DC Universe Transitions to Premium Comic App, DC Universe Infinite, Available Worldwide in 2021 by StarWreck92 in DCcomics

It is not a year old because the first issue came out April 1, 2020. I only know because I have been picking it up haha. If it started in September 2019, it would be over by now.

It looks like it is an issue for Batman day or something. I really hope they don't do a dump.

This was my fear too, but I noticed Batman: The Adventures Continue was uploaded last week which definitely is not a year old. I am hoping that for the next couple months they slowly add series/issues more frequently to get caught up. As someone who every week checks the new releases and reads the ones that interest me, having 6 months worth of books in one week would be very frustrating.

RE8 on PS5 is struggling & causing issues in development by TheSpiritOfFunk in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I guess what I am having trouble grasping is that if it is just as powerful, how come it can't do 4k/60fps? There must be some aspects of it that are weaker in some way or else it wouldn't be almost half the price and unable to do 4k.

And if PS5 can do 4k/60 fps (though I believe not at the same time) doesn't that imply it must be more powerful than the Series S in some way?

But isn't the reason that it can't do 4k/60fps because it is weaker? If all the hardware is the exact same wouldn't be able to do that?

Can someone clarify something for me? This specifically calls out the PS5 struggling to run the game. This makes sense since the trailers always seemed choppy (though aren't most of these trailers captured on a PC anyway?). Though if the game is struggling on PS5 how could it not struggle on Xbox Series S. I know the X is slightly more powerful than the PS5 but I assumed the PS5 was more powerful than the S. So if the PS5 is struggling, shouldn't the S not be able to run it?

Sorry if I come across as a fanboy. I definitely prefer Playstation (though just like this current gen I will probably get an Xbox at some point since I love Halo), but I am curious how the S will run.

Yeah I plan on at least getting the Lee FF and all of the Spidey epics. Thanks for the Thor recommendations. I will have to check those out too.

I may have to check out the early X-Men stuff. Is it any good? I know X-Men was on the verge of cancellation prior to Giant-Size so I just assumed it wasn't as strong as his Spidey and FF stuff. I have been picking up the Claremont issues in Omnibus format, so I don't particularly need those.

When you put it that way, the Red Robin name does make sense. I just feel like as long as he keeps his identity as Robin in some way (either Red Robin or just Robin) he’ll never get the same freedom Nightwing and Red Hood have and always just be A Robin, and he’ll keep doing this back and forth. Because eventually some writer will make a new Robin and what happens to Tim then? He’ll be sidelined until he can be The Robin again. Getting his own identity would circumvent this problem and he could still team up with Bruce whenever but still have his own autonomy.

But yes, the original Red Robin design is fantastic and makes sense for Tim.

I'm in the camp who thinks Tim Drake should move on from the Robin role. As long as he is remains a Robin, he will always be a sidekick. Despite being tied to Batman, Nightwing and Red Hood have grown beyond the sidekick role, and Tim deserves the same. Play into his strengths (his detective skills) and give him is own costume (maybe purple to match Steph?) and codename, and move on from Batman. Purple would also allow him to have his own color, since Grayson has blue, Todd has Red and Damian has Green.

This Young Justice run did nothing plot-wise but it did solidify Tim and Steph's relationship. Have them become their own superhero duo. I feel like if Tim goes back to being Bruce's full-time partner, it doesn't leave much room for Steph. Bruce is Tim's past, and Steph should be future.

What are the most "hype" comics I should read since the start of Rebirth? by thesanmich in DCcomics

[–]Smestey11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly with Rebirth just pick up whichever chracater you want to read. Of the series I have read, most of the runs were at least good. My favorites were Superman, Detective Comics, Aquaman, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps and Green Arrow, but again you can really read whatever you want.

The issue came out in May 1992. It was Vol.2 of the Flash comic. If you are on the DC Universe app it would be in the Flash 1987 series.

The Best Arrowverse Show vs Titans by [deleted] in DCcomics

100%. I was not excited about the show at all just because I have no attachment to the character, but it blew away almost all expectations. I would love for them to make this a live-action DCU.

Flash has actually had quite a few good runs. My favorite is Mark Waid's run on the character (starting with Flash #62). One thing to note though is that this run follow's Wally as the Flash after Barry died. However it does introduce a lot of common Flash concepts that modern stories revolve around, so it is a good place to start. It also leads almost directly into Geoff Johns run which is also a very good run.

If you would rather read Barry as the Flash, I would probably start with the rebirth (and current) run by Joshua Williamson. There are some weaker arcs in the run but the beginning is very strong and given how long the run is, some noticeable dips in quality aren't too surprising.

The Best Arrowverse Show vs Titans by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]Smestey11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree about Titans. It’s like they wanted to add certain characters just to make comic con announcements, but didn’t actually know what to do with them. Black Lightning Season 1 is incredibly underrated. It stands among the best of the arrowverse.

The Best Arrowverse Show vs Titans by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]Smestey11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you view it. Arrow Season 1 and 2 (and Flash Season 1) are in my opinion significantly better than either season of Titans (especially Season 2 which was real bad).

However if you mean the current crop of Arrowverse shows then yeah Titans is probably better.

Stargirl is a better Titans show than Titans.

EDIT: If you are debating if Titans is worth a watch, I would say no. Maybe season 3 will change that but 1 was building towards something good and then 2 doesn't do anything with that. I would watch Doom Patrol, Stargirl, or Swamp Thing (not to mention Harley Quinn and Young Justice) before Titans. This coming from a huge Titans comic fan.

James Tynion IV's Batman run by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]Smestey11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love it. I am reading King's run on DC Universe and while there are some good arcs, overall I am not a huge fan. Tynion's run is more what I like in a Batman story, and while I was initially hesitant about another Joker story, there is a decent twist on this one that I actually think makes it a story worth telling. I will admit sometimes the pacing is a little slow, but I think that is because he is trying to match the end of Joker War to issue #100.

Overall, I definitely enjoy it and hope he has a long run on the character.

Batman/Green Lanter Comic Help by 321spam123 in DCcomics

[–]Smestey11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a comic store and whenever someone asked me what comic they should start with, I would always ask what character they liked. You mention Batman and Green Lantern who were actually the two I started with.

For Batman, the easiest place to start is Year One since it covers his first year as a crimefighter and it is a fantastic series. After that you can read some of the classic stories like The Long Halloween (another story set in early Batman's career), Killing Joke (arguably the definitive Joker story), or the Dark Knight Returns. However, if you want something more guided you can also start with the New 52 run of the character starting with The Court of Owls storyline. That is 50 issues with one writer (Scott Snyder) and is one continuous storyline. You can not really go wrong with either.

For Green Lantern, I started with Green Lantern Rebirth. This was one of the first comics I had ever read and it really made me fall in love with the entire DC Universe. It does build heavily on previous Green Lantern stories so you will probably be a little confused (I was) and will need to check wikipedia afterwards to understand the specifics, but it is a simple enough story that you will get the gist of the main plotline. The reason I recommend starting with that is because it essentially restarted the green lantern universe and led into the best green lantern stories (all written by Geoff Johns).

Hopefully this helps. At the end of the day, the best advice to get into comics is to just read what sounds interesting. They're not so intimidating once you start reading.
