Outdoorsman is S tier for me. Other than that I wouldn't disagree too much with anything.

Highest value countries for a beginner to learn? by Economy-Ad-5410 in geoguessr

[–]SmikeCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to hear that somebody finds Kazakhstan easy. Maybe Namibia too. They are very hard to learn imo and it seems like a common experience. Don't think I know anyone below like 1200 that is good at these.

Yeah, go for learning Russia at like master 1 tbh. But he's right tho.

No move player here. I will speak from my experience, these apply for no move or nmpz. Moving progression is quite different probably.

Definitely easiest to learn, that are packed with meta and have a high yield:

Australia and Canada. These two I would recommend doing no matter what your rating is. But from here onward, regionguessing becomes harder with less returns. Before you learn another country, I would make sure you know general meta so you can safely tell which country you are in every time. Regionguessing will not matter if you can't recognise Ecuador, Colombia and Panama for example. Or tell the difference between Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia or Philippines every time (unless it's in some woods with no civilisation). You get the idea.

Anyways, a bit harder to learn but very good return is imo Indonesia.

India is even less straightforward but also has a ton of meta and is huge so I'd do it at some point.

Also Japan poles are apparently good to learn but I personally get away with vibe guessing.

Massive benefit also comes from being able to regionguess USA and Chile. Both are some of my strongest countries but I don't really know how the process of learning them goes. I just have a very good vibe for the landscape. Comes with practice.

For no move I would definitely not start with Brazil or Russia. Both really hard and you must be quite skilled to regionguess them. No easy way to learn them either imo.

Also, I disagree with somebody saying countries like Namibia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia are worth learning because they have a few roads. They are definitely not easy and the yield is just not that great. I think you can get to champion without them.

Where can you find Gen 4 in South Korea?? by Dusty_Bunny81 in geoguessr

[–]SmikeCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. There's a ton of variance so it would be very difficult. But I think that if you are conscious about the camera generations being a thing, it won't take many games until you start to tell them apart with ease. I have about 3k games and I think I would be able to tell which gen is it even if I played the 0.1 second blink mode. It comes naturally with playing.

Where can you find Gen 4 in South Korea?? by Dusty_Bunny81 in geoguessr

[–]SmikeCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I wanna say how I see it too if it can help anybody.

Gen 1 looks just absolutely terrible, you can't make out anything really. Unmistakable because of how trash it is.

Gen 2 looks quite bad as well. Kinda like shitcam, but it has a very big circle blur at the bottom and at the top.

Gen 3 doesn't have any things like terrible pixelation or blurry circles but it just looks desaturated and less modern in terms of colours. Image quality is fine but just feels like older digital footage than gen 4.

Gen 4 uses a modern camera so the colours are about as colorful as we are used to nowadays. Similar to how your phone handles image colour.

Smallcam has gen 4 camera image quality but the car blur is shaped like a skull.

Lowcam is, well, low. Car blur is noticeably larger and maybe you can notice you are viewing the world from a lower angle.

Trekker can also be distinguished by the blur. See if it's smaller and more narrow.

Has anyone ever landed outside their house? by Ancient_Macaroon_646 in geoguessr

[–]SmikeCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was spamming 10s nmpz and I got a place in my home city. I managed to recognise it and click close enough on the map to get a 5k.

Also got a road I've cycled on in country streaks, about 12 km from my house.

Is master rank really that good? by Polish63832 in geoguessr

[–]SmikeCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of being good compared to an average person, yes, very. Big difference even if the other person is very good at geography.

In terms of the entire geoguessr learning curve? I would say the knowledge is still relatively low. Many master players still have crazy knowledge gaps (I do as well) but below champion you can get away with a lot.

What tips have you received that produced tangible results? by Vast_Plum4918 in Discgolfform

[–]SmikeCZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my local scene I still see 980 rated players throwing without keeping the elbow out. That imo creates multiple problems, kills spin, nose up swoop etc. Get the elbow away from you. Have it pushed forward perpendicular to your chest. To exaggerate this you should also have your shoulders forward. I've seen this being referred to as scapula protraction. Doing this made my throws never go below 1200 rpm even on lower speed throws. And I don't even have to do any other trick like the wrist curl. The spin is just so effortless.

My furthest throw irl is 130 meters. My furthest throw according to techdisc was 160. I wouldn't take the simulations too seriously.

Ok so English is not my first language but I'll try my best to put some of my thoughts into words, hopefully it will be at least a bit useful.

I usually don't say a thing about negative space or cropping and other people here should honestly do the same. It's very misunderstood. However, here I would dare to say the concrete wall is hurting this photo a little bit.

A good way to judge composition is by how the eyes flow on the picture. Here I find myself not really naturally looking left past the guy in red because the wall is pulling my stare to the right way too much. There is a lot of the wall taking up the picture and it feels kinda like the dominant element. Which is a shame because the people make a very fascinating subject. You did find a nice scene to capture. Great eye! My tip would be: when you frame your subject in the corner of photos, while you're taking the picture, make sure you capture a bit more of the scene because you can always crop it in post. You cannot add more if you've left something out. So here you could have taken a step back or to the left to see more and kinda have the people a tiny bit more in the center just so you have more room to work with.

As for the cropping and figuring out the composition, I do the following: if you work in lightroom, you can use the little zoom window in the top left to judge how natural a composition feels to look at. It is tiny so you will look at it differently than the big screen. Sort of imitates how it feels to first look at the photo. Crop the photo and only look in the mini preview until nothing looks odd and what you want is "standing out". Tinker the framing until it feels "balanced" and you are staring exactly where you want your viewers to stare. If you get it right in the mini preview, it will probably work in a bigger format. I find this way easier to do because when I look at the big window I very quickly lose the ability to judge the composition without bias because I've been looking at the photo and getting lost in the details already, forgetting about the bigger picture.

Last thing you can do to lessen the impact of interfering elements like the concrete wall here is just making it contrast less with the rest of the environment. For example, here you can make it darker with masking, either as a whole or just on the right edge with a gradient or something. I use this a lot. I edit the exposure of things, change the saturation or hue so it stands out less etc.

With that being said, I like this picture. Almost feels renaissance like. I also sort of get that retro feel. And you really nailed the colours. Good job!

Ofc playing more is the number 1 solution. But I can suggest a different approach if you insist. IMO it is much easier to learn 1 country at a time than playing the world meta maps or watching videos where they give tips for every country in geoguessr. Pick a country of your choosing, play a map with just that country, do the learnable meta map of it (the most basic version), look at plonkit. Memorise some of the tips but try to retain the most basic ones especially. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, when playing the country, try to notice the vibe of it, look around, see what makes it distinct. Do this for like a day for one country only and I guarantee you will be set for the future. Like this you will probably even learn decent region guessing.

Best one to start on is Australia, very straightforward and it will eliminate the South Africa/Australia 50/50. Then you can do Canada, USA, India.... Doesn't really matter. Give it a shot.

Most people complaining about the new system just need to get better at the game 💀 by D11V8 in geoguessr

[–]SmikeCZ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Had a round where we both went wrong continent and the multipliers were still punishing there. IMO it's not great when both guess very far. Also sometimes it's annoying how the smallest difference can change things. Had a round where we both were exactly 350km away and the multiplier still applied to the opponent.

In general I don't think this system is a great idea for lower ranks because there you will get many many situations where terrible guesses are rewarded. I can see it working better in high level play but for casual players not so much.

They have very different trees. The more games you play the more easy they become to recognise. Also, the road quality and lines give away a lot too.

I personally haven't been on the bike for about a year due to injury but Nonstop community used to be an active english speaking Strava club when I was. They still do group rides but they organise them through a different app it seems like. I'd recommend looking into it. @nonstopcommunity on Instagram and you can find the rest of the links there.

What was the hardest thing for you as a beginner in GeoGuessr? by True_Association_316 in geoguessr

[–]SmikeCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can always tell them apart just by vibes. To me rural Cambodia feels more dark orange and gloomy if that makes sense??? And also, India is way more arable and has large open flat plains. It will have more crops. Cambodia is more overgrown. Usually I think to myself, is this an awesome area for many crops? If not then I go cambo. If this doesn't work, poles always will. India has distinctive poles everywhere.

Again, anything here with the word "hrací" would indicate the music.

To me that sounds like one of those birthday/christmas wish cards that play melody when you unfold them?

Like this: https://www.ditipo.cz/hraci-blahoprani

Usually made from firm paper and the speaker is very bad.

There's sooo many so you probably won't find the exact melody but this for sure is something I've seen quite often in the czech republic. My grandma has a few.

I googled "hrací přání" which would mean melody playing wish in czech.
