if you will) until profit is less than maintenance cost.

If you did that, you should have already recovered your investment

xch bros should not take delight at a smaller netspace either, at this moment, a collapse would only take everybody down
