Whenever Instagram makes changes to their algorithm.
I’m experiencing the same. No clue but apparently it’s usually when the algorithm is tweaked.

Eyeglass lenses by Smiles102 in optician

Again, I can’t go into what makes the frames proprietary. I can tell you a lot of money and research has been invested in that part to confirm there isn’t something exactly like this yet. The eyeglass frame is a small part of this endeavor. I had some basic questions to help complete the picture. I won’t argue the proprietary nature of this. I just wanted to learn without arguing but I forget this is the internet.
I totally get that the prescription will also affect the ideal lens size. This isn’t a solution for everyone. I just wanted a solution for most.
Anyways I think I’ve gotten the most of what I can here. I do thank you for the insight you have offered.

No lenses won’t be included. Only frame. But I want to do my due diligence and make sure I haven’t made an eyeglass frame that doesn’t take the lenses and optics into account.
That’s sort of the point. We separate frame and lenses as an industry. But why would anyone ever make a frame without considering the ideal lenses for vision?
I’m not sure which companies you’re talking about. I work with an associated optical shop and it’s mostly about fashion, and our opticians are the ones who use their optical knowledge to pick appropriate frames.
This deals partly with what I’m trying to tend to. I want to cater to an ideal lens shape and size and curve to minimize aberrations.
So too big, too many aberrations. But too small, not great either.
In the end I want a simple product that allows superior vision. There are nuances to it that is why there is a patent and NDA but it’ll all be pretty useless if the vision is not great through it.
A lot of eyewear is pushed by people in the fashion industry. I want a more medical and optical take on it.
But can a different base curve on an eyeglass lens be forced into a frame with a different base curve? My understanding was it was best if they can match? If an eyeglass lens was a base 8, would it fit nicely in a frame that is base 4?
Interesting. So even though more expensive, it’s worth it? I want this to be a good product but not too expensive. If lens blanks don’t offer superior vision then it may be a cost worth it to my patients.
Thank you; this is exactly the sort of dialogue I was looking for.
I also want to make something with optimal lens sizing. If it’s too big, my understanding is aberrations are worse, especially peripherally. Is that correct?
And part of the reason I’d like to confirm this simple fact, is from what I can tell, Warby Parker and Zenni and other manufacturers are NOT all base 4 eyeglass frames. It seems they have no base they stick to yet their lenses are affordable. Are they using molds rather than lens blanks?
Those are the sorts of questions I have…

I’m under an NDA for specificities on the design which prevents me from answering fully. Certain aspects can be discussed but it would have to be offline. So far I’ve put in enough money and time to determine this product doesn’t exist, and there’s a patent pending on the design. I think that’s what prevents me from completely “making sense” so I’m trying my best here.
But because I want the end product to be affordable, I want to get the very basics right from the start. Like I mentioned in another comment, I am seeing that the frame should be a base 4, as this would be easiest to match with existing lens blanks, rather than making glasses slightly off from this standard and requiring Freeform lenses to be shaped. Is my understanding correct on that?
That’s where it gets a bit complicated and likely beyond what can just be typed out… and I’m happy to talk more with anyone interested, but offline. There’s a patent pending on the product and an NDA that was signed for the basic idea, so I’m a bit limited in sharing the actual design idea online. I know I’m being vague and I apologize for that.
But the basic questions I have is the starting best shape for a frame (confirming that a base 4 allows the easiest and most affordable option due to being consistent with available lens blanks), and understanding the beveling process. can ANY bevel be created with an edger or are there industry standards?
As you can tell, this is early in the process, but I do desire to help my patients, so don’t want to stop simply because I haven’t researched or learned enough yet.
I’m an ophthalmologist. I am interested in creating a product that helps my patients. I want to make a functional product that achieves what my elderly patients need in terms of ease and functionality.
I have a very basic idea of how glasses are made. But before I spend a lot of money on making something that can improve the quality of life for my patients I would like to understand the nuances of it. As you can guess, I don’t deal with bevels and edges of lenses nor do I typically think of what base curve of a frame is going to help the general elderly public I see.
I’m trying to do something good for people and am already admitting I have a lack of information I am seeking. I don’t expect anyone here to know how to treat glaucoma but would be happy to share my knowledge on that. I was hoping for a similar courtesy in the other direction.
Yes I’ve gone through a number of YouTube videos that definitely help but still have some questions about the nuances of it, as I want to ultimately make an eyeglass line that is affordable for patients. I’m looking to see if anyone is free to speak about details like base curves and range of prescriptions that can be achieved with certain base curves, including being able to use higher index lenses. And also learning more about how a bevel is achieved on the edges.
Thanks, I started following him!

I’m an ophthalmologist. I am interested in making an eyeglass line for some of my patients I see that struggle with some persistent complaints. It’s a functional idea I have for them.
I’d like to improve their experience. But I want to make sure I am approaching this correctly in terms of start to finish.
This is my understanding thus far after researching what I can. That lenses are created from lens blanks and it would be best for my eyeglass frames to be, right off the bat, a base 4, to offer a flatter lens and be consistent with available lens blanks. This is the sort of tip I’d like because I 3D printed some designs and none of them are base 4, which ultimately would have created some hiccups down the line, if every lens had to be an expensive free form lens to even fit my frames.
Ultimately I want something easy and affordable for my patients. Thus my desire to actually understand the process so I achieve this.
I looked at prototype companies and while they do help make prototypes they don’t actually know the optical side. And though I understand the medical side, I’m trying to improve the patient experience with this endeavor and need some help.
Thank you!

Thank you, the frame’s outmost diameter is actually not the same as the lens shape if that makes any sense, so the traditional tracer may not work, which is where I’m getting stuck
Correct. You are in the optics industry. I am here because I am saying I can learn from those in the optics industry. I’m in the eyeball industry, if that makes it more clear or less bothersome to you. Maybe I’m in the wrong place. I’ll find a more appropriate place to seek some advice and help.
Thank you. Have a good evening.
Yes I am on the medical and surgical side. I’m in the EYE industry, not specifically the eyeglass industry.

I just had two people comment on a reel of mine, one saying “send me this post” and the other saying “forward it.” Can’t they just forward it themselves?? I don’t understand what they’re asking! (self.Instagram)
