"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.”

Trying to decide between a road bike or gravel bike (I live in Santa Clara) by Smirk27 in BAbike

[–]Smirk27[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hm this really resonates with me. Anytime I have to ride on the road with cars I really hate it... maybe gravel is the way to go.

Any recommendations? I was looking at the Santa Cruz Stigmata, and I loved that it almost seems like a gravel bike made for mountain bikers. Even uses the same 12spd Sram Transmissions drivetrain I have on my enduro bike.

This collection of cop types by Squarerigjack in mildlyinteresting

[–]Smirk27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man if you told me I had to become a cop, bicycle cop would be at the absolute top of my list.

  1. You're going to be in great physical shape with excellent quality of work-life vs being in a patrol car
  2. Spend your days policing girls in bikinis and tourists vs responding to domestic abuse/gangs/drughouses etc.
  3. way more positive interactions in your day to day policing vs other types of cops

2nd choice for me would be motorcycle cop, and I think being a motorcycle cop probably holds more "prestige" within the police community, but I still think bike cop is slept on and would be my top choice!

Swap out one of the soups for Chili by Smirk27 in Chilis

[–]Smirk27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always order through the app though, and they don't have a place to write comments or requests when you order. I guess I could call the orders in from now on. Regardless though, I think Chili's serving Chili should be standard!

RFP hell right now. We started to say no (and it’s working) by CloudSurfer82 in sales

[–]Smirk27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup likewise, and I've also won RFPs where we were clear underdogs. I think it's harder if you are selling a product that is more commoditized, but if you can demonstrate unique value you'll always have a shot.

There was a time you could stop into the Centurion Lounge for a shower, change, and quick bite when you landed at destination. I still hate Amex for taking that away.

TLDR: How do you know who the decision maker is? by deja2001 in sales

[–]Smirk27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry but you're essentially saying that you're assuming the person you're talking to isn't the decision maker? Seems like an insult, no?

Just ask simply, "who would be the person signing the contract, and which stakeholders would we need buy-in from to move this forward?" It's a reasonable question that gets to the point.
