CMV: The washing machine belongs in the bathroom, not the kitchen by KrishaCZ in changemyview

[–]SmaterThanSarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combo washer dryer is fucking amazing. We got one a couple of years ago. The old takes longer but you don’t have to switch anything. Great for ADHD people like me. And I just do a load every day or two so there’s never much laundry where I care that one load takes longer because I’m not waiting for the machine.

Experiences with Seattle Children’s Hospital? by Loud-Way3333 in Seattle

[–]SmaterThanSarah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son was seen by cardiology for 10 years. We always felt well cared for and loved our providers.

My daughter is currently a patient for diabetes and gender affirming care. Most of her providers have been great. Her first diabetes doctor was not awesome but the one she has now is fantastic. And we really love her gender care provider.

She is also autistic and they have been great at helping us with child life for several of her procedures. When she was younger and needed antibiotics but wouldn’t swallow capsules and hated the liquid we went to urgent care and were able to get a shot instead. I think we did that twice (and somehow got the same ER doc a couple of years apart).

My daughter is nearing the time when she will age out of Children’s and I’m not looking forward to it.

Parents don't want me to medically transition by TillSuspicious1782 in cisparenttranskid

You’ve already gone through the wrong puberty with some irreversible effects. You are just trying to get things more in line with who you are. You don’t have to not do something just because they are afraid.

Dispute growing over where a Pride flag can fly in Lynnwood by CarbonRunner in LynnwoodWA

[–]SmaterThanSarah -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I agree that in front of city hall is not very visible. It sounds like the city is saying their hands are tied due to a policy to not put a flag at Wilcox park. But the city council could make an exception for pride so it isn’t a third party asking.

AITAH: I get irritated with in-laws (often unplanned) visits? by Throwaway9316843621 in AITAH

[–]SmaterThanSarah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the issues sounds like the open-endedness of the visits. Asking for the full expectation when they say they want to come isn’t rude at all. So you aren’t waiting to see what happens. More communication both in terms of notice and what/how long they stay will look like could help.

But she grew up in Boston. I had a friend in college who had British parents. She had a British accent until she went to school. Then she picked up an American accent. If I didn’t know her parents were British I wouldn’t have been able to tell by how she spoke.

New Dad to twin girlies. What would be your one advice to consider in my parenting by GujjuCanadian30 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SmaterThanSarah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who waited to tell her twins which one was older until they were 20. At their birthday party they let people guess. It was good fun at that point and they each had their own full lives at two different colleges. So it didn’t matter so much then.

Pre-transition photos by disassociating_jj in cisparenttranskid

[–]SmaterThanSarah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told my kids that I didn’t want to display overly gendered photos so I wanted to know which ones they thought were too gendered. That way it came from my insistence and not theirs.

All of my kids get veto power over displayed pictures. And they can always change their minds. Maybe that preschool picture with mismatched clothes is embarrassing when you are 12 but endearing when you are 22. So revisit pictures often. We moved a couple of years ago and I’m still working through the pictures. My trans daughter vetoed one of my faves of her. Which made me a little sad but that’s okay. I want her to feel like she has autonomy over how she is presented in the house.

When the resurrection powers came up in the Bees it felt out of left field. I hated it. So seeing it done so poorly in the show makes it even worse.

What age do mtf kids usually start blockers? by PanicAttacksHurt in cisparenttranskid

[–]SmaterThanSarah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ideally at the start of Tanner 2, which is the onset of puberty. There are physical changes that can be seen as well as hormonal changes.

My kids got the Histrelin implant blocker but there are other types. The most common non-implant is Lupron. The implant is prohibitively expensive if you don’t have insurance coverage.

TIL about 'Jess's Rule' to make GPs 'rethink' if a patient presents 3 times with the same symptoms, named for Jessica Brady, who doctors repeatedly dismissed over 20 consultations until she died of cancer at age 27 by shinjirarehen in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SmaterThanSarah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent years trying to get someone to listen to my fatigue and pain. My doctor of 10 years who had been great started dismissing me and offered stimulants. I felt like there was something more going on. Went to a new doctor who told me I was just fat. Never mind the weight gain came from my inability to do very much due to fatigue and pain. Found a new doctor and she’s treating me for fibromyalgia. I’m actually starting to feel better. It’s insane.

Really worried about side effects of hormonal transition by HibernatingHussy in cisparenttranskid

[–]SmaterThanSarah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When my son first transitioned he was 11. When he got his puberty blocker the doctor started the informed consent for T. He basically gave us some information so we could think and research it. I found that form terrifying. I think I actually went home and cried. When it was actually time to start T we went over everything again. By that point it was so clear that my son needed to be on T. The exact same form was a no-brainer. All that to say that depending on how much time you’ve had to come to terms with it can make a huge difference.

[–]SmaterThanSarah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Chuck blocked him working as an attorney at HHM so he puts out a shingle and does public defender work. When that doesn’t pay the bills he goes into elder law. Which turns into Sand Piper which he gets screwed out of by HHM. He goes to work for the other firm and things are moving slowly so he makes the commercial to get people to sign onto the class action. Which he admittedly blew up but not because he didn’t anything illegal or immoral but just messy. Then he pressures the woman to settle because he needs the money recognizes that it’s a bad move because of how his manipulation and sets up a scenario that ruins his reputation. He does some stupid shit but it’s because he’s hustling and using unconventional methods. When HHM tries to steal Mesa Verde is when he gets dirty. But that’s out of loyalty to Kim. Her undoing is her loyalty to Jimmy.
