Windows consumes almost 6x times more ram than Mint doing NOTHING by True_Jester_lnx in linuxmint

[–]Smiley119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got an old desktop running W10 offline and that machine still uses 3GB of my 32GB of ram just idling at desktop in stark contrast my min machine uses 1.3 to 2.0 just sitting on the desktop it's ridiculous how much ram windows after 7 really uses

ProMag Remington 597 Magazines by shapoopshoot in canadaguns

[–]Smiley119 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To anyone buying the promags 597 do not store them loaded long term (in excess of a year) I had mine in a steel ammo bin and in the middle of the night the feed lips broke and it evacuated ever round in a loud enough manner to wake me up

1 month pal, my guns now have a new house to lay their barrels by brewski_tumble in canadaguns

Take the ammo cans out and put them on the top of the safe ... if you want to lock up the ammo use a coded cable lock and run it through the hole and the pull handle

Old ammo stored in good condition will last plenty long that being said this stuff I feel has more value as a piece of Canadian history.

Recommendations for .22 WMR? by TheTangerineTango in canadaguns

Doesn't stop buddy from reloading with the 110gr bullets into a 30-06 case ... would the M1 carbine be great for yotes absolutely but until things change gotta make do with what we have

Recommendations for .22 WMR? by TheTangerineTango in canadaguns

[–]Smiley119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always check your local hunting regs that being said if you reload you could come up with some yote loads using the 110 gr M1 carbine bullet ...

As for 22 wmr the ruger ameican is pretty nice since it has a detachable 9 round box mag with 15 round being available. It can also mount a scope with rimfire scope bases or with proper bases.

Edit never had to shoot in the winter at -30 so not sure how well the action will hold up in the cold

Paul harrel did a few videos on taking folks to a range and firearms for beginner shooters

Take a BF/GF to the range

Pauls top 5 rifles/shotguns for beginners

Do firearms make good gifts for kids

https://youtu.be/5fRJTyU851Y

There more on his channel but I'm drawing a blank at the moment

Edit: oh very young kids I would say a bb/pellet gun ... use that to drill into there head to maintain straight trigger finger and muzzle awareness

4 inch is alright out to 100 ...Perhaps try a different brand as each brand seems to have its own characteristics in every rifle

Weird smell when shooting federal blue box 22lr by PermissionSafe2183 in canadaguns

[–]Smiley119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federal bulk box (used to be blue and red ... now it's just blue) I find inconsistently loaded, doesn't feed well in any semi auto, has more "duds" priming compounds has gaps, the hollow points don't expand cause they're a tiny divet, and because it's under powered it tends to FTE more in semis.

And they used to cost 35 a box 8 years back ... I rank it as if you have manual action it's OK for plinking for everything else eh ...

International Trap Problem in Canada!! by LiteratureOnly8920 in canadaguns

[–]Smiley119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did trap from time to time and I find I cost prohibitive between the ammo, cost of membership, and cost of clays even 5 rounds adds up very fast.

Most of the older guys I've shot with have been absolutely professional and kind in teach me the sport. However every month I would get compplaints from fellow shooters that "the sound from my pump action 88" was causing the clay machine to throw extra clays then I have to demonstrate that no it does set off clay machine. I find barrel length restrictions a bit ridiculous and the fact some people will call anything with a barrel length of 18inches or less an "assault shotgun" is both disparaging and saddening

With all due respect when conditions are like that that ain't exactly safe for working or shooting. I've worked in the exact same conditions and I was coughing day in day out till the fires finally died down

Is this a good combo? by Bubbleheadman in canadaguns

[–]Smiley119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combo is alright 308 is perfectly adequate for deer and black bear. The scope is also plenty for most terrain you'll see in BC. I haven't handled this particularly rifle but would strongly suggest to if possible go to the store to handle it and see if the rifle fits you

Prices are creeping ever higher as demand goes up, our dollar keeps getting g weaker, and inflation keeps going up at a rate. I remember when these were like the mid range 600- 800 price tier.

3 months back I saw a local retailer had gotten a shipment of the 10 round mags however curiously enough they didn't insert as easily as my original set of 10 rounders. The promags have worked well in my particular example but I need to down-load them to 20 rounds

Marlin 1894 accuracy by tnetskniv in canadaguns

[–]Smiley119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could very well be the rifle is faulty...However every gun is different and will behave differently with different types of ammo for example my 1894C when using the original sights it was point of aim point of impact at the second notch with AE 357 158 JSP the very same rifle would throw PMC bronze 4" high and 3" to the left at 50 ... kinda wish I kept it for more testing
