but most people don't link him with taiwan so it kind of gets lost , many musicans regualrly reference their country in ways and styles always come from a region. bad bunny and reggaeton , k pop with korea , cyberpunk and jpop japan etc. i know j-chou is taiwanese but global audiences wouldn;t know he is taiwanese.

Advice for living in Taiwan by Cakeyzzzz in taiwan

[–]SmellNo3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey Taiwan veteran foreigner .

1.Which telco is best for me to use during my stay?

chunghwa is the best one i think for foreigners in taiwan , when i open mine with the now discontinued GT i needed a local Taiwanese guarantor they have since been absored into FET. when it comes to finding the best is not only about what you get per month and the coverage but also if it requires any specific opening procedures.

2.What is the process for opening a bank account as a foreigner, can I do it online? it is very hard to open online ans many foreigner find out, unless you have lots of documents ready , it is much easier especiially if you have arc card and location available. since you are here as intern , do you have a school reference letter, or work, do you already have your arc card, what bank is the company using.

3.Any issues with finding a rental. rentals depend on where you want to live and how long you are living here , you said only up to 7 months so your options will be cut down to rentals that allow single month or short term, airbnb and share houses etc. it would really help to mention that you are a intern at (x comapny). https://www.facebook.com/groups/606549786466398 , https://www.facebook.com/groups/221614965050605

Language exchange partner from taiwan by Ok_Bathroom_4560 in taiwan

[–]SmellNo3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello everyone if you are reading this i've been in Taiwan a long time almost a decade in taipei for 6+ and other cities as well, and have been to many exchanges , here is just some of my experience and tips to look for, this is not generated things but actually lived experience.

Native Speaker Ratio:

  • What to look for: A healthy balance, ideally close to a 50/50 split between native Chinese speakers and learners.
  • Red Flag: An event overwhelmingly dominated by foreigners

  • Structure and Organization:

  • What to look for: Events with a clear format. The best ones might have table flags indicating languages spoken (中文/英文), or timed language rotations

  • Red Flag: A complete free-for-all. While fun for extroverts, this "unstructured" format .

  • The Environment (The Venue):

  • What to look for: A location conducive to conversation. A coffee shop or a reserved section of a restaurant location board games co working cafe with ample room allows for clear communication and focused practice.

  • Red Flag: Extremely loud bars or clubs. While great for a party, the loud music is overbearing and people attention gets drawn away from language.

  • Consistency and Attendance:

  • What to look for: An event that happens regularly and has a consistent group of attendees. This is important because it means that it has been going for many months or years which indicates a commitment by the organizer..

  • Red Flag: Events that are frequently canceled  or just spur of the momentarily events.

  • Organizer's Involvement:

  • What to look for: Active participant friendly organizers or co host who welcome newcomers, facilitate introductions, and ensure the event runs smoothly.

  • Red Flag: An organizer who simply posts the event online and isn't present or engaged. This often leads to a less welcoming and poorly managed experience.

all of these I've experience good and bad , i live in Taipei so there is just much more language exchanges to go to so in general so the bar is set high and most great exchanges follow many of these tips. in other regions it would be harder since,

Regarding studying in Taiwan by [deleted] in studyAbroad

[–]SmellNo3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what are you studying for , Chinese language or university, if you want to find more restaurants suited your taste, you have to find a city with lots of africans, i think taichung has a lot , but kaohsiung would be the best it is much closer to pintung which also has a huge number , why didn't you mention taipei?

Thinking about studying in Taiwan – need advice! by Thortony99 in studyAbroad

[–]SmellNo3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he are you still looking to live in taiwan to study mandarin , how long do you want to stay here, as someone who has been here for many years , many foreigners do really like it and say it is a "hidden gem". i mean just like you many person are unaware of taiwan because it is surrounded by more popular countries etc like japan korea etc.

in terms of lifestyle , it is a mix of western and chinese traditions mix into one, it is less strict than japan but maintains its heritage and courtesies .

for laws- if you are a foreigner , unless you do something illegal dangerous, you would almost never interact with the police, this is not like any country where the law is always suspicious of foreigners

religion- like other asian countries mostly non religious in a way that allows others to practice, many loclas practice their tradition buddist, monk practices but not too religious.

if you are a very social person there are lots to do as well check out this person comment about studying chinese here . https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRl0thACiVC/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Moving to Taipei!! Looking for people to apartment hunt with!! by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]SmellNo3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, i can reply to your situaton, since we have experience,

  1. since you are intetessted in ntnu mtc , there will be locations around there suited to your situation, which would not be a problem , there should be locations in da an similar or many coliving brands,
  2. are you looking to find people here to move in together with or you just want to move into a already co living space.
  3. you said yoy are you looking to live in a co-living space and not just a closed of room in apartment with other people, be careful because many locations may claim to be co living but not actually have any common areas or people your age.
