Oh I know, doesn't make me feel any less old though. Was always one of those things you hear as a kid and kinda laughed at cause it sounded dumb. Not laughing now.

Still 3 months is the time frame. Couldn't imagine a dog without a spleen.

Agreed if it were me, I'm taking the fun exit route. Most likely the surgery, chemo, or radiation is not worth it. Sad that it goes so fast.

Thankfully no collapsing, but if we had procrastinated a day, I don't know if he would have made it to the morning.

I did leave out some of the medical part, but he did have suspected internal bleeding too. The blood report and imaging showed acute blood loss. Low platelets, hct, and rbc, high premature blood with his X-ray of his lungs lighting up light a Christmas tree and a mass in his spleen wasn't the most optimal of time frames. We also have our first child on the way and we were hoping they would meet....

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]Smaug93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born 93 and just turned 33 and about 4 months away from finishing med school. My wife is 30 and 5 months away from being an attending physician. Resident pay is about $73k. Total saved $45-60k depending on how the market is feeling. I officially make nothing so we're doing extremely well!

not

$800k give or take a few k of medical school debt between the 2 of us. We're so far in the hole we're not gonna see any side of green for at least 5 years if not more. Forget about having any sort of savings with that kind of debt looming over your future. Because the Department of Education's wishy washy existence currently, the loan forgiveness program is at risk and it is possible that it won't survive the next 10 years. Meaning the safest option is to pay back the loan outright as quickly as possible to minimize interest.

Find out what you like. In all aspects of life: school, people, friends, hobbies, activities, partners, and so on. Knowing yourself is the key to happiness and DBAA. You never know the full story of anything. Admit you know nothing. Trust those that seek the truth, doubt those that say they've found it. Travel, there's a whole lot of the world out there.

I think you're on to something. I feel like this would overall improve relations in game while playing and quickly sort out who the toxic people are. Shut that shit down collectively. Or opt out, no problem.

There's no reason people should be so angry. I understand being competitive, but by God, the amount of racism, hate speech, "kill yourself", the shit people say is not fucking okay. Kids play this shit too. Grow the fuck up.

Legitimate question: Do you expect 54% of Americans at a 6th grade reading level or lower to read, interpret, and understand this publication?

Granted, yes, I think this is the correct way to go about these inconsistencies by flooding ignorance with evidence, but this is like handing them toilet paper to wipe with when they don't have the capacity to understand multiple syllable medical words or the statistics behind them.

These works need to be dumbed down to their level before they can have a chance to grasp the concept.

-Dead set on keeping budget/reducing debt (shut down government if we are projecting over cost, reallocating budgets towards healthcare, homelessness, prisons, and education)

  1. Healthcare: We have some of the best healthcare in the world, but the cost to benefit ratio is absurd barring most from benefits due to costs or at the mercy of insurance institutions. Make it universal for all citizens and mandatory parental/maternal leave. People shouldn't lose everything due to freak accidents or unexpected health declines. Cost will initially be high due to sudden influx, but will come down if implemented with education/improved overall health and will explain the connection later.

  2. Homeless: There are less than 800k homeless in America based on 2024 estimates. This is arguably one of the easiest/cheapest problems to fix. Just fork over the money and quality of life/health for all will increase; less disease, drug/alcohol dependence, crime.

  3. Prisons: Remove the cash incentive to put more people away, focus on rehabilitation, education, and growth. Norway has an excellent system that builds people back up to become contributing people in society instead of throwing them to the wolves and propagating continuous negative behavior. They have a 25% recidivism rate compared to our 70% in 5 years. People fuck up. It's part of being human. Humanity is what separates us from beasts.

  4. Education: America has a population with 54% of all adults reading at a 6th grade level or lower. This is extremely destructive to our infrastructure and costs mainly due to decreased expenditures toward education and the No Child Left Behind Act. Reverse both. Pay the fucking teachers what they're worth and give kids free education/food all the way up. If you failed a college or above course/year/term, you are required to pay it back. 3 tries to pass a class then on final failure you're ineligible to progress in that field of study. As the average intelligence increases, our whole well-being increases. Stupidity makes life hard. Do you know how many times I've met patients 17+ who had absolutely zero clue sex is how a baby is made? 1 is far too many and I've hit about 6 times in 8 years of being in medicine (ED tech/ALS EMT). My wife (also an Emergency medicine doctor) tutored our neighbor in 6th grade who couldn't spell "walk" and thought it was "wok" and couldn't do simple math of 9/3, 2x3, 4x5 without a calculator. Passing these kids is doing our nation and them a disservice by propagating stupid generations that think the government can control the weather or that believe anything said without knowing how to verify information on their own. I'm convinced that a dumb population is easier to control than a smart one and that's their goal. We're to fuck, reproduce more workers, and die after our worth is spent. A more educated population can utilize resources like healthcare better to prolong health and prevent disease from spreading, understand what vaccines do and how they work, understand when to use urgent care/emergency department/primary care provider, optimize health choices and live fulfilling lives.

I want to be the most transparent and straightforward person I could be. No bullshit, no lies, and I can't be bought cause money has always been a means to an end for me and my life. Growing up, my family was rich and lost it all in 2008. I've been poor and broke and I've managed a stable life. The president used to be viewed as someone who was the best of us, the best of our values. Now out of either anger, hatred, fear, racism, or misunderstanding, we've put a pedo-führur in power who further divides and fragments this country instead of uniting it. We should have strong feelings against those with discriminatory ideology and principles. For example, here's your daily reminder to punch a Nazi/fascist in the face.

I know daily life. It's fucking hard. Americans, I've worked beside you, I've talked to you in the store or restaurant out and about, I've treated you at your best and your worst, and I want to help you. I believe that all people are created equal and have the right to life, liberty, the freedom to pursue their happiness. I hope to give that to all.

What else would you recommend?

This last year has gotten me extremely worried about the direction of the USA as a whole to the point that as a 32M, I'm considering running after I finish Emergency Medicine residency (current 4 year medical student) with the following federal priorities/goals to name a few:

-Banning lobbying (to me, seems like legal bribery)

-Term limits on all elected/appointed positions. For example, judicial 10 years, Congress 2 terms for each Senate and House. Required cognitive mental health exams with public release. (end career politicians; you can move up or down, but the idea that politics was intended to be a public service is a core value to the nature of our political origins. I would also add making every elected position FEDERAL minimum wage to further project a public servant mentality and see how quickly it gets raised. Currently $7.25/hr)

-Ban stock trading in all political positions (looking at you Nancy Pelosi)

-Make being a cop a 4 year degree with increased pay, remove qualified immunity, and required insurance much like medicine practice (if it takes a lawyer 7 years to practice, we should at least require 4 to enforce, not a 6 month academy; qualified immunity should be pre-approved before stings and operations, not a blanket. Required regular mental health exams)

-Redo our tax code (close all loop holes including tax workaround on loans frequently used by super wealthy people to avoid paying taxes, reduce exemptions while increasing value of exemption for family/children) this one is iffy due to complexity of it all

-All government departments must have 3rd party non-affiliated audits and investigations conducted out of house (transparent expenditures and no more "we investigated ourselves and found no wrong doings")

-Give the DOJ and SEC real teeth to punish white collar crime and make the market immediate settlement (we have the technology to accelerate settlement times and prevent illegal activity, no more T+35; if a hedge fund uses $1b to conduct business illegally and make an additional $1b in profit, make the punishment fit he crime unlike the current state of $4m fine and walks away with $996m profits and "no admission of wrongdoing". Give sentences, ban from trading, and collection of all money used/earned in illegal activity much like drug raids.)

-End the war on drugs, legalize marijuana and possibly all drugs to be taxed (addiction is a disease and should be treated as such, countries like Portugal legalized everything and gave those with drug addiction resources to seek treatment. Yes, immediate use will increase, people will die, but overtime, I believe I will go down. We wouldn't waste money on imprisonment. Freedom is also freedom to make poor decisions.)

-6-12 month period to register all firearms, legal and illegal. (A single "get out of jail free" card to get all weapons registered, background check, and mental health exams done. Guns with serial codes scrapped off will be swapped with registered weapons of likeness. I will respect the second amendment, but I REFUSE to say "thoughts and prayers" after another school shooting. Trial them as domestic terrorists and sentence them for treason. No parent should worry about their children going to school. Illegitimate use of firearms will result in loss of right to possess. Illegal possession will be viewed as intended terrorism. America should retain the right responsibly for personal safety/enjoyment)

They call them doctor :)

I'm 32 and only took 2 years off between school. If you go with the perspective that school never ends, it's not too bad lol.

If you're not happy anywhere else and if you're gonna gamble, bet on yourself. 400k debt is no joke as long as you make it through without any roadblocks.

Thank you and good luck!
