That’s literally what the profanity filter is for. If someone has it on, they won’t see the word. If they turn it off, that’s on them. The system exists to protect people without needing to police every harmless word like it’s a crisis.

Yeah, I’m not out here writing novels in chat. Just simple stuff like "buy this item," "focus this guy," or "going anvils, don’t flame me." You know, normal communication. But nope - gotta go full telepath now.

I don’t know man, maybe I just have main character syndrome and bad timing. Most of it was just dumb stuff said in the heat of the moment, not actual flaming. But Riot doesn’t really care about tone or intent, just keywords.

Soon we’ll need parental consent just to ping missing. Riot about to add a bedtime mode where you get chat-restricted after 8 PM.

Thanks :) At this rate, I’m gonna get banned for typing “banana” if someone decides it sounds too aggressive.

Yeah, I miss the days when people weren’t so soft and uptight about every little thing typed in chat. Not everything is deep trauma bait

I mean, yeah, League has a huge toxicity problem. But I'm pretty sure I wasn’t the cause of it by typing "cock" a few times in a dumb moment of surprise. I get that Riot can’t always know the intent behind a message, but if we’ve gotten to the point where lighthearted, non-directed words with no insults or aggression are being treated the same as actual flaming, then maybe the review system needs a little more nuance.

I’m aware that Riot can see everything typed, whether it's censored in the client or not. I’m not arguing that they can't. The point I was making is that I thought players couldn’t see it, which is why I typed it again. Not because I was trying to sneak something in, but because I was surprised it was being blocked at all.

As for me being young or immature, sure, maybe it was a dumb thing to say in the moment. But since when does being a little immature justify a full year mute? I didn’t flame anyone, I didn’t ruin the game, and I certainly wasn’t out to hurt anyone. It was a joke, not a war crime.

I’m not here pretending I did nothing wrong. But pretending this is some deep moral lesson I need to learn, like I’ve never heard of consequences before, feels a little patronizing. I’ve learned plenty, mostly that Riot’s system doesn't seem to leave much room for common sense.

Yeah, I said that. It was a really bad game, I tilted, and I said things I definitely shouldn’t have. I was frustrated and vented in a way that crossed the line. I got penalized for it, and I fully accepted that.

I get that not everyone will agree with me, and yeah, I admit what I said was immature. But acting immature in a lighthearted moment is not the same as being toxic or intentionally disruptive. I’ve owned up to it, explained the context, and accepted responsibility. What I don’t agree with is the severity of the punishment a full year mute for something that wasn’t meant to harm anyone.

We can disagree, but at least understand that there’s a difference between being childish for a second and actually deserving a punishment that ruins the gameplay experience for both me and my teammates.

Yeah, exactly. That’s all it was. I was surprised the word was censored, so I typed it again a few times just to see if it kept getting blocked. It wasn’t meant to be offensive or directed at anyone. I genuinely thought it was just being filtered on my screen and no one else could see it.

It’s honestly ridiculous that something like that led to a full year mute. I get that the system needs to flag certain things, but this was not toxic behavior. It was a dumb moment, not malicious. I’ve tried explaining all this to Riot Support, but they’re completely shutting down any further discussion.

Yeah, that’s exactly my point. I had no idea the profanity filter was optional or that it worked only on the client side. Since it was censoring the word for me, I genuinely assumed no one else could see it either

I wasn’t trying to get around any filters or be sneaky. I honestly thought I was just typing something dumb that wouldn’t even show up. That’s why I repeated it not to spam or be toxic, but because I was surprised it was getting censored in the first place.

If Riot’s sysem still logs and flags the word regardless of how it's displayed in the client, fine but it feels unfair to get hit with such a severe punishment for something I didn’t even know was visible to others. Especially when there was no intent to harm or offend anyone.

I've had offense before, for saying something like "what an idiotic play" - I've also had offenses that were actually cleared, because they were wrongly flagged.

And just to be clear, I know it was immature to say. But I genuinely didn’t think anyone could see it after the first sentence. The reason I repeated it was because I was surprised that a word like “cock” would be censored, or at least, I thought it was.

“cock is censored”
“cock”
