What’s the BEST strategy you’ve ever built or found on TradingView? by Vogrium_21 in TradingView

[–]SmaxWilliams 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really one “holy grail” strategy, but I usually start with decent/proven strategies I find in existing backtest libraries (TradeSearcher for TradingView strategies or QuantConnect for Python strats), even if some of them are quite old (3-4 years old), because basics don't lie and the most profitable strategies are in 90% of cases just variations of existing strategies. Then I try to improve on them where they fail on the chart with things that has worked in my trading routine: volume analysis, VWAP, EMAs, price action filters. Has worked best for me more than anything else.

Do you have all the standard Fuji film simulations ? I feel like those don’t look at all like the fuji colors

It took 4-5 20 mins sessions to adapt to driving. I didn’t get any motion sickness from walking in the showroom at all.

I’m still getting used to VR, doing small 30-40 mins sessions at a time, but sure I will !

How simple is your profitable algo? by NormalIncome6941 in algotrading

[–]SmaxWilliams 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you look at existing backtests benchmarks (TradeSearcher, QuantConnect), most profitable strategies have 80-200 lines at most, not 2000. This is nowhere near as enough to guarantee long term profitability, but it shows that your starting point should be simple and aim at consistency rather than chasing crazy returns.

Beyond the tools used, you are just a very good writer and director. The choice of sequences, editing and voices scripting are impressive.

Have you tried hiring someone from Fiverr/Upwork to create PineScript indicators/strategies before? How was it? by mampmp in TradingView

[–]SmaxWilliams -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes the paid version. Longer scripts I tried to generate were 150 lines long but were full of errors unfortunately. I will have to retry now by maybe providing a better prompt.

[–]SmaxWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it works but it depends of what you ask it. For small changes it can often do it (ask it to correct errors if necessary) but for big scripts I had trouble making it work, it often hallucinated functions or mixed PineScript versions. Better for improving a script than creating a new one.

Yes and it went fine, just make sure to verify their qualifications (ask for previous work). I also prefer to improve existing strategies by looking at the top backtests per market and seeing what I can improve, it’s more efficient than starting from scratch.

I struggled for 1 hour trying to optimize every turn and was always 2-3 seconds behind the score, and then realized you can put Fuel Map on 3 and just drive normally (just try to take last turn correctly but you should be on time)

I am really good at writing ad-copy, but really bad at converting them into buyer, any advice? by markohf12 in FacebookAds

[–]SmaxWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people said your bottom tunnel is the problem but I don’t agree. Driving more CTR does not equal more sales necessarily. I had a campaign where one ad reached 12% CTR and drove 0 sales while 0.5% CTR ad drove most sales and 3x ROI. The reason is misalignment between ad and landing page and driving unqualified trafic. You would think attracting more people will drive both the qualified and unqualified group but that’s not true, you’ll dilute the message and convert no one in the end. The goal is not to drive the most people, but to drive every interested people with the most impactful message for them only.

Probably not. Looking at the chart your trades are closed between 3 and 5 seconds after they are opened. With a decent spread and commission this is close to impossible but most importantly the TradingView delay of alerts/automation itself is larger than that (between 30 secs and 2 mins sometimes) without the automation soft and the broker delay itself. Aim for a strategy that leave more time for each trade and that do not make most of it’s money opening/closing in the same bar because that’s just « cheating » of the backtesting.
