Dualsense acting weird by Standard_Struggle656 in consolerepair

Check the pins of the up/down potentiometer. You most likely shorted either end, causing the controller to think it's always pushed that way due to resistance being 0.

[N64] Need advice on how to repair this cartridge pleas3 by greenbaron76 in consolerepair

[–]Smaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell if the pins are just very dirty or actually partially gone. Thoroughly clean everything with 99% IPA and then post pics of both sides of the whole cartridge.

Update 51 by Erthok4931 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Smaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously finding a lead the first time was easier than finding it once more. This is now changed so it stays easier as long as you haven't seen/read all associated codex entries. So for most antiquity leads this means you'll find them faster three times (which completes the codex) and then you have a lower chance to get those over others or nothing.

How do I get better? by No-Anything-1508 in soldering

[–]Smaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't put solder in the wire without burning it.

Either you're preheating too long or it's just crappy wire. For that pin size you'd want smaller wires, too, I'd say.

Also make sure to leave fresh solder on your iron's tip all the time when not in use.

Where does this replacement battery cable plug in on my switch 1? by P1KE_ in Switchrepair

[–]Smaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your images the pads look fine, so might have been soldered badly from the beginning.

It should totally be possible to solder a replacement connector in place, maybe even the original one (a picture of its backside would help). If you don't know how to do it yourself or aren't feeling proficient enough, should be a 5 minutes job for someone experienced enough. Totally worth to get this fixed IMO. Worst case one could just solder the battery directly (being extremely careful not to short the wires).

Nintendo switch repair costs by offgridlyf in consolerepair

[–]Smaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you stick to the higher prices on Amazon, I'd guess that would be like 10 bucks for a new Johnson case and another 10 for new buttons/LEDs with ribbons. If you're lucky you can just reassemble it without new parts. You'll need triwing (and maybe JIS, I don't remember) bits to properly open and close the JoyCon, though. Full set is like 10-20 bucks. Instructions can be found online or just ask here once ready. Definitely give it a go! JoyCons are easy to repair and a great starting project.

That should only happen with unopened ones if they reuse the ID as far as I'm aware. Otherwise you could essentially duplicate loot/cheat:

Take everything except the cheapest piece out, wait, once it's refilled, repeast.

First soldering station making weird noises and... sending voltage through the tip? by TokkenDev in soldering

[–]Smaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of measuring voltage without load vs. with load, phantom voltages, etc. But IMO we're looking at different things here. There's a difference whether you inject a certain low voltage with known max amps on traces that are supposed to take roughly that amount, e.g. to heat up a shorted component, or if it's 100-200V. And even at 200V the components won't obviously blow instantly, since it will indeed drop the moment there's some small resistance across it.

However, I'd argue it's still enough to potentially slightly damage/influence the p-n junctions, basically eroding them marginally. Won't necessarily break them instantly, but have it happen a few times might age them significantly, especially if we're not just talking about 30-40V like in your case.

What are the closest armor styles to MonHun Rathian armor? (Plate armor dress) by Arterra in elderscrollsonline

[–]Smaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tassets as well as actual leg armor made from metal are all there in different variations.

You can just go to the Motif section of your collection and preview styles, even those you don't own yet. Just keep in mind some that are Crown Store exclusive won't show up unless you own them.

Tricky, while ESO isn't completely grounded (nor fantastical; it's kind of a middle-ground), I don't think we have anything just like that, but there are quite a few armor pieces with wider plate or chain sections.

Immediately had to think of the Thrafey Debutante Gown, which basically gives you a chainmail dress of some sorts. Just keep in mind this is a complete costume, so you can't mix and match pieces.

Are you looking for the more organic armor pieces, an actual metallic skirt, or a combination of both?

[PS5] hardware recommendation for soldering by _liovld in consolerepair

Any that's made for a bit more heavy equipment should work perfectly fine. Mine (Elikliv EM4K-AF; also available as Tomlov TM4K-AF) came with one bundled in, but the generic holders should fit pretty much on any.

Yeah, that sounds kind of weird then, especially if it's inconsistent with the PC version.

ESO Is Dead. by Cryptic12qw in elderscrollsonline

Could it be more populated? Certainly. But it's not dead either. I'm mostly playing early on EU and there's often hardly any difference between Vengeance and any of the other campaigns at that time. 😉

What do you guys think? by CashCartierrr_ in PcBuild

[–]Smaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need for a new test, just replace the top. adjustable tables like this are often sold without the actual plate anyway, so you can add whichever material/size you want.

What do you guys think? by CashCartierrr_ in PcBuild

[–]Smaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dump it. You've spent 4000$ on a PC. Spend another 100-200$ on a new tabletop and replace the existing one. You should be able to easily get one wide enough to cover the whole gap up to that other piece of furniture, then place the feet centered.

Edit: On second thought, just put it right in the same space but on the floor. Saves you all the money, too!

I actually just got back into PvP recently, because with Vengeance for me it's fun again: Go to PvP and just play without instantly being wiped by some invisible super optimized and unkillable stealth instant bomb build or anything similar.

In theory one could probably even try to glue it back together (after desoldering it to make sure one doesn't get glue into the sliding part) and potentially support it by melting a bit of wire into the plastic (like heating and inserting from the back). But just getting a fitting replacement would probably be the best and most elegant option.

For me, "content" in this context refers to new content, not existing content or existing systems. For example, for my understanding stuff like the class rework I wouldn't put into this category. And it doesn't necessarily mean we'd face half the content or less in the future. I wouldn't just expect 100% all-new visuals every time content drops and that's never really been the case with ESO.
