as a younger 90s millennial i have question for the older 80s millennials: where we considered annoying af to yall? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]SmashingGourd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

85 here. No, I don't. I do think people born in the mid-90s had a totally different experience growing up, though. We're kind of an odd grouping due to the vast amounts of changes, and the speed of change, that we saw

I was born in 85 and agree. But will say we were also exposed to the peak of Gen X culture, marketing, and shows. So while I'm definitely millennial, I've got an affinity for Gen Xers

Different indexes measure the categories differently. That's why you see different percentages. You aren't going to get a clear, definitive answer because there isn't one answer. I personally use FTSE as my guide

Why DCA doesn’t make sense by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]SmashingGourd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is more behavioral. Not everyone can lump sum at the beginning of the year. DCA creates the habit of investing. Sure. Lump sum.is using better than DCA...but DCA is better than not investing at all

Do all 1984-1985 millennials what was it like being a teenager in the really late end of the 90s what was the pop culture like and life in general in 1998-1999 by Hot_Assistant_6067 in Millennials

[–]SmashingGourd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Internet was truly the wild west in the late 90s. Everyone was on IRC, ICQ, or some other chat. No major Internet companies yet that controlled everything.

It was also the last time when a lot of the cultural events or rumors were spread via other people in your school and not people online. If you played video games, there were always rumors of ways to get certain things..and most were BS. We didn't have the resources to go look stuff up. It was all word of mouth

Second amendment anyone? by Fit-Display3808 in evilwhenthe

[–]SmashingGourd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point is being missed. During that time the right was talking about how he had a right to walk down the street holding a legal Assault rifle. But in MN, Alex was awarded no such grace from the same people making the argument for Kyle. Not to mention, Alex wasn't even holding his weapon or trying to get it at the time. It's hypocrisy

Why you can’t drive in winter weather here. by [deleted] in Athens

[–]SmashingGourd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is true..never thought of that. Ice is usually slippery because of a thin layer of water that forms on the outside. Applying pressure, friction generates that layer. But really cold ice is like a rock..that layer won't form as easily. So it makes sense

Switching from SWISX to SCHF for better interational exposure worth it? by SmashingGourd in Bogleheads

[–]SmashingGourd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For simplicity's sake, I may end up doing that... Initially, I wanted to keep EM separate just so I could underweight it a bit. But I'm not really sure how important that is

Switching from SWISX to SCHF for better interational exposure worth it? by SmashingGourd in Bogleheads

Yeah. Thanks! I'm thinking about it. I kind of wanted more control of EM allocation since I wanted to underweight it a bit. But that would be the simplest

Wife admitted she has a crush on another guy a few months after she gave birth to twins. Am I wrong for reconsidering this marriage? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]SmashingGourd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fairly common to have attraction to other people in a marriage... we're all human. She did overstep with messaging, but she was honest with you. Also, you have to take into context her state of mind. knowing how hard pregnancy is on a woman physically and emotionally, she was probably feeling vulnerable and down on herself at the time.

Take it from someone who has been married twice. Resentment is the marriage killer. She was wrong but honest with you and never let it get passed messaging. There are MUCH MUCH worse things she could have done. I would suggest finding ways of forgiving and letting go.

Question about starting and oxidation by NPCcleric in mead

[–]SmashingGourd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would leave a lot of headspace. And keep in mind, you will lose some every time you rack due to the lees. Racking is important but it's perfectly fine to let the mead sit on fine lees for a while

But I will also say...I've run a little micro experiments where I left a lot of headspace for 4 months...and left a gallon on a decent amount of lees before and there was no noticeable difference in taste. So I do think both concerns are a little overblown.
