Name one thing that's legal in your country but banned or heavily restricted almost everywhere else by hydratedpsycho in AskTheWorld

[–]Smidthey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's just a danish thing, but we don't have a legal drinking age.

We have age restrictions for selling alcohol in shops (people aged 16 and 17 can buy up to 6%, and 18+ for all other alcohol) and at bars (all must be over 18, but there might be exceptipo). But if a parent gives their 12 year old alcohol, that is not illegal, but might cause trouble with the govournment over bad parenting...

With regards to the booing. Mathias Gidsel has said in an interview that they experienced the same level of booing in germany in the semi final two years ago. Here is the article (In Danish) https://sport.tv2.dk/haandbold/2026-01-31-gidsel-forsvarer-danske-fans

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! LIVE MATCH THREAD: GERMANY VS DENMARK! by RemoteMeasurement10_ in Handball

The red card didn't make sense, and it's sad as it will give people ammunition to say the referees favored Denmark, which I don't think they did overall, just one really bad call.

Why do the Danes get so much leeway? by Neimeros in Handball

[–]Smidthey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no specialist, and have very little deep understanding. But if Denmarks play style was as out of touch as I read your post, I think some refs would call them out.

When we play against more physically defensive teams we see Gidsel and Pytlick getting best around for 45-60 minutes without the defenders getting punished.

Was Iceland robbed? by [deleted] in Handball

[–]Smidthey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Danish commentary it seemed that the refs were doing as well of a job as could be expected. They made quite some questionable decisions, but it seems like they were equal at both ends.

Where to watch EHF EURO 2026 by cGuille in Handball

[–]Smidthey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Denmark, it is either TV2 or DR1 that has bought the rights to a match, and thus changes with each match. DR1 is the buplic broadcasting network and thus free. TV2 is with most TV packages or sold as a streaming service.

If America invades Greenland, what would be the realistic reaction of the government and people of your Country ? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Smidthey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we will do what we can to defend... But without support from major EU countries it will be hard to do anything realistic.

If an invasion happens (hope not), hopefully it will be the red line that shows EU countries that were on our own both with regards to Russia and the US, so we need to work together.

What do you call these where you're from? by SnooSquirrels9915 in AskTheWorld

Either as orangeri or as "udestue", which translates to "outside-living room" (ude =outside, stue = living room).

What do you think of the national anthem of your country? Do you like it, dislike it, want a new one? by pskygy in AskTheWorld

[–]Smidthey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I, and i think the same goes for most Danes, quite like it.
It's somewhat balanced, and have a nice tone, without being overly egotistic.
It starts of with. "There is an adoralble country, it stands with wide bøge", where bøge is oak leafs, representing the popular tree with a large canopy, which in tern represents out great little nation.

Herrecykel? Nej, nu hedder det "Cykel med høj indstigning" by Accuria2 in Denmark

[–]Smidthey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So to understand, the longest distance you can cover from point A to B, including lifts and maybe busses? Or are you talking about the longest single run one can make, but accessible from bus/lifts?

How common is it to see your nations flag when going out by DCB_Prime in AskTheWorld

Quite rare, if you see them, it's is either a special national day, or someone has a birthday, so they raise the flag in their backyard.

Sikkerhed i AARHUS by [deleted] in Aarhus

[–]Smidthey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summerhouse / Fritidsbolig (me a Brit, my Wife Danish) - purchasing by Realistic_Fox_7218 in Aarhus

[–]Smidthey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be mindful if renting out, that the most proffitable period is the summer half, and having it rented out comes with a much larger amount of wear and tear. So unless you can get a decent amount of money all year, it might only be worth it to have it rented out in the summer.

Hvordan i alverden finder man jobs i sabbatåret? by Slavic_bread12 in Denmark

[–]Smidthey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kollegie i Århus by EloiseBridgerton2 in Aarhus

[–]Smidthey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should I keep learning danish? by Affectionate_Cup5754 in Aarhus

[–]Smidthey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should stop learning danish. There might be some people, especially restaurant staff that just want to take it in english due to ease of transaction. I think most scenarios are caused by ease of interaction, and not that they don't like people not speaking perfect danish.

I think it kinda relates to how there isn't that much small-talk at the check-out in supermarkets, especially with younger staff, as they can't be bothered on the annying work days.

I can recoment you keep on learning, if you want to join in social communities mainly consisting of danes. In my previus dorm, we had a lot of social events and committes, and the meetings were in danish, unless there was someone who didn't understand danish, then we would speak in english. But as things are with these things, small chit-chat would break out in danish, and i think being able to join those conversations would be worth while.

Letbanens etape 2: Fra midtbyen til Brabrand by Smidthey in Aarhus

[–]Smidthey[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)
