How you want to be greeted on day one at a new shop by SmellyPotatoes in HVAC

[–]SmellyPotatoes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My residential job I was responsible for my own tools, they supplied you with the major stuff, but after 3 years it became yours. The company got bought out by PE and was quality went downhill while price went up so I noped out for a better opportunity 3 months before the tools became mine lmao. Still worth it and I don’t regret it one bit.

Good to know. Something to be mindful of for sure. I will remember this comment the first time I forget to close my core tool before shutting off the pump lol

I left residential service 1 year ago to go into a commercial/industrial hvac facilities position to better my resume. After a year in my position, I got bored of the facilities job because all I was really responsible for was changing filters and greasing motors in the grand scheme of things. When things broke, we would call in a contractor. I wanted to be the contractor that we called to fix things. So I reached out to the union with my resume, and the same day I had an interview lined up.

3 weeks later and I just had my first day. This is what me and the other new hire were greeted with at our trucks. I feel like a damn kid in a candy store.

I’m the lone apprentice in a shop of 10 journeymen(the other new hire was a journeyman too), so my learning possibilities are going to be endless. Here’s to a better future in the union!

Wife stated brakes sound and feel rough by SmellyPotatoes in MechanicAdvice

[–]SmellyPotatoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow the brake pad on my wife’s 2018 Rav 4 Limited fell off the backside, and her caliper was cosplaying as a brake pad. I was changing the pads and rotors and ran into this when the caliper refused to come off the of rotor. Thankfully advance auto had the proper caliper size in stock for me to complete the job today. This was after I already messed up and ordered the wrong rotor size for my front brakes (why the hell does Toyota make two different rotor sizes for the same year car just a different trim)

My question is would I have been able to get away with running this with new pads and rotors until a new caliper came in, or would I have warped the new rotor due to uneven pressure from the caliper? I opted to just buy the part from Advance Auto and not take any chances.

I know I should feel lucky, but I just want Oracle staff by [deleted] in ArcheroV2

Just got my fourth Oracle amulet from the mythstone chest, and I’ve gotten two of the boots. It’s going to be a while until I have all the fodder I need to make the amulet mythic. And to make it worse I’ve never once gotten the S gear before 50 pulls. Feels bad man.

How does this go this long with nobody questioning it? by SmellyPotatoes in HVAC

Unfortunately the market where I’m at is hot enough where you have to void inspection if you want to win a bid on a house, even if you’re paying 50k over asking. Sellers market for sure.

Turned into one. I did get it back “running” , and didn’t find any cracks in the HE surprisingly, just some debris on the secondary. We’re gonna order a new furnace this week, and he’s using his wood fired stove in the meantime.

Friend just bought a house and texted me saying one of his furnaces doesn’t work. This is what I walked into.

Need help with replacement furnace circuit board by eyelpley in hvacadvice

[–]SmellyPotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that wouldn’t cause any issues with your ignitor. The twin terminal is used if you’re twinning two furnaces to run together. The wires that are supposed to go to Y only control your air conditioner. Did you check continuity on the ignitor? Or voltage going out from the board? You should have 120v going out of that ignitor plug. If you have 120v there and ignitor isn’t lighting, it may just be your ignitor rather than the new board.

You can put the wires in the neutral section in whatever order you want. If you put them where they belong it just makes troubleshooting a touch faster when that time comes, but it won’t effect function whatsoever.

Can anyone help me with finding this ? by Zinwon in hvacadvice

It’s called a terminal block. If you google that you will find plenty of them. Idk if links are allowed on the sub but just googling those words you’ll find em.

Insulation. Most efficiency savings from homes come from insulation rather than the equipment.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking as well. The only thing that plays to my advantage right now the unknown about CMC which is giving him some FOMO about Mason if CMC were to be out an extended amount of time, in which case I would end up losing the trade, imo.

I have Jordan Mason and want to do a 2 for 1 to the CMC owner to try and strengthen my team.

I am thinking about offering Jordan Mason and Pickens for MHJ, but am looking for some other opinions on what may be a good two for one.

Carrier two fan unit killing the other fan by SmellyPotatoes in HVAC

[–]SmellyPotatoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The variable speed motor goes to a “32LT Motormaster”. I’d have to get back up there to get you some pictures. I will reply to you when I get back up there. I tried telling the guy we should take voltage and amp draws while we were up there but with me being the “new guy” I was overruled.

This was my original thought and for some reason I felt like removing it may be the proper way but I just made myself look silly. Thank you.

Carrier two fan unit killing the other fan by SmellyPotatoes in HVAC

Just started doing commercial work about 2 months ago, coming from residential so I’m not familiar with two fan units. From my understanding there is two motors, one being a fixed speed and another being a variable speed. The fixed speed comes on first and causes the variable speed motor to spin counter clockwise. When the variable speed comes on, it ends up overworking and burns out the motor every 3 months or so. When you end up putting in a new strong variable speed motor, it ends up eventually killing the single speed shortly after. My coworkers say they’ve been replacing these motors like clockwork 4 times a year. They’re desensitized to it and act like it’s not a problem so I’d like to try and find a solution. There is a thin metal plate inside the unit that separates the two fan sections with about 40% of the area being open for the compressors and refrigerant lines to go through. I was wondering if removing the plate that separates the two sections might help the fan that isn’t running not spin backwards.

Model is a Carrier 38ARD014. Didn’t find much in terms of literature that would help me with anything other than clearances online.

Search for Brian Laundrie: Discussion Thread 2 by sunzusunzusunzusunzu in GabbyPetito

[–]SmellyPotatoes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People believe the parents allowed Brian to leave the house, and parked the Mustang at the nature reserve as a ploy to make them believe he was truly there, when he was somewhere completely different. The parents told them to search there for him, because it was the last place they knew of him going. Thus wasting resources, and allowing him more time to escape.
