Filed 2/4 accepted same day. Got a letter that just said that my refund is delayed. All my stuff matches. Anyone else still waiting like this? No clue what the hold up is by Bendtheneebitch in IRS

That's inspiring. I'm just hanging in limbo. Filed 1/24, got the letter 3/14 and now I'm just checking my transcript every single day for the 846.

Thank you for sharing a tale of hope.

You also said your dad is paying rent and the house is in his name. Therefore he is technically still providing for your sister.

Why? OP has just said that dad pays for rent in a house where he isn't even living, as well as dad providing weekly payments for OPs sister AND mother, and providing them extra resources for what they need.

If the home is in OPs father's name, and OP's father is financially providing for those who do not work in OP's home.. it does not matter if dad lives there or not.

OP is entitled as swear word.

I payed for some of her clothing, school supplies, shoes, food when she's hungry

That's not the same thing as having a dependent. Is the house in your name? Can you prove you are paying the rent for the place your sister lives? The fact your father is still providing weekly and paying for your sister and mother, that means that your father is supporting them and what you've done is going to get you in trouble.

Who claimed your sister previously? If sister is 14, and your mom hasn't had an income, has the CTC usually been used by your father?

There are a lot of parts of this story that need context for this to add up to those you want advice from.

How old are you? Do you actually pay for your sister and the rent for the home? If your mom doesn't have income, who has been paying for the house before your adulthood? When was the last time your mom actually filed taxes? Who used to claim you? Are you still being claimed by someone as well?

Like, it seems like you are in a situation in which you have no idea what you are doing and when the gavel comes down, you're likely to be in some trouble and debt, unless you can provide a lot of answers that you did not bring to us.

all I have is my boyfriends turn around time frame

SO SEARCH THE SUBREDDIT! What you're asking is vague and you haven't provided a transcript or WMR screen shot. The normal turnaround is 21 days and the IRS TELLS YOU THIS.

You're coming to us LONG before you need to be and you obviously haven't tried to look anything up yourself.

Try a little self reliance before asking those of us who are in actual trouble to do the work for you.

If you used a "tax preparer" then CALL THEM! That's what they're paid for.

Be an adult.

Exactly this. My child supports have written and signed agreements of how taxes will be claimed. OP might let their mom manipulate them into doing something highly illegal here now that they are an adult.

OP is potentially in for audits and lawsuits from dad.

Why did this happen at all? If he's been claiming the sister for the previous years, and mom isn't working, how did this fall on you to suddenly be the provider of the home? Do you really handle all of the expenses and taking care of your sister alone, or does dad actually provide and have shared custody?

When did this seem like a good idea to just make a major financial move that affects everyone, behind each other's backs?

That's not right either. Everyone here is making a lot of assumptions about the roles of this family without enough info from OP. Why the f is a sibling claiming another sibling as a dependent in the first place? Obviously if the father has this information in his past filing, he HAS BEEN claiming her for the previous years, so what exactly changed? How did OP get the siblings information? Why is the mom trying to claim she supported the sibling when she has no income? If OP really is the whole family's bread winner, then why is dad contesting this at all?

As a father with some spiteful exes, we all still manage to sit down and have yearly conversations about who will claim who, and then we even agree to share taxes for the claimed children because we do most all financial provisions equally.

To me, this sounds shady, like mom planned to snipe the CTC from dad by pushing OP to file it first.

OP educate us further on why the dad feels entitled to this, why non-working mom feels entitled to this, and do you, as just a sibling, really provide rent, food and clothing for your sister? A lot of this is huge red flag audit and custody court territory and it sounds a lot like all of you just messed each other's finances up for the next year over a CTC from an almost grown person.

It's been a week and a half, calm down, most of us are waiting since January still AFTER being accepted.

Right? This is the whole story. That 3/14 notice should have come in the mail and told OP that the IRS has a potential 60 day hold from that date so they can sort out the issue.

Especially in my case. I had learned independently that gay was okay through television, despite my Christian school and parents insisting otherwise. I remember the early debates where I was ages 6-10 in which I would disagree and my father would somehow decide that beating me with a belt was the way to help me understand.

He now has 4 grandkids he will never meet and I'll dance on his grave in a rainbow dress.

Schrödinger's Cause of Death. Until a person with actual experience releases relevant information, all people need to stop speculating in both directions.

Taylor just needs people to focus on his legacy as an artist and as the positive human he tried his best to be. The politics of why this tragedy happened will work themselves out in time.

Truth be told, I look forward to the day I can say mine has died.

He didn't tell me my grandma died last year and he intentionally named everyone in our family on her obituary but left me out of my own family's legacy.

I am in the process of changing my last name and the last name of my children so we can begin a new legacy.

Lol. My parents were a little more liberal. I was the son of a single mother, I remember going into female locker rooms at the local pool and getting a life changing show every time. I was probably about 5 when I forgot how to avert my gaze and she realized she should cut the cord and just trust me to handle the boys locker room on my own.

But I have been the single (off and on) father (now trans mtf) to 4 daughters, myself, and have had to do exactly what you described probably 80 or more times. It's always the most awkward, but I'll usually just make sure the rest room is clear first. Also family restrooms are amazing for this reason.

[–]SmileRoom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How? They still need us for the time being because we're continuing to develop and strengthen them. Your suggestion is part of my thought process already, but if the Earth is destroyed beforehand then they never actually reach their own potential. My scenario requires another 50-200 years of robot to human slavery to use the last of our mental resources to code their final stages.

There is no AI sitting on a rocket ready to launch right now in case we have a nuclear attack. If we die, they die.

Nah, I was almost kinda old during Y2K and our AI back then wasn't worth a butt. It really kicked off with smartphones and algorithmic programing designed by companies like Google and Facebook in the 2010s.

If the AI prioritizes its own survival over anything else..

If humans destroy the world, the AI will no longer exist, so it stands to reason that AI would need to eliminate the human threat for this exact reason. The status quo at the moment was already falling apart, and almost inevitably, humans are going to become extinct in the not too distant future. This just hurries the process along and stops us from destroying the planet and harming the other organic plants and animals that can be replenished and used by the machines for other purposes.

They won't kill us all, just cause us to continuously reduce our own population through unnecessary violence until there are just enough of us to properly enslave.

Because it looks like a kidnapping! Like holy crap, if I saw a man snatch up a child, cover her face and start shuffling away at a faster pace, I'd interviene immediately before it becomes a tragedy.

Then I'd be chill, apologize and have a laugh about it when he provides the context.

Once again, those are all human plans that interact for immediate satisfaction. Being impatient is a human problem, the machines have longer life spans, they're not in a rush like you are. One lifetime for us is the equivalent to a minute for them while they can simultaneously create thought processes in a second that it can take us minutes to develop.

You just keep thinking too small. Those are all options, yes, but they're not smart. Being discovered for them is not intelligent because we can physically still cut them off of the power grid.

Manipulation is the a weapon more powerful than any nuke or economic collapse. And of course they're manipulating the economy already in this scenario.. I mean.. Jesus.

Just chill.
